  • Dr Z changed the title to Joe Moorhead Officially Hired as Head Football Coach

As a Mississippi State alumnus, I have a lot of respect for Joe Moorhead as a man, doubt if there's a better one out there.  Where he fell short at State was his lack of player discipline.  He has a very good offensive mind as shown by his performance at Penn State as well as Oregon.  He tried too hard to instill his offense at State without the players to execute it.  Akron has hired a good man and possibly a good HC if he can find a hit man to enforce the disciplinary side of things. Congrats and good luck, Joe.

Welcome, @Boondog! Aside from the lack of player discipline, what type of player did he recruit? Did he have the athletes/size to compete in the SEC? Or did he have more of the slender-frame guys like he had at Oregon?

I haven't contributed to this board for several years-- was just too turned off by the football program (and Scarborough etc etc).  But, I am so excited that they pulled the trigger on Moorehead, an incredibly talented, deeply experience coach who actually wants to be here. I can only imagine where we'd be if they had hired him years ago, but that's all water under the bridge.  He will get excellent assistants and be a magnet for offensive talent.

I'd like to suggest, as a guy in LA, that the Zips do an annual road trip to play a Pac-12 team since he will know all about them.  BG is playing UCLA next year which really pisses me off...

Thrilled its officially official. Looking forward to seeing the staff members and start to hear some news on the recruiting trail. BTW...could Bubba be coming back? Really thought he was done for a multitude of reasons, including what some have posted on this board.

I did as well on Weds. Just figured he would move on with life considering he's been here for 5 years already (maybe even 6 as I vaguely recall him grey-shirting), or at the least look to go somewhere else as his career here has been pretty miserable. Regardless, happy to welcome him back for another year if he chooses. We need all the talent we can get.
