zippy5 Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 Wants to come back to Pitt and Chryst said take a hike. Terry better have him on speed dial already. Wants to be close to home (Hopewell) for family reasons. Quote
akzipper Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 Would have to think he'd have better options than Akron. Penn State, Cincy, Ohio State, Maryland, West Virginia... Plenty of big schools reasonably close to the city in western PA. Quote
taxpayer Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 Great high school back; his days at Pitt were average. Don't follow Pitt close enough to say he didn't produce because of their OL deficiencies or his best days were behind him. TB needs to do his homework before dialing direct, this young man has some baggage to be inspected before opening the door to him. I"m not saying he is a bad apple but the last six months have been a circus around RS & Pitt. Quote
Dr Z Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 Ron Cook's opionion about Shell Ron hints that "family responsibilities" may be the reason he wants to be closer to home now. Shell has 16-month-old daughters (according to the article). He originally turned down an offer from Alabama to accept at Pitt!?!? Quote
zippy5 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Report Posted June 25, 2013 Yeah he is a stud. Was a 4 star recruit. Not sure where the above poster got the "average days at Pitt" thought from. He was a freshman last year splitting carries with Ray Graham and still put up some pretty impressive numbers. He has some baggage, but really, what 4 star are we ever going to get without any? Quote

zippy5 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Report Posted June 25, 2013 Your point? He was a freshman getting maybe 35 percent of the carries. The one game that he got a full workload he put up 160 yards against the seventeenth ranked team in college football. Quote
Dr Z Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 Nice article on Shell's family life If being close to his kids is what the issue is, I would think coach Bowden would have some communication to understand the situation. Shell seems too talented not to take a chance on. If there are other issues where it effects team chemistry, then I understand passing. Quote

zipproud Posted June 25, 2013 Report Posted June 25, 2013 The QB that just committed Kincade played in the same conference(Parkway) as Shell. I read an article that they were friends and Shell had some influence on Kincade committing/de-committing to PITT, I understand Kincade has been reaching out to several western PA kids talking up Akron and the staff, including Shell. GO ZIPS Keep the momentum rolling!!!! Quote
GP1 Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Madden says no. I can live with knocking-up a girl...it happens all the time. I can live with any player who smokes a little weed (not saying that happened here)....we've all been to college. I can live with a player who isn't close with his teammates...They are adults and can hang, or not hang, with whomever they want. Not everyone has to be the same. I can't live with a player with a bad work ethic. Working hard should be the expectation and he seems to have trouble with that. Quote
InTheZone Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 He had a nice little exchange with Mark Madden (coke and strippers eh?) and a few others today. I'm gonna go ahead a pass on this cancer cell, I don't care how talented he is. https://twitter.com/RushelShell Quote

I'm a little lost in the story...this Mark Madden guy seems like an equally (or worse) prick. Like it's okay to go after players for being immature, but don't lower youself to a twitter battle with them...just makes you look childish. Quote

Especially in his "home town." Not the first time he has tweeted out his ignorance. Quote
zippy5 Posted June 27, 2013 Author Report Posted June 27, 2013 Yeah pretty much of a d*ck move going after a 19 year old on twitter. Obviously shell could have handled it better, but Madden is a huge (in a couple ways) jerk. Quote

He just announced that his final 3 are Kentucky, WVU and Ohio State, so he wont be coming here unless something drastically changes in the next 2 months. Quote

I doubt Ohio State would consider taking a transfer with any baggage. I assume OSU is on Shell's list, but I doubt Shell is on OSU's list. I predict he'll end up at Cal (Pa.). Maybe not immediately, but eventually. Quote

zippy5 Posted June 28, 2013 Author Report Posted June 28, 2013 Sounds like WVU.. He was on the list of schools that Pitt originally blocked but perhaps since they won't let him back, that list is meaningless. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 He approached Akron. We turned him down. Quote
LZIp Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 He approached Akron. We turned him down. Very interesting....especially since Bowden has taken some transfers with questionable backgrounds..even more surprising because this kid was a top 3 RB coming out of HS. Im not complaining, though. Seems like a straight cancer. Quote

zippy5 Posted June 29, 2013 Author Report Posted June 29, 2013 Wow. I don't doubt Terry, it just surprises me. It's not like he's been in legal trouble like some of Terry's second chance guys. Oh well. Quote

The decision might not have been entirely up to him. Like any transfer, Shell has to qualify for whatever school he transfers to. Or he has to find a school that is able to creatively find a way to get everything squared away. Quote
