That is the game they moved to Northwestern instead of playing in Akron. I believe it was really windy that day in Chicago when we lost. One I believe was a game against West Virginia where the field was snow covered and we won and their coach was upset that they had to play on a snow covered field. The other was a game where our field was not playable and they moved the game to Chicago, Northwestern? where we lost. I remember that we wanted to move the game to the St. V. field and felt like we got screwed by the NCAA. If anyone can fill it these games it would be appreciated. (Assuming my memory is correct) I and my friends were at the BW3 on Exchange with so many layers of winter attire on we almost passed out from heat exhaustion. We piled out and started walking to the “Lee Jackson” field and noticed lights not on! Found out the match was postponed, moved to Chicago (yes it was vs Northwestern). And in Chicago, the wind was blowing off Lake Michigan at 30mph and rain/sleet sideways. I believe that was the impetus for the new stadium and the special turf developed for Akron climate.

I believe it was really windy that day in Chicago when we lost. Not exactly. This is the match BEFORE one that got moved to NW. This was vs OSU. On Tuesday before Thanksgiving, we drunkenly stumbled out of BW3 and up Exchange St. to Lee Jackson. The snow was thick and heavy and the field lights were dark. Match was postponed to Wednesday and relocated to St. V/M. Boo! As the announcer counted down the last seconds of a scoreless 2OT draw…. Zemanski with the free kick and Tutich with the finish header. Game clock expires. I was standing directly behind the goal nets. Zips over Buckeyes! No PKs after all. One of the best memories of my life. The NCAA then moving the following match to Northwestern was and still is unconscionable.🤬 4

Thanks for affirming my memory. I might have been at that game but cannot remember. I just remember the coach complaining. I might have just read that in the paper. I do remember the game at Northwestern and watching it on TV and remembering how windy it was. When the goal kicks were against the wind it went almost nowhere.

WOW...THANKS @TennZip. Brought tears to my eyes to watch that. Fantastic team who deserved better than to have a home NCAA Tournament game taken away from them. 2008 could easily have been the first Zips' appearance in the College Cup since 1986.
TennZip
Can anyone refresh my memory? Was the Ohio State game originally scheduled to be played on Sunday? Was the game first moved to Tuesday with the hope that it could be played on the Akron Campus? My memory is that by Tuesday...the field was still not playable so they moved the game to Wednesday. Did Northwestern end up having 3 days more rest than Akron? I think that Northwestern won their game on Sunday. Was the real temperature for the Ohio State at Akron game in the neighborhood of -5 degrees ? (maybe colder) I flew fron Nashville to Cleveland Tuesday night to spend Thanksgiving with my parents. When I got off the plane, my first question to my parents was "Did the Zips soccer team beat Ohio State on Tuesday night? " (I had told them that the game would be on 1350 radio). My dad smiled and said "The game has been moved to St. V on Wednesday and your mom, you and I are going to the game". It was a bone chilling to watch 1:09:55 of soccer action ...but it is one of my fondest memories with my parents in their later years (my mom passed away in early 2010). There was nothing better than watching Caleb Porter teams in tournament action during Thanksgiving week. Thanksgiving week 2009 - My mom's heart was too weak to go to tournament game in 2009. My dad and I watched the Zips beat Indiana in 2009 NCAA action during the week of Thanksgiving (My mom was glued to the radio...listening to the great Steve French broadcast the game).

I do not recall the weather being so cold as much as lots of heavy, wet snow, in a very short period of time. You may be right about the match originally being Sunday, then moved to Tuesday, then ultimately Wednesday. Not sure about all that. The NCAA Tournament before 2009 was the Wild West. Schedules were all over the place. In the early rounds, there seemed to be a match every day. Due in part to the Holy Hell raised by Akron over their home match converted into an away game, the NCAAT MSOC really become more rigid and standardized. That's right kids. However bad the NCAAT currently is, it used to far, far, way worse. ,,, At least, regarding MSOC.
Let'sGoZips94
The game that got moved to Northwestern was a damned travesty. There was a bus of fans/Rowdies that went to the shores of Lake Michigan. Northwestern's stadium was literally on the water. The wind was ridiculous, and it was sleeting. There were fans with blood showing on their face from the ice pellets slicing sideways. The winning goal by Northwestern was a "shot" aimed from the end line to the top of the box that the wind blew in over Evan Bush's(?) head into the goal. Total BS and the NCAA can rot in hell for what they stole from us.

TennZip
https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=21&articleId=54085&articleTitle=top-pro-prospects-in-mens-di-first-round Emil Jaaskelainan, Akron – One of the best international recruits in college soccer, Jaaskelainan took the step up from LIU to Akron and finished with the best season of his career. His stats are incredible: 66 goals in 82 games, with 21 assists. He had 30 goal contributions for the Zips in 19 games, and is all but a lock to be the TDS Player of the Year. There’s certainly a level of pro soccer out there for him, as he turns 24 next year. That could be back in England, in his native Finland or perhaps even a USL spot here. An MLS team out there surely can’t overlook him after the season he’s had, though there’s little doubt that he will look to keep his college career going in Thursday’s matchup against Princeton. Daniel Ittycheria, Princeton – It’s been a banner year for Ivy League men’s soccer, with three teams in the 48-team tournament field. The Ivy League tournament champs travel to Ohio to face Akron. Ittycheria is a dynamic wide attacker who can feature through the middle. The PDA product has a good chance of getting picked in the MLS Draft, though he could end up returning for his final season next fall. Let'sGoZips94
Princeton has 2 yellows, and one of the guys with a yellow should've had his 2nd. Another opportunity for the Zips. Goalie saved it on the backside of a meg, a foot from the goal line.
