Dr Z
Limited Tickets Remain for Saturday's Men's Basketball Contest vs. Buffalo No NFL this weekend helps. NFL fans start gearing up for college basketball now.
Captain Kangaroo
Buffalo is probably the most marketable opponent in the MAC outside of Can't and OU. Add in the fact that that it is a weekend game and Akron is on the 3rd longest win streak in the nation, and I think the team and circumstances (not bobbleheads) are perfect for drawing a good crowd. I believe the doors open at 5pm? If you are correct, there will be not discernible line at the front door. If you are incorrect, there will be a big line of very cold people going through the turnstiles, then back out the door with a doll. Who could sit in the JAR for 2 hours prior to a game? It's Buffalo night...they should serve beer and wings. Then I'd show up early.

Zip_ME87
...hmm didn't people around here say it was dumb to use Lebron, and that the promotion wouldn't work? Although I posted earlier that it looks like it worked for tomorrow night, I'll still be interested to see if there is any lasting effect. Also, what is the effect of the LeBron bobble heads vs the Zips' current winning streak? Whatever the case, I want our players to know that I show up to watch and support them, not because there's a chance that I can pick up a Lebron bobble head. I wish it was as easy to catch up with our basketball players after a game as it is our soccer players to thank them for their play. I guess I need to join the social media crowd so that I can tell them through twitter or something. I'd just prefer doing so in person and not just at the beginning or end of a season. zippy5
ah, a major sign of a growing fan base. the "I'm a better fan" card has been played. When we start complaining about bandwagon fans taking our seats and driving prices up, we'll have officially made it.

I will say that most of the basketball players seem to appreciate tweets from fans. I usually see Harney, Tree and Abreu re-tweeting a ton of stuff from fans before and after games. But like most athletes I don't expect them to respond to all of them, but I can guarantee they read them!
RowdyZip
After all the complaining and gnashing of teeth over marketing, things have really made an upward turn. The staff is doing an EXCELLENT job of using social media. Get on twitter, you can have regular interactions with the staff/team/marketing department. Those of you who know who I am and/or follow me on twitter will see I regularly exchange ideas and comments with them. They've been fantastic. The fact that this promotion, no matter how controversial, is making news throughout NE Ohio is great news. It couldn't come at a better time with the team on a 10 game streak. Things will get truly epic if they can win the next 3. As ZW says, the future is so bright
ZachTheZip
I'll still be interested to see if there is any lasting effect. If you look at other sports programs, you'll notice that it takes a constant barrage of promotions to get people to come back. A one-off promotion will get people out to a single game, but they won't immediately start comimg back for more games. You need to get them to come out for three or four promotions in a row for games (excepting the "big" games which are a big draw on their own), and that's when they start to make the association between Zips games and having fun. I don't necessarily care if they answer all of the tweets. I just want to ensure they know how much they're appreciated.
The Hip Zip
Its all good. he's gone so get over it please. He helps the Zips in many ways and that is what is important. I'm down with the bobbleheads, especially when it helps to sell out the JAR
zippy5
Went to buy tickets online, I was a little late I know. Can't buy them on ticketmaster - too close to tipoff. But no one is working the ticket office when I called. Does anyone know if there is a separate phone number for the JAR office? Thanks, I have an hour drive and I don't know if I want to risk coming if it's gonna sell out. Anyone hear how many tickets are left? Last I heard there was a "chance for a sellout depending on walk-up crowds." JAR ticket office opens at 5, arena opens at 6.
zippy5
That's what I heard too.. Wonder how close they are. I won't get there till around 6 so we'll see how this goes. I tweeted @zipsmbb so hopefully they get back to me. Took me all week to find a friend to come out with me, or I'd have them already

akzipper
GoZips.com box score had attendance at 5403. UA better be careful with these big crowds, what are they going to do when our 3000 person arena is built?? Would be nice to see that the rest of the season. We have Ohio and Can't, so that's two more 5+. The others are CMU, BG, and Miami and probably won't get that. All depends on how long we can keep the season's "momentum" going. A loss will really hurt "Joe Akron's" excitement over Zips basketball. Also #ZipsGameday has been trending in Cleveland for quite some time... UAZipster0305
I've been critical of KD's approach to the OOC; however, his coaching in switching to the 1-3-1 zone changed the entire game and won it for us. Kudos! That was some MACtion! Tense, but very entertaining game. Zeke got the shaft on the technical foul call.
Dr Z
...coaching in switching to the 1-3-1 zone changed the entire gameAgreed. I have been asking for more zone for a decade. I would say the LBJ night was a success. Nice video before tipoff...more from me tomorrow.
zippy5
Yep, buffalo's offense was based on screen after screen at the perimeter. The 1-3-1 shut them down. Quick thoughts are zeke needs way more touches. Carmelo played very good. Alex played terrible for 35 minutes, terrible defense mostly. But he came up big down the stretch. Really fun game to be at. This is a pretty good analysis. Also a little scary. We switched away from our preferred defense because we had trouble defending with the preferred method, which is never a good thing. And although it worked, don't be surprised if another upcoming opponent watches this film and expose us again. Carmelo appears to be much faster than Alex at chasing down moving guards. K92
So...did everyone get their bobblehead? I entered the JAR at approximately 6:10 and was told we were too late for bobbleheads, making some of the people entering around me very unhappy and very vocal about it. We just kinda accepted the fact that we missed the boat when we heard that we needed to go up to the north end where they still had vouchers left. Sure enough, walked up there, got the voucher & redeemed it for the promo. Hopefully, everyone who was there early and wanted one ended up getting one. This team plays better zone than man to man imo. Give me a 7 footer in the mac and I'm zoning you 80 percent of the time. I said this four years ago too. For those of you that were not there or arrived late, LBJ had a prepared video that played before the game. The video got a nice round of applause. I hope fans let him know, and I hope he expands his support for the progrum.

Strange, if they were too late can't get mad at anyone but themselves.
