zippy5 Posted February 3, 2021 Report Posted February 3, 2021 I could be wrong but I think the ones that the Zips twitter is posting about would be the scholarship players because I don't believe the walk ons sign NLIs Quote
Blue & Gold Posted February 4, 2021 Author Report Posted February 4, 2021 Initial post updated as best as I could. Quote
LZIp Posted February 4, 2021 Report Posted February 4, 2021 I sincerely hope some of those players are not on scholly. For some reason I thought we announced walk-ons last year as well on late signing day. If only we had a beat writer to provide some clarity. Quote

Otherwise (by my count) of our 24 scholarship recruits, 7 are WR's. I'm sure the Akron Beacon Journal will clarify the issue and give us interesting human interest articles on all our new signees.? 72 Roo Posted February 4, 2021 Report Posted February 4, 2021 He looked like an intriguing project. Does anyone out there have a good handle on exactly how good this young man was? I hate to lose someone who was 2 time all-state and came from a high school that expected to dominate. Quote
John Ward Posted February 4, 2021 Report Posted February 4, 2021 Im guessing they all PWOs. Arth has to be saving monies for some transfers and if the PWOs work hard they will earn money. Quote

Fellows, if a young man is 6’9 330lbs and can move a little,P5 schools line up. Doesn’t look like this is happening here so keep that in mind. Quote

LZIp Posted February 4, 2021 Report Posted February 4, 2021 A lot of chatter here about using the transfer portal more to finish out the class and maybe it should have been utilized more in past years, and I don't necessarily disagree. Jake Spatival, who I would have liked to replace Bowden actually, has taken the total opposite approach. He brought in 20 transfers in his 2020 recruiting class and has yet (even after late signing day) to sign a high school kid in the 2021 class. https://old.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/lc3bhu/at_the_end_of_national_signing_day_the_texas/ That 2020 class full of players who could "contribute right away" got him to a record of 2-10. Put me on record as wanting us to finish out of class with mostly transfers expected to play right away, but Texas State's results thus far are a data point against going all in on the portal. 2 Quote
72 Roo Posted February 4, 2021 Report Posted February 4, 2021 I think we are all with you in that a balance has to be struck. Right now we need talent that can improve the team and win a few. We are not getting that with incoming freshmen, but have a chance within the transfer portal. After experiencing a 0-12 season Jake's 2-10 season makes me jealous. Never thought I'd say that! Geesh! 1 Quote

If he couldn't move, that should have been identified during the recruiting process or is the strength and conditioning program so deficient, that they couldn't make a dent? The Browns got rid of Zach Bammer because he was overweight. Mike Tomlin gave Banner another chance, but told him he had to lose weight and he did. He has become an impact player on their "jumbo" package. Looking forward to seeing him come back from his injury next season. Quote

Blue & Gold Posted February 4, 2021 Author Report Posted February 4, 2021 This guy was not on our (ZN.o's) radar. 6-1, 210 LB 1 Quote
