clarkwgriswold
To stir up some conversation, as the 2023-24 regular season winds down, who are the members of your 23-24 All-MAC Team? Give us your first team, POY and COY. As a reminder the preseason team was: First Team Ali Ali, Guard, Akron, Sr. Enrique Freeman, Forward, Akron, Sr. Chris Payton, Forward, Kent State, Grad. Jaylin Hunter, Guard, Ohio, Sr. Dante Maddox Jr., Guard, Toledo, Jr. Second Team Tyson Acuff, Guard, Eastern Michigan, Jr. Jalen Sullinger, Guard, Kent State, Jr. Anderson Mirambeaux, Center, Miami, Sr. David Coit, Guard, Northern Illinois, Jr. AJ Brown, Guard, Ohio, So. From what I have seen so far, my All-MAC team would be: Enrique Freeman- Akron Basheer Jihad- Ball State Tyson Acuff- Eastern Michigan Marcus Hill- Bowling Green Jaylin Hunter- OU POY- Freeman COY- Groce

I will say Freeman should be a runaway favorite for MAC POY. Groce should won COY, but I could see Barbee winning it instead. CMU was projected to finish dead last in the MAC, but are currently in 3rd. Even though teams 3-12 all suck I can still see voters giving it to Barbee for "overachieving". Not that I would agree with it. Edited February 25, 2024 by kreed5120
LoyalZIP
Freeman as POY and Barbee as COY are both locks. First team, Freeman and Hill are locks. Someone from Toledo will make it, likely Moss. Ali has a decent chance too. I’d also take Jihad on first team. Considering how the league has played, it’s far from a slam dunk like it typically is to come up with these teams.
Let'sGoZips94
Tribble is a lock for 2nd Team IMO. Ali Ali as well, unless someone sneaks him onto the 1st Team. Freeman POY is the lock of the century. Groce does not deserve COY this year. CMU's coach and BUGS' coach deserve it.
NWAkron
POY: Freeman COY: depends on these last few games. If CMU loses them all, Groce moves back into that spot. Simon at BG has improved the team but not rock star this year. First Team: Freeman, Marcus Hill, Maddox, Agee, Hunter?

Raheem Moss is Toledo's best sll-around player, should be 1st team all star.

He's obviously played himself out of it.

clarkwgriswold
Any more thoughts on this now that we've seen everyone? From what I saw, Jihad from Ball State was the second best player in the league. I'd also move Coit into first team consideration. The late season Zips meltdown takes Grice out of the COY discussion. RoyalBlu
Freeman, Moss, Hunter, Hill, PG at CMU COY-- CMU What a sad state across the board ... (Note, EMU played its best BB w/o the MAC's leading scorer ... Kent is a loser for first time in over 20 years ... injuries impacted a lot of teams this season ... but still) Roster development left a lot to be desired at a lot of places, including Akron ... although THE PORTAL had a lot to do with much of it. kreed5120
COY I might actually give to coach K since he won the MAC in what was a rebuilding year. Overall though nobody is all that deserving.

He led a team he didn't recruit to the Elite 8 two decades ago.
Illini Zip
I saw Coit ended up Third Team? I think he’s better than that? Edited March 15, 2024 by Illini Zip

Did Miami, NIU, and Akron okay arrow roulette for Hunter, Coit, and Thornton? The coach to stay the longest got Coit, then Hunter, then Thornton? Groce is a big time family man, so that would make sense that he dipped out early and we got Thornton. Steele probably said, "We aren't close to winning the MAC but Hunter will help prevent me from getting fired." NIU's coach said, "F it. I'm already coaching basketball in DeKalb. An arrow through my foot won't make life any worse."
