Good catch, corrected as I was not referring to 'you.' I don't believe they ended up with their 3rd or 4th candidate. My primary point was these searches involve a lot of smoke, that said it could very well be the case it was not their first choice. I do agree with you, no matter who they ended up with, it will be a monumental task.

Now it's officially in the 'poorly' state. Looks like they lost Magpayo! I will always try to be objective above anything else ;)

Sounds like the UCR coach is not necessarily taking the Fordham job.

He was their first choice all along. Sendy wanted the job in a bad way but had too much baggage. In more ways than you can imagine. Martelli? Why would they hire a guy that the coach they just fired beat in the regular season?

Amazing. Too crappy of a person for Guthrie but Kent was happy to double his salary. 😂

And, there it is. Per my prior post: The most interesting twist, I think if folks close to UA MBB insiders do a little digging you may learn that Sendy wasn't the only local MAC coach who used being active in the Fordham pool to put pressure on administration to get a stronger commitment for his program. Smart, and possibly even orchestrated between friends.

The friends I’m referring to Groce, Wentz and Guthrie. They kept it all quiet intentionally. They aren’t going to be out touting anything that will spook the players/recruits or for other programs to feed off of like Kent. We all know Akron = strategic. Kent = well ?  So the only point I would disagree on with Hilltopper is UCR was not exactly the first choice but likely was second. Groce was first before a pool was even established, discussions were had and it allowed Groce to put even more pressure on an administration with no leader in place right now after a historic season.

So did Guthrie let Groce know a while ago that it was predetermined he was firing the Fordham coach? I'm pretty sure this "quiet extension" occurred months ago.

Outside of Sullinger & VCD, they were not very good. Gillespie had his moments outside of punching teammates in the face, and Medley showed flashes, but they are legitimately graduating the two biggest threats. The more guys that return, the less scholarships they have to actually improve.

Also, all of their individual announcements state "I'm back" which epitomizes what that program is all about - "I" & "me", not "we".

I'm glad I'm not alone here. I keep seeing those "I'M BACK" graphics and felt like I was missing something. I honestly couldn't understand why they are hyping this these guys up so much.

They are returning 5 guys from a team that was barely above .500 in MAC play. Looks like maybe one scored in double figures.

Meanwhile we returned basically our entire team.

I've said before Gillespie is really the only one worth being excited about and even then he's not someone who can put a team on his back. Sumlin is a fine role player. Perhaps he develops into a 4th option. Medley I actually found to be underwhelming.

They will have to put those supposed portal dollars to work if they hope for anything better than a 4th place finish in the MAC.

Edit: Safford I believe is also returning as he got a medical redshirt. He should give them another solid 28-30 minutes a night. IMO they need another guard that can both score and create offense for others. They also need another starting caliber big.

Ditto for most of the above ...IMO, like all of the MAC they need a scoring big (to play beside Gillespie) and a scoring guard beside Medley plus a solid freshman for depth, to just get back to 'Top 4' in the MAC. They have not had a 'difference maker' for several years now.

The last difference maker they had only committed to Kent because his girlfriend went there. They have not been able to naturally attract talent.
