Zips1991 Posted Friday at 05:54 PM Report Posted Friday at 05:54 PM Wasn't sure where to put this but we've locked in some money games for upcoming years. https://fbschedules.com/akron-adds-five-power-opponents-to-future-football-schedules/ 1 Quote
exit322 Posted Friday at 06:42 PM Report Posted Friday at 06:42 PM (edited) Ugh, since there's only 5 home games in 2027 and 2028, hopefully this midweek nonsense goes away for 2028 so they can at least all be Saturday games. Edited Friday at 06:43 PM by exit322 1 Quote
ZippyDoo Posted Friday at 07:05 PM Report Posted Friday at 07:05 PM hopefully this generates some nice paychecks for the football program Quote

I would prefer one P4 game a year and 6 home games every year of course, but such is life being a poor. Quote

kreed5120 Posted Friday at 09:09 PM Report Posted Friday at 09:09 PM (edited) I'm perfectly content with 2 P5 games a year. We desperately need the money in order of having any hope of staying competitive in the MAC. Also, if we can't go 5-3 in MAC we frankly don't deserve to go bowling. The payouts for these P5 seem decent and as @LZIp stated for the most part they're 2nd or bottom tier P5 programs. The type of opponents that an upset, while unlikely, is possible. I don't think there is a single body tied to the schools that is discussing what happens next. As the season approaches, I have no enthusiasm for college football. I'm looking forward to the Zips game at Wake Forest, but that is largely because I'll see some people I know there. It certainly isn't the football. I didn't even buy Wake Forest season tickets this year for the first time in 18 years. Their first two games are on Thursday and Friday nights respectively. I don't care that the Friday game is against Miami and they are coming off of a trip to the championship game. I've seen #1 teams play there before and I don't think I'm missing much. Another game is on Halloween, but I'll be in Ohio for a wedding. We'll see how I feel next year, but I think I'm just about done with college football. It's amazing how much it has been destroyed in the past 5-6 years. 1 Quote

What makes no sense to me is that this is the same lump sum payment we were getting from such schools twenty years ago. Adjusted for inflation, it should be approximately double that amount by now. Adjusted for inflation, it should be approximately double that amount by now. Georgia I think is a decent chunk more than we were getting ~15 years ago. The others might be only slightly higher. I feel there is a several reasons for this. One is there are just simply more FBS teams compared to 15 years ago, 18 to be exact. Secondly, more and more G5 schools are trying to schedule 2 or in some cases 3 P5 paycheck games per year. 15 years ago the standard was for a G5 to only schedule 1 body bag game per season. Lastly, P4 conferences have gone from 8 conference games to 9 meaning they have 1 less OOC game per year to schedule. All of this has led to supply exceeding demand which has given the P4 programs more bargaining power when it comes time to negotiate these deals with the G5. A program like Georgia can offer Akron $1.5 million and if we reject it by asking for $2 million they will just laugh, hang up the phone, and call Kent or whoever else instead. kreed5120 Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago I'm a bit surprised by those odds. I haven't followed the offseason all that closely, but what I was hearing a month or so ago was that Miami and WMU were the favorites and Toledo was behind them. Wonder what has changed. Quote

I think I saw that Miami's expected starting QB is out for the season. Not sure on WMU. Quote

ZippyDoo Posted 2 hours ago Report Posted 2 hours ago remember last year Miami's quarterback left and then they put that young kid in and he led them to the championship and then fizzled out Quote
