His situation may be getting interesting.

I'd bet what he has happening now was not what he had in mind....being an assistant with a program that's steadily plummeted down to a double-digit seed over the last few years, and can claim only one tournament victory in the last couple of years, which ironically was an overtime win over another former Akron assistant. And now they lose 5 Seniors (3 starters) and one Freshman starter who's certainly going to jump ship to the NBA.

Riding the coattails of a successful, rising head coach in a bigger conference hasn't materialized. If he becomes even more imbedded in Matta's downward spiral, he may just be looking for any D-1 assistant job.

You should have known better than to bring up OSU in a negative light

positive light or negative light has nothing to do with it. I couldn't care less about that honestly. Its the fact that basically anything he posts regarding OSU is blatantly false.

If he were ever to leave, Jeff Boals. But hopefully we won't have to worry about that.

I don't think it'd be Boals. If Rick McFadden didn't go with KD, I bet he'd be the choice. With that said, I don't see KD going anywhere.

Blatantly False?

2013 - #2 Seed

2014 - #6 Seed

2015 - #10 Seed (the lowest in his tenure at the school)

Feel free to dispute this any way you like.

It's amazing, isn't it? Shame on me for utilizing a Zips forum to paint a picture of Jeff's current situation at his current employer. But of course, because it didn't speak highly of the recent success of the almighty Suckeyes, all it took was one Honk to hijack the thread into excuses for Ohio State instead of a discussion about AKRON'S coaching situation.

You're the one who chose to push your weird agenda against OSU and their recent history in a thread that has nothing to do with either of them.

You said they have been a double digit seed the past few seasons- false. You said the program is in a downward spiral, when there is no evidence to suggest it, besides lower seeding which really means nothing (just ask Mich St.)

To keep this thread on topic, I'll worry about Coach D leaving when there is something more than a few random twitter accounts throwing them on their list of 10 candidates.

Who cares if details in his info was wrong? This isn't the OSU board. They don't really matter here until people jump in to defend them. It doesn't need to be corrected. The general statement is correct.

Boals is a part of a program that isn't as good as it looked like it would be when he joined it. Or at least that's the feeling. Perception is reality.

Bolded part is a fair statement. As for the first part, I care, and so should everyone else. Everyone should value quality discussion. I shouldn't be able to say "our football program is better than NIU" and have it blindly passed off as fact just because this is an Akron board. It really has nothing to do with OSU, thats just the most common example. Should mistakes in my debate with Dave about Depaul not being an attractive program be ignored just because this is an Akron board and not a Depaul board? BUt how dare I correct anything that is wrong about OSU right? I'm clearly some OSU honk who graduated from UA, donates to UA, attends as many UA athletic events as I can and spends all of my time on Akron board just for shits and giggles.

OK, I'll bite. If the downward slide in NCAA tournament seeding I listed in Post #30 "means nothing", as you suggest, then try this instead.....

Final RPI

2013 - #9

2014 - #25

2015 - #40

So, when you respond again to refute these additional facts about Jeff Boals' current employer, please remind us again that you are simply just "trying to keep this on topic" and that I have some "weird agenda" as you make your 100th post on an AKRON FORUM in defense of a competing school.

Never let a mistake or two get in the way of a strong opinion.

Dambrot has been listed by a few outlets as a VCU candidate (speculation).

I'm not reading anything like that, I see Mike Rhodes and Will Wade. I also read Ballard.

AD, McLaughlin said he wants someone who will “continue our success. I think style of play is important for our student-athletes. They enjoy the style of play we have. I think it’s important we take that into consideration with a new coach. Our fans, too, love how we play now. Source.

I can't remember where I saw it but I do know PrepScouting.com listed him. I think just speculation though.

I am sorry to see Bobby H leave Buffalo and the MAC. I thought he did a good job elevating Buffalo in the MAC. The MAC needs good coaches as much as good players. I hope Buffalo makes a good hire and keeps their program relevant.

I'm surprised that some of KD's assistants haven't moved on to becoming head coach or an assistant at a higher D1 program with the long term success of the KD era.

There is a guy named Shaka Smart who seems to be doing pretty well.

Shaka Smart, head coach, Texas

Lamont Paris, assistant coach, Wisconsin

Jeff Boals, assistant coach, The Ohio State

Pretty fair coaching tree.

I can't particularly get thrilled when our former assistant coaches are currently just assisting at another D-1 program. I guess I just wish we could brag that an assistant job at a highly successful Top-100 D-1 program like ours would lead to head coaching jobs.

I hope Jeff can make another jump soon. Like I said previously, getting out of OSwho now might be his best move. A couple of years ago, before the slide, would have certainly been better.

DIG - I'm aware of Mr. Smart, Mr. Boals and Mr. Paris. Mr. Paris was the most recent assistant to leave KD and I believe that's 4 or 5 years ago. Rick McFadden and Terry Wiegand have been around about 10 years and Charles Thomas for five years. Steve McNeese just completed his first year. I was simply stating my surprise that one of KD's top assistants haven't decided to seek another assistant's or head coaching position with the success they've enjoyed.

I think Nick Dials (Toledo) and Brian Walsh (Dayton) are now assistants?

Granted they were Zips Grad Assistants, but they seem to be doing well.

Taxpayer, I get it now that you were talking about Zips current assistants and not those who've already moved on to other schools. I don't know what aspirations the current assistants have. Generally speaking, not all assistant coaches actively pursue head coaching positions. Some are satisfied being an assistant to a head coach who they respect.

If so, I'd rather have more aspirational assistants on staff.
