Captain Kangaroo
Ugly win, but that's how we roll in 2014. We aren't a sexy fine-tuned machine. Our meat grinder team just needs to find a way to win by one every night. Watching sausage get made is gross, but the end result tastes delicious. Keep fighting Coach Peters! And congrats to Frenchy! Thank you Zips for the #4 seed and for beating K.e.n.t. Someone has to win the tournament. Why not the Zips?
GP1
Thank you Zips for the #4 seed and for beating K.e.n.t. Someone has to win the tournament. Why not the Zips? Why not is right! The Zips needed to get some confidence and momentum this week and they did. There is no reason they can't win two in a row this weekend and win the MAC. I hear a lot about things on the internet "trending". Not sure what that means, but the Zips are trending in the right direction. I fully expect them to win the MAC this week. I didn't see anything initially, other than Q getting grabbed by the Ken+ players. I guess I didn't see it all.

Hilltopper
McAdams made the most of his minutes as did Evans...What exactly would that be? I thought Evans was a no show last night.
johnnyzip84
Big Dog looks like the only guy really capable of providing consistent help for Tree on the boards right now. That's definitely a concern with Jake out. I know he's been disappointing most of the year, but Pat got a few key boards last night. Nick and Pat are both capable of helping out in this area and we'll need them to at the Q.
Dave in Green
No Zips player in last night's game had more rebounds per minute played than Pat. He snagged 5 boards in only 12 minutes of play, including 4 during the critical final 10 minutes of the game. While Tree had an uncharacteristically low 6 rebounds in 32 minutes, Big Dog led the team with 7 boards in his 22 minutes. It's funny, some have commented that Big Dog can't jump, yet he also led the Zips in blocked shots with 3. Big Dog has also been described as slow, yet several times he was out near the circle guarding backcourt players, and was quick enough on his feet to keep those players from driving around him to the bucket. He's fun to watch.

GP1
I'm with DiG and JZ84. Pat had a pretty productive game last night doing a heck of a lot more good for the team than bad. Zips fans shouldn't be look to the two big guys for a large amount of the team's production...that is going to come from elsewhere. We should be looking for solid production with limited mistakes from our two bigs and we got that last night.
zippy5
Big Dog is gonna be really good. It's a shame people hyped him up so much pre-season, the expectations didn't do him any favors.
Quickzips
Big Dog is gonna be really good. It's a shame people hyped him up so much pre-season, the expectations didn't do him any favors. The big problem right now is that he is still a boat anchor in transition D and doesn't move his feet well enough to protect the rim from dribble penetration in the half-court. Can't recognized this and took advantage in the first half when he was on the floor. It was no coincidence that Can't wasn't getting as many clean looks at the rim in the second half where we went more with Pat or the Harney/Tree combo up front instead of Johnson. Frankly I was surprised not to see Kwan at all last night with the way Johnson was getting abused on defense. If he wants to be more than a 15-20 minute a night guy at any point in his career here he has to get the weight under control. 250-260 would be ideal. I'm not sure he can get there, but he's not going to be an effective player at 280-300.As was mentioned previously, the big problem with our rebounding right now is that Jake isn't on the floor. He's one of those guys that you don't really realize all the little things he does to help the team until he is gone. A lot of people look at him as just a spot-up 3 point shooter but he is a lot more than that.
Dave in Green
The people who were hyping Big Dog so much pre-season were nothing more than the first ones to see him in early practices and recognize as others have now come to see that he is gonna be really good. @GoZips correctly predicted that Big Dog would become the starting center as a true freshman before the season was over. No one predicted that he'd be a dominant center as a true freshman, so I'm not sure where any unrealistic expectations came from.

As the weight comes off, the talent will increase. I think his weight looks much better now than when I saw them in Columbia in December, but his physical development is still a key opportunity for improvement. The expectation for him next year should be to be a top center in the MAC. With that means much better physical conditioning and fundamentals. No baby steps for him. Expectations should be for drastic improvement on the off season.

Two of those he reached over that Div II player, Henniger. Right place, right time. Big Dog is gonna be really good. GoZips
Consider this: tonight's officating crew consisting of Wymer, Boroski, and Mayborg for the Indiana @ Michiganis the very same crew that did the Ken+ @ Akron game last night. Oh, and Beilien hates them as much as we do.

LZIp
Great win last night and great win on national tv (finally) at that. Happy with the way we ended this season. Definitely on the right note, especially with McAdams having a few ease in games to get some of his legs back before conference tourney time. We can win it, and I'm not sure why...but I'm glad if we win we will be facing WMU in the semis. Probably going to have to beat OU, which we know is no easy task. skip-zip
I also noticed the Fla.shes were hooking Big Dog's arm locking him up and keeping him from going after loose balls, rebounds, etc...There's a good Beacon pic of Harney having his jersey tugged on under the basket. That's pretty indicative of what people were getting away with during this game. It was a rough game. That's why we didn't take control of the game until late, when we decided to join in on the fun. For what it's worth, we don't need that kind of game on Thursday night. Not when we have to bounce back quickly on Friday to play a well rested team. So, as much as I enjoy watching us play Ken+, I have to think about our longevity over 3 days, and hope we don't play them again this year. The Zips were slow and lazy. That's how K.e.n.t's string bean "bigs" got endless dunks and rebounds. And how K.e.n.t.'s guards got easy, uncontested lay ups. It wasn't until the 10 minute mark that Tree started going strong to the glass. Then he made shots. He was able to get put-backs after misses. He got to the free throw line. We began whipping the indersized K.e.n.t. like we were capable of whipping them.If at any time in his life Mark Henniger is considered too rough for Akron bigs, we should immediately drop the Zips men's basketball program and go watch rifle. Dave in Green
Henniger played only 14 minutes before fouling out, so he wasn't as sneaky as some of his teammates.
