Tyrrell is a fantastic HS coach.  As a Hoban alumni, I am very impressed with what he has been able to accomplish there.

However, I don't agree with putting a HS coach directly into a Div 1 HC job.  He would probably be a fantastic coordinator, an NCAA D2 coach, or an FCS coach for a couple of years.  Once he shows what he can do at the collegiate level, be the first in line to hire him for the HC job.

I agree. Since Arth was an utter failure, In think a HS coach, no matter how successful, is a HUGE risk. I don't see Guthrie, who knew the pressure coming into the job of making the football program successful, would go this route.

No doubt this contributed to Guthrie not waiting till the end of the season to relieve Arth.

Ed Orgeron is probably on his way to Akron right now. Lol

I never thought I would see part of a high school coach’s resume to get an FBS job be the attendance for an annual neutral site game between rivals, but here we are. 2021 is strange.

Recruiting coordinator.  That's clearly his strength.

I remember people complaining with Groce that we were getting another school's reject.  YSU's reject?

I get the argument of riding out Arth. The trajectory is probably trending upward.

It certainly could not have trended downward.

We saw another Loss in front of 7,000 fans

Does that include the TV audience?  That's the only way I could see the fans totaling 7000.

So where has the traditional route got us?

Answer: Here

So ta hell with the same ol take a risk on a random college assist coach

I recall some guy (think his first name was Gerry) who was a fantastic HS coach in Cincinnati and was hired as HC at Notre Dame where he was a miserable failure.

Turns out a lot of success at the HS level may have been due to the fact that he could recruit players while most of his counterparts could not.

If I recall, who hired him afterwards?

There was some other Guy name Paul Brown who left coaching HC and lead some school in Columbus their 1st national championship

So after 35 years of losing at the FBS level we think a coach can come in here and win.  The most wins ever was ONE season with 8 wins.  One bowl win in 35 years. Most of those 35 years which I watched were losing seasons.  Outside of Christ himself not sure who can be a miracle worker.   Let us prayer for that miracle worker!! GO ZIPS

It is really saying something for someone who has local interest and really cares about the program to be fired after 3 years in a program that has not had much success in a long time.  Who pushed for the change?  President?  AD?  Major donors?

I would I think major donors at least to a large extent since it’s been reported they are covering the buyout…

and to be clear really after 2.25 ish years considering the shortened season last year and the move being made mid season.
