Top Drawer soccer did a preview on the regional that the zips are in.

https://www.topdrawersoccer.com/article/?categoryId=21&articleId=55371&articleTitle=mens-ncaa-tournament-region-3-preview

4. Akron(m) (11-4-3) - 1.56 goals per game (76th ranked), .667 goals allowed per game (12th ranked)

Offensive Leader: Stefan Dobrijevic (8G, 10A)

     + Strong defense

+ Performed well against nationally ranked opposition

     - Offense can be inconsistent

There is no doubt Akron has the defense for a playoff run; the question is if the offense can score enough in a region packed with high-powered attacks. Losing the Big East semifinal was not encouraging, but the team will be well-rested after receiving a first-round bye.

The Beacon Journal is doing a nice job of promoting Zips mens soccer this week.

Malone Pioneer posted an excellent article from the Beacon(about zips seeding and possible opponents) .....under the ratings and RPI topic.

This morning, The Beacon did a very good article on Stefan Dobrijevic.  (attached below)

I greatly admire Stefan for his tremendous improvement as a soccer player over the past 4 years.

After reading this article, I also greatly admire Stefan as he is true definition of a "Student-Athlete".

Congratulations to Stefan on his success on the soccer field and also for his succcesses in the class room.

Dobrijevic grew up in Akron as an Akron Public Schools student, attending Salem Elementary School, STEM Middle School and Firestone High School. His family moved to Uniontown when he was 16, but he remained at Firestone, where he took engineering, college level and advanced placement classes, recorded a 4.7 GPA and graduated in December 2021.

Dobrijevic played club soccer with Internationals Academy, which is based in Medina, and started taking classes at UA in January 2022. He has a 3.8 GPA, earned a degree in business administration with a minor in marketing in December 2024 and is working toward an MBA.

We have the first result of the tournament and it's from the Zips section of the bracket...Duke beats FDU 1-0 to advance to a matchup with Princeton.

It was on a PK with about 2 minutes left when ab FDU defender made a horrible clearing pass right to Duke and a teammate was forced to foul in the box. They also mentioned that 2010 champion Akron is also in the same pod.

Seton Hall should have to start down a goal for having their pitch be the softball/baseball outfield. What are we doing...

Side note: multiview on ESPN+ is nice. I have 3 games up and was able to choose a view that doesn't have the Elon game. That game looks like someone is using a Harry Potter movie filter on the stream.

Clemson's stadium is excellent but their lighting sucks. Same with Michigan's stadium. Use some of the billions of dollars the football teams are making to get proper soccer pitch lighting.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk about poorly lit college soccer stadiums.

Unlike Western Michigan, at least Clemson, Michigan, UNCG, Seton Hall etc. have lights.

Touche.

Hofstra up 2-0 on Cuse with 18 minutes left in the 1st half.

WMU up 1-0 on Clemson with 15 minutes left in the 1st half.

The first Big East team advances. Seton Hall beats Siena on penalty kicks, when the Saints fail to convert any of their first three and Seton Hall gets all three. I will definitely root for Big East teams unless we're playing them. Oh, and by the way, during halftime of I think it was Michigan Notre Dame. They mentioned the small schools that got seeded and talked about us. We have a national championship and are in the Big East. F you. 😊

Notre Dame wins. Michigan played a horrible game, own goal and missed 2 open net tap ins. Notre Dame doesn't scare me, although they did park the bus successfully almost the whole second half

The halftime show of the Cuse game said the same thing. Pathetic arrogance.

Big Ten Tournament Champ UCLA goes down to automatic conference winner.....Grand Canyon

Big Ten Tournament runner up Michigan.......goes down to the highest RPI non automatic conference winner

Pathetic results for the Big Ten.

Yet, Indiana (5-5 in that mediocre league).....gets the overall #6 seed in the tournament......

The mighty ACC is also not shining.....

Number 37 RPI Syracuse controversially got a home game against number 27 RPI Hofstra

Hofstra smoked the ACC team.....2-0

Western Michigan with the biggest upset of the day....

Western Michigan came into their conferencee tournament with a 5-9-3 record....

they won 2 games in regulation and one on PK's....in conf. tourney

7-9-4......coming into the NCAA's

Mighty Clemson was 29 in RPI

The NCAA committee gave Clemson a super favorable draw......

play 7-9-4 Western Michigan in first round.....

Winner faces the highest seeded team....Number 16 Furman

by the placement in the draw....NCAA committee said that Clemson was one of the 4 best non seeded teams

Western Michigan beats the over rated ACC team 1-0

Number 50 RPI North Florida is about ready to go to 2nd overtime with #28 RPI North Carolina

Go, North Florida  !!!!

UNC beats UNF on seven rounds of penalty kicks. UNC had missed their sixth but then UNF also did. UNF definitely deserved the game had two goals called back and ended up tying the game with one second left in regulation. Both of UNF's goals were scored by a former tarheel.

that was a beautiful game winning goal by Marcus Caldera.    Hat trick for Caldera tonight.
