I actually brought my nephew Tuesday that I mentioned in another thread I had a bet with on Bosa/Brown tackles to wear a jersey.  He actually brought money and was going to buy an Akron shirt and I told him to wait to see if he would catch one.  Ironically enough he was one of the few to catch a shirt that made it to the track.  Even after getting it he still wanted to buy one but I told him to hold off and I would get him one at the Walmart on Arlington for 1/3 of the cost of the team shop.  I may be successful in converting him over to a Zips fan!

I remember your story about making him wear the Akron jersey if he lost the bet.

Someone here gave me a copy of this a couple of years ago, and I still had it.  Enjoy!!

 

I remember last year that someone at the U brought it out of the mothballs for a couple of games, and played it about 10 min. before gametime.

Always loved that video thank for sharing it. It should be a staple at the JAR. Too bad everyone in the MAC West wasn't included but at least it got the one Ohio school. Too bad the creator was never fully credited - great job.

You can't be serious.  Really?  Each promotion is as lazy as the other...oh and basically their the same year in year out.  No creativity, No newness.  Just what in the hell are people supposed to get excited for?  Just what in the hell are people going to go to an AKRON game for?  I graduated 4 years ago.  The "I'm a loyal student fan" has definitely worn off.  The "I want to be a loyal alumni" is constantly being tested  the poor decisions of people running my alma mater, and the lack of effort in just about everything they do publicly.

 

But you act like I haven't offered any solutions.  I have.  Many times.  But I can't pretend to know the answers, but I do know the people they should search out.

Oh Teddy, my favorite man of American History.  Truly a unique one.  Segway aside:  look, I don't need to suggest a solution.  I'm in no position of power with the University of Akron, and my influence as student no longer exists.  I have suggested tons of possible solutions, but at the end of the day it's not my job.  It's the people who don't give enough of a damn at the University to figure out.  By saying I'm whining, I take it you're defending their half-assed lazy attempts at marketing?  Like seriously...in that Ad posted in earlier posts, tell me just who in the hell is going to look at that and buy tickets?  Who!?

 

The first step to solving a problem is acknowledging that there is one.  Second step is seeking solutions.  Dear lord, by the mere suggestion that maybe advertising at UA could improve, and it seems incredibly lazy, there are certainly a lot of people here willing to step up and defend it.  Good lord.  Good luck getting new people to come to the toilet bowl called the JAR with that approach.

Thanks, just played it and it was great.  I remember the 1st time they played it at the Jar and people were loving it, especially the Kent part.

I don't have a problem with the promotions.   I got a purple Peters shirt once and the kid behind me caught a TaylorMade mini-basketball once.  I sit on the edge of my seat for the "hippity hop" ball race every game, and has there ever been anything more compelling than the Simon Says game at the half of the BGSU game?:zzz:

I do not think you have to reinvent the wheel.  One of the best things I saw at our football game was having the brass section of the band or the drum line go to different parts of the stadium and perform during the timeouts.  It was entertaining and fun to see the students perform close up.  Is it an unwritten rule that our band can only perform at football games?  Why not utilize our band during B ball and have the drum line or brass section at the game at do a 10 minute performance during half time or go around the jar on the track during a long media timeout.  Our baton twirlers or flag team could also do something at a b ball game and it would not cost the U one cent.   (I also have to mention the worst promotion at our football games was the play of the game.  If we would be losing 40 to 0 and late in the game they had to show a good Akron play of the game late in the 4th quarter to the 400 fans in the stands who did not leave during the blowout.)

I'm entertained by getting to know the players personalities. I would increase the knowledge the fan has about the players on the team. I think the more the fans (and students) know about the players, the more they care about the team, the more they get involved. The Cavs do a nice job on the big screen with some kind of question or small skit that gives you a look into the players personality. You can't just line up a player against the gym wall and ask them where they went to high school. It has to be done professional where the players personality is exhibited. I want to see them laugh, or show some kind of excitement or emotion about a topic/question/thought. I thought @4thFlCreative did a nice job with the intro video, use them again. Once you have the video, show it on the screen at halftime, use it in emails, and the rest of social media. Get fans to care about the players on the team.

This is like the 3rd email I've received about it. The 1st one thanked me for being a STH and told me as a "gift" I'd be getting this mug that I could pick up at the Marshall game. Since then I've received 2 more emails pushing the date back.

K. Maybe they are only doing basketball only subscribers.  I did the all sports alumni deal this year.

I don't think any promotions ... other than cash prizes and lots of quality big ticket giveaways is going to move the needle much. The interest in U of A and MAC athletics is "what it is". It appeals to a very small number of people, and far too many universities over value and over spend on their teams and facilities -- throwing good money after bad.

No.  Alumni Sports deal get ALL of the same benefits, and freebees as other season ticket holders.  I haven't received a thing.  Our season tickets are seasons tickets just like any other account.
