We are Akron, we want our own identity. We do not like OSU being the flagship University in Ohio. We are tired of people in NE Ohio who root for OSU.

And here we are, giving recognition to a guy who has shown just as much (if not more) support for OSU as his hometown University. And we are ok with this.

How about we put our money where our mouth is, Zipsnation?

Finally, we can agree on something.

Some nice former Zips bobble heads suggestions on here.

We could go to other sports, too ... Jason Taylor, Domenik Hixon, Chase Blackburn, Dwight Smith, Teal Bunbury, Darlington Nagbe, Steve Zakuani, Christi Smith, Jenna Compton, Stevi Large ...

All of those are okay if you are a diehard Zips fan. If not, I highly doubt a casual fan would recognize any of those names. And like I said how many of those athletes have multi-million dollar foundations/sponsors to work with? Other than JT, none of them do.

I feel like UA could hand out $100 bills to every fan that attends a Zips game and people would still complain.

"Why is Benjamin Franklin on the bill, he didn't go to Akron?!" "Only $100, wow cheap we deserve at least $200"

I hear you, but I'll be interested to see if there's any lasting effect from the LeBron bobble head. So, 1500 fans get one on Jan 26th. Will those 1500 fans show up at any other games after the 26th? Yes, the season ticket holders will, but how many "Joe Akrons" will start coming consistently because of this one-time giveaway?

Perhaps a better marketing ploy would be to give the bobble heads (or whatever) away with season ticket purchases at all levels.

If they think the bobbleheads will draw more people in to that game, then they need to make the gameday experience, at least for that day, a good one. Close up the end zone seats on the south side where no-one sits anyway and put up the kid bouncer. maybe have people there doing free face painting, etc. Have extra people working the concessions. Maybe even run some concession specials. Give those extra people a reason to want to come back beyond just the basketball (if basketball was all they wanted, they'd be coming already).

Draw more people to the game, by closing off seats?? That doesn't make any sense.

I like this idea for most games (except Can't/OU at least). I know they do this at some D-league games. I hate it as a basketball fan, but it seems like the kids/families really enjoy it!

I think that right there is a reason why we should not do this. These are college sports, not minor leagues. We shouldn't have to rely on cheesy gimmicks like that to get people to the games. Football is one thing, since UA is encouraging fans to show up early and tailgate. But during basketball games it just gets annoying and defeats the purpose of those families attending games.

Should we stop selling food?

I mean we dress someone up like a kangaroo for God's sake!

Maybe try a small scale version at a women's game (sorry ladies) where less people would be offended?

Of your 999 ZNO posts, about 970 of them have been negative toward the Zips in one way or another, so I would expect nothing but negativity in your reply to my post as well. It also seems about as well thought out as most of your posts. If I said I was going to make my house more secure my replacing my poodle with a set of lions and armed guards, I would expect your response to be something along the lines of "Make your house more secure by removing the guard dog? That doesn't make any sense."

However, to play your little game, closing off a few seats would force those 12 people who usually sit there to sit in the other seats, making the gym look more crowded. If people come for the first time and the place looks empty, that's one more reason for them not to come back.

The gist of my post was that if you're going to do something to try to draw in more people to one particular game, consider doing more things at that particular game to improve the gameday experience.

It's more embarrassing to see seats closed off than empty seats. That's UA saying, "well no one is going to sit there, so why bother". The inflatables don't add anything to the game, because people should be going to watch the Zips.

I don't have a problem with closing seats to make it more seem more crowded, it may even create some more directed noise to bother the opponent.

If an NFL team can do it, surely the Zips can do it. The Dolphins needed to do the same this year. Make sure you do it with a graphic like the Jags.

Limited tickets remain

The opportunity to market an item in his image came about only when Coca-Cola and the University of Akron entered a partnership for the beginning of this school year, and marketing dollars from that deal made the purchase of the bobbleheads possible.

...hmm didn't people around here say it was dumb to use Lebron, and that the promotion wouldn't work?

Buffalo is probably the most marketable opponent in the MAC outside of Can't and OU. Add in the fact that that it is a weekend game and Akron is on the 3rd longest win streak in the nation, and I think the team and circumstances (not bobbleheads) are perfect for drawing a good crowd.
