Figured we could track the college football offseason here.

First big domino just fell. Luke Fickell to Wisconsin.

Cincinnati will be ripe for picking. One of their WRs, Tyler Scott, is from Norton.

Tulane’s Willie Fritz headed to Georgia Tech.

Great hire!  He won at school known for brains. Same thing at Tech, but in a significantly more attractive city.

I was expecting this to come next year. Wow.

People see the record and the bowl games, but I completely understand this move. WMU has a ton of resources post-Fleck and just recently got a massive anonymous donation of tens of millions for athletics, hundreds of millions for the rest of the university. Their boosters were going to damn near match Fleck's salary at Minnesota! But even with tremendously talented teams the last 6 seasons, they've never even made it to Detroit. They went 4-4 in the west in 2021 with the most talented offense in the league, and nearly lost to Oscar Arth's Akron Zips, who put up 40 in the game. This year, the starting QB at the beginning of the year threw like 6 picks against Pitt, and they couldn't overcome not having a QB. Lester did okay, and is a fantastic guy, but it was time to move on.

Agreed about the hire. I watched Tulane struggle for 8 years first hand. If you can win at Tulane, it’s likely you can win anywhere.

We could / could we hope to poach some decommits from WMU / Cincinnati / FAU (?)

Add Stanford, Arizona State, Colorado, and Wisconsin to this list given the PAC12 & Big 52 (Big Ten) experience/connections on this staff.

Given our past six years, it would be.

I think you mean our last 4 decades. You have to go back to Dennison to find the last Akron coach who left the program with a winning tenure. His last season was 1985...

Hugh Freeze to Auburn.

That cheer you heard came from a combination of the local Auburn escort business community and the NCAA investigations office employees who have been looking for work to do.

Attached is a visual representation of Akron’s all-time record for football since 1973. The Zips were comfortably >.500 all-time, but have plummeted quite a bit. They’ve still won about 10% more than Kent has all-time, which is hilarious.

Liberty, UNLV, Texas State...

I'm assuming it will be very hard to get those with P5 offers.

Doesn't seem like there will be any coaching movement within the MAC. Wonder when the last time that happened?

Candle and Linguist mentioned as candidates for Cinci.

I don’t think either are the right guy, but if that’s the direction they want to go, more power to them!

Urban Meyer is atop their wishlist.

Other potential candidates are:

Tom Herman

Alex Golesh

Jesse Minter

Mike Denbrock

Mike Tressel

Brian Hartline

Kerry Coombs

Agreed. Hard to envision either one of those hires happening, but anything is possible.

Does anyone else feel like Tom Herman probably falls in the good OC but not a HC after many chances?
