Zips at Texas-Arlington — NIT Round 2 (Mon 8 pm)

And for the planners out there, if we win we would play again on Wednesday the 22nd.  Either at Colorado St. or at home against Cal State Bakersfield.  The Colorado St/CSB game tips off Monday night at 11pm eastern.  If CSB wins they are going to have to catch a quick flight Tuesday morning (hopefully to Akron).

If Cal-Bakersfield wins, the game would be at Akron.

If Colorado State wins, we'll be flying from Texas to Ft. Collins, CO for a road game.

I am talking about the tweet below saying we will be playing UTA in Akron.

Are we certain the third round game would be Wednesday?  I have to leave town for few days on Thursday.  Would be my luck to miss a home game.

Yes games are Tuesday and Wednesday.  We would be Wednesday since we play Monday.  The people playing Saturday/Sunday get the Tuesday games.

I watched part of the UTA/ BYU game last night. UTA is a very good shooting team, but they do not have much of an inside game, nor do they defend well inside. We won't win if it becomes a shooting contest. Need to play tough defense on the outside, especially around the three point line. Another chance for Big Dog to shine.

Looked at the UTA roster and stats.   Bigs are a 7-1 guy, two 6-9's and two 6-8's.  Leading scorer is Sun Belt Conference POY 6-9 junior forward Kevin Hervey, averaging 17.2 ppg and 8.6 rpg.  Shoots quite a few threes, a bag man with range similar to Kwan.  They were 13-0 at home this year.  Averaged 78.1 points per game, gave up 69.6.

One seeding spot away from playing a home game in the 2nd round.  That sucks. I think that would be great for Akron to get an NIT game in Rhodes Arena.

Actually, I'm not pissed at all that UT-Arlington was seeded higher that us, but some of the others on our side were treated quite generously, including Houston.  And the results have shown it.

Houston is a good team. 12-6 in the AAC is nothing to scoff at. It's nice to see we could compete in a conference like that. So while I don't think that was a great example, I do agree that the smaller schools do generally get the shaft. Maybe Bakersfield will win and we'll get a home game with a trip to MSG on the line?

Postgame Quotes from UTA Head Coach Scott Cross last night. (I can't find any post game presser from KD)

Can you talk about the performance of Jorge Bilbao, who has been ill?
"At shootaround today, Jorge couldn't even stand up. He had so much abdominal pain. He had to go to the doctor and get three bags of IV for dehydration. He is the toughest player I've ever coached."

How important is hosting the second round to the program
"We know we are going to have another big challenge in Akron, another very good basketball team. To have a home game in postseason play is a special opportunity for our guys.."

Replay of UTA / BYU on ESPN3

Anybody want to take a stab at guessing the line for the Zips / UTA game?

Those Top 5 Seeds on our side were 53,54,62,65, and 66 in RPI.  They had the justification to sort our side much differently, if they had chosen to do so.  In fact, I think Arlington should have the biggest bitch of all sitting at #45.  But, who would give them a justifiably higher seed with "names" like Cal, Houston and BYU in there?
