This right here from Izzo. Gem.

Not difficult for him to say because in his back pocket is an unlimited amount of blank checks he can write to any player he needs.

As can all his peers, some of whom are hopping all over the place with no loyalty to their own guys. MSU in that logo chart is like the P4 version of Akron.

Michigan State is little brother to Michigan in their own state. They obviously have lots more resources than us at Akron, but relative to their peers (OSU, Michigan, etc.) they have to make their money stretch.

I agree with him and being in the tournament will probably be the highlight of the basketball careers of many of these players.  They should enjoy the moment.  I think the portal should not open after after the tourney.  We had the same thing in football where a team could not play a bowl game because too many players had entered the portal.  Makes no sense.

Absolutely, but Izzo is one of the few figureheads in the sport that could affect change should he wish to play his cards in such a way. Until he does, they're just empty words.

The news is a bit old, but I didn't see it posted elsewhere. The NCAA is looking to expand the regular season from 31 games to 32 games. That way teams have more opportunities to play more games against other conferences.

I like the extra game, but I would prefer the NCAA mandate all D1 teams play each quadrant home and away at least once in the OOC. Also, no teams from the same conference can play the same competition that year. It’s not going to happen. It makes too much sense and it’s too fair. The NCAA is run by the big conferences to control the small conferences and we can’t cut into the P5 home game profits.

This will ultimately benefit Akron in the long run.

Those numbers are inflated because you can declare for the draft, but back out. That's what Freeman did and Nate Johnson stated he was going to do this year. I imagine more players are just deciding spending April/May looking for an NIL deal instead of working out with NBA scouts.

Of those 363, I wonder how many stayed declared for the draft? That's what would be the true indicator.

You sure?

Yes. It's an indication that players are more likely to stay in college, which will suppress talent to the G5s. If P5s aren't constantly losing 1 & done's to pro basketball (both domestic & overseas), they won't have to scrape as much of the G5 ranks for their replacements. The top G5s will obviously be targeted but the overall floor for talent level that will fill the G5s should be higher than before.

I think you will see more Europeans come to America for college basketball as well. Probably only the elite top 8-10 European teams have higher payrolls than a Kentucky or UNC. Even a Dayton or VCU probably pays better than just about any 2nd or 3rd division team in those domestic leagues.

I'm not sure ... but I thought Euros were not eligible for NIL.

Am I wrong about that????

Initially that was the case, but there have been work arounds discovered. Like for example, if a team plays in a Carribean tournament (off American soil) they can host an autograph session and be paid for their services. Another option is they can go back to their home country for a few days and do some sort of event there and be paid.

Yup that's a great point. St. Bonnie right now is loading up on Euro talent.

They can make more money in college than the pros.  Why declare for the draft.
