I can't imagine the buyout is millions? Probably $700k would do it. We could "buy" YSU for 250k as a replacement, and have a fun "local" home game with a good chance of a "W."

I don't mind Kentucky fans coming up to Akron. They know how to tailgate, and it would make for a fun game day environment. Better than the typical morgue that InfoCision has been since its inception.

I don't see them doing another FCS in addition to the mighty Colgate Toothpastes.  I know there's a site out there that lists open dates for FBS/FCS.  I know we're purely speculating UK will try to get out of the game, but would be curious to know who would be a potential replacement.

Also, not disagreeing on YSU.  Would much rather see them than Colgate.

I guess it would depend on how much UK wanted out of it, assuming they do/would. You’re right, $2 mil (or more) is pushing it, but I would love to see Akron set the line. $700k-$1 mil is more likely. Financially, it probably makes sense for UK to buyout this game and replace it with a home game.

UK fans will travel for sure, but its a bit demoralizing when the opponent’s fans are able to drown out the home fans. As far as it being a game day environment and less morgue like, it very well could be the highest attendance of the year depending how UK is projected for the 2024 season. That being said, I’d love to be proved wrong and see Zips fans come out in droves against any team on the schedule.

Agreed! Even if it were mainly UK fans, would be cool to see the place packed and loud (loud when they score a lot at least lol). Plus, a good SEC team in town?? I'm for it!

The money is irrelevant to a school like UK.  Anything below $1.5 million is a drop in the bucket. They have SEC Network money and everything that goes along with it. If they want out and have a better option (we can only hope), they could scratch a check tomorrow.

On a side note, Mrs. GP1, the luckiest woman in the world, and I went to the Music City Bowl years ago and Kentucky played Clemson. Kentucky fans came in force...and I mean in FORCE. They started early and finished late. It was the first bowl game of the day and I'm pretty certain was on a Saturday. There were reports the next day that there were bars on Broadway (the main bar street in Nashville) that ran out of beer that night.

Take heart that 2024 and 2025 are full of absolutely winnable P5 road games, assuming we continue to improve as a program.

I'm not saying this is the dumbest post ever on ZipsNation; it might not even be in the top three, but I am saying your definition of "full" and mine must be dramatically different.

That's crazy. Whoever was playing in Nashville must have had some wild fans.

Agreed.  It would be similar to the Marshall game.  Lots of green in the stadium that day but good fans that know football.

Better road trip - Kentucky or Indiana?

Tough. I'd go with neither. Would probably go to KY just to be able to stay in an improved Cincinnati. A couple beers at Mt. Adams Bar and Grill is a treat.  However, Indiana provides the opportunity to stay in Indianapolis and eat at St. Elmo's.

Finished up the conference preview with predictions. I still need to complete Morgan State, Kentucky, and Indiana. That being said I will predict beating Morgan State with losses to UK and Indiana. Overall record prediction is 7-5 and 6-2 conference. I will say the conference prediction may be a little too aggressive and we’ll probably be more like 5-3, but that’s just how it came out when I reviewed each team game by game. If it’s 5-3 conference, that’d be 6-6 Overall. I think Temple is a definite swing game and the last 3 games on our schedule could also go either way.

Some of the game times have been announced. @Indiana is still TBA but weddingitis has hit me for Sep. 23. Say a prayer for an evening game (but I'm not holding my breath)..

Phone ➡️ Horizontal ➡️ Leaning on Centerpiece or Glass ➡️ Watch the Game

Unless it's your own wedding, then...

Phone ➡️ Best Man sitting next to you ➡️ Angled towards you behind centerpiece or glass ➡️ Occasional glances with more frequent updates from the Best Man
