Ouch. 4 MAC teams in the final 32, and Akron not one of them.

Tremendous credit to BG for going on the road to beat highly ranked Louisville

Impressive win by Georgia State at Charlotte

Akron showed tonight that it is not a top team in the MAC.

Nonsense. Akron outshot SC 17-3, 4-3 OG, 9-0 corner kicks, all while fouling less, 6-14.

Soccer is a cruel game.  A team can dominate but fail to capitalize.  One bad touch can be the difference between winning and losing.  This team simply did NOT have it this year.  Time to regroup and squeeze every last dime out of that recruiting budget.

I know the colors are blue and gold. But that kit is yellow. Brighter yellow than thr Force or the Crew.😜

Sorry, but the kit is gold...not yellow. Definitely not brighter yellow than either the Force or the Crew...not even close to either of those.

This was a disappointing year.  We started off so well at the beginning - the Pitt game, the crowd and atmosphere at the Indiana game but then the Ohio State game happened and I don’t think Akron was ever the same.  The only game I thought that they played well after that was vs Penn State but that was only in the first 30 minutes.   Bowling Green was a blowout but we finished every chance we had in that game.  Starting with the Michigan game it just seemed like the fire and excitement from the beginning of the year had evaporated.  Losing vs NIU was excused because they were good but losing vs Western Michigan when the MAC tourney was on the line should have given pause. Tonight’s game was a microcosm of the entire season - start well (we started the season so well) but then poor execution and a mental mistake leads to a goal for SC (Ohio State / WMU) We fight back but can’t finish and they mercifully end the game.  Thanks to our seniors for their efforts but to be honest - this might be one of the most disappointing senior classes ever.  Championship Game as freshman and not even a win in the NCAA tourney after that.  If you told me that when Akron was destroying MSU 5-1 in the national semifinal that they wouldn’t win another tourney game in those freshman at the time careers I would have told you that you were crazy.   But here we are.

terrible soccer for the most part, with a few exceptions, in their last 3 contests. Well dominating possession time , o,k , but finishing no. The BG game at home was beautiful finishing. Maybe the clue on how this could happen was the W. Mich match. They score, we tie, they score, we tie, until they bitter O.T. loss up there. Did the fact that the Zips got in despite not making their own tournament cause them to just assume that if they put in a 'good' effort it would result in a win???. THIS THE NCAA TOURNAMENT - ASSUME NOTHING. ASK THE LOUISVILLE CARDINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any guess on what Jared will say???

“I thought we played well,” Embick said. “I know when you lose sometimes you want to look at something, but you can’t fault anything. The effort was there, the game plan was there. We just didn’t win. We gave up two goals on their only two chances. It hurts, but in terms of the game I thought we really played well tonight.”

Interesting comment from Santa Clara coach......on the tendencies of the zips

“We learned how to defend in and around the box, which is where Akron is really good,” Broncos coach Cameron Rast said. “Eleven of their last 13 goals have come from crosses from their wide channel, putting balls in the middle where they punch it in.

my comments.....In recruiting this year, the zips need to find a speedy, good passing midfielder (I know, those are hard to find).....who can work the ball up the middle of the field....and make good passes into the box....from the middle of the field....

Toward the end of the year, Malik Henry was working very hard to learn to cut into the middle of the field.....to try to score goals himself.....and to make good passes from the midfield...

Malik Henry had an incredible first year for the zips.  He has a great burst of speed and made great passes from the wide channel.

But, the zips need to be multi dimensional and make progress from the center of the field
