Towards the end there is a great discussion on when to stop asking. Too many young people in the workforce go from asking to complaining to malcontent. At some point a person can't become noise within an organization or everyone else will do what they always do with noise and tune it out. morris buttermaker
I may have missed this -- so sorry if I did, but will Akron offer 105 FB scholarships next yr... and will every team in the MAC?... even so, there are many more scholarship opportunities available on the open market before a player would settle on a MAC offer, or in particular Akron... I can't see FB being sustainable at the FBS level for Akron

I can't see FB being sustainable at the FBS level for Akron No for Akron. And no for the SEC. I’m not sure if other conferences have made a final decision. MAC and SEC will still be at the 85 scholarship limit. It’s just a 105 roster cap.

They used him as the promo pic for the Indiana game. From what I've read on X, he tore his Achilles today in practice and is done for the season. What a jinx. Anyone not rooting for Indiana today? Go Hoosiers.

Let'sGoZips94
Not sure if anyone watching caught this, but Indiana has a DL transfer from Kent State (West is his name I think). The announcers said he has to work extremely hard academically to either become eligible or get into IU. Joke of a school we have to our east. Thank goodness we are up wind from them. catdaddyp
I’m not convinced Indiana is deserving of a CFP spot. They’ve beaten one school with a winning record - Washington. Maybe 3 if Michigan and Nebraska win today. Talk about the stars aligning with a cakewalk schedule.

Georgia looking like poop vs UMass helps them. If a school beats everyone on their schedule except the #2 team in the country, they should be in. Can't help the rankings of the others on your schedule. Edited November 23 by Let'sGoZips94

Agreed can only beat the teams on your schedule. However, if strength of schedule doesn’t matter, chances are the best teams aren’t actually getting in. Have to wonder what record almost every team in the SEC (not named Miss. State or Auburn) would be if they played Indiana’s schedule. It is a nice speculative conversation, but it doesn't serve the system. Boise State should arguably be ahead of every team except Oregon and Ohio State. 11-1 should be rewarded, not punished. Would hate to see FSU 2.0.

The most to ever watch a MAC weeknight game is 465,000. We are destroying our league so at tops one tenth of one percent of Americans can watch the game? This isn't exposure, it's insanity.

Slam_Hilliard22
Weeknight Games are great when its a bad matchuo but rivalries should always be weekend games Its not that hard to figure out

exit322
What we don't know from the article is how much more cash comes to the MAC teams from the weeknight games. It definitely doesn't help attendance at all for any of the schools (same issue in CUSA in October). But does the TV cash trump the attendance loss? I don't think it's really changed at all as a result of this arrangement. This is purely a dollars question I posed...does this give more to make up for the loss of ticket (and related) sales on Saturdays? As I asked, I should answer. I don't think it gives enough more to make up for those other losses.

clarkwgriswold
There's certainly damage caused to the morale and enthusiasm of each school's fan by the weeknight games. Also, the reality is that until and unless the MAC starts playing a higher quality of football the basic football fan on a national scale isn't going to watch regardless of when it's on. ClevelandZip
Judging by how little our annual payouts from the MAC are, I’d say whatever money ESPN does rake in from these weekday games, they largely keep.
GP1
10 hours ago, zippy5 said: Do you think the quality of the MAC has increased since this arrangement started? Great question. The answer is absolutely not. In no way shape or form is it better. The money is not helpful because the athletic departments are more broke than ever. If former athletic directors of mac schools had any self awareness, they would apologize to their former employers for the buffalo run they sent their schools on. The players are not as good. Where are players like Leftwich, Pennington, Frye, Blackburn, Roethlisberger, Hixon, Moss, etc? People say MACtion is a great brand. No, it is the brand of empty stadiums, ruined rivalry games, disinterested announcers and low quality play. The MAC is doing less than ever to make their schools a benefit to the athletes students alumni fans and general community around their schools. It's really disgraceful what has happened to the MAC.
