It's died down a bit, and will pick up again next week when they select the winner, then will die down again and pick up around gameday time. This is like 6 weeks of publicity for us I would be interested to hear how many season tickets got sold last week. I wonder if they will ever release those figures. All I've seen is we now how season ticket holders in 38 states and 2 foreign countries. 1 1 Quote
csims0917 Posted Tuesday at 05:12 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 05:12 PM Maybe when Goodrich speaks with the board of trustees we will get some numbers. I believe he does it every fall. Last year was his first one but he had just gotten the job so I’m excited to hear this round and all the stuff he pulled off in the background (Nemer notably said how quickly Goodrich cleaned up athletics in just Summer 25 alone) Quote

If I'm an AAC school or a bottom tier P4 and I see all this publicity I would at least consider a marketing job for them due to their ingenuity. Even if I didn't plan to implement the same promotion. It's not just this promotion either. I feel the athletic department has done a lot of great things over the last year or two. This is just one of those things where you can point to and say my promotion sold x-thousand more season tickets, sold out suites, and brought in x-number in new sponsorship dollars. 1 Quote

If he lands the jersey sponsorship deal, which would be the first in the MAC to my knowledge, his phone will be ringing pretty quickly IMO. I'm assuming his interest is already picking up with the publicity from this promo, but the jersey sponsorship would be a HUGE resume highlight. No matter what happens, he has been a home run hire and hopefully means we have a recipe for success to find his successor. In the meantime, I'm very curious to see what he has cooked up for soccer & basketball. If this is what he can pull off for a less-than-successful football program, what's in store for the uber-successful soccer & basketball programs? 4 Quote

Anything basketball and definitely soccer related isn't going to generate the same buzz as football. The football program has been one of the worst in all of FBS over the last 10 years and it still averaged around 3x the attendance of MBB. It's probably too late for season ticket sale promotion for soccer given I think the season starts next week. We'll have to wait and see what they have brewing for single match events. I did see the Crew is hosting an UA alumni night. For basketball even if they found a way to sell another 500 season tickets and attract an additional 100-200 students/game it would improve the game day atmosphere tremendously. They really don't need a national viral promotional gimmick to achieve it. Just need to get a bit more community buy-in. Perhaps convince some of those football season ticket holders to get basketball as well. Edit: We see 5k+ Zips fan show up every year in Cleveland. We just need to convince some of them to go to games in January and February instead of only going to 3 games in March. Edited Tuesday at 06:39 PM by kreed5120 1 Quote

The Athletic Department has been so passive and just not engaging with the community for so long that it's just going to take time. If this promotion kick starts a bit, that's a good start. 1 Quote

Ham Posted Tuesday at 10:47 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 10:47 PM People. Enjoy the moment! You act like we can't ever have anything nice. I really hope these guys can double down and come up with a great game day experience. Why wait for home coming? Advertise a great pregame tailgate party. Is it too late to get someone like Goodyear or Leaf Filter to sponsor a lot. Get the band involved visiting each lot. Set up our own "game day" stage. There must be a least a couple of the "celebrity" wood be OC's that we could bring to town. Keep thinking outside the box! Quote

Dustin should be preparing for the "Guest Assistant HC" promotion at one of the early home games. 1 Quote

Yes, I received something in the mail about it a week or two ago. I pulled this from the UA Alumni facebook page for those who might not have seen. https://calendar.uakron.edu/event/27641-3rd-annual-greek-alumni-and-student-tailgate?fbclid=IwdGRjcAToqKtjbGNrBOiomXBkb2YFZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQMMzUwNjg1NTMxNzI4AAEeb5cZsvSO2-LUX8xTXKFQSxq7h9lPxstSkVH5BF1r4jxBQMoWUZdtTmPo6Q4_aem_v-D-y1dSCnyCBm-GiVUShw Edited Wednesday at 01:16 AM by kreed5120 Quote
GP1 Posted Wednesday at 10:05 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 10:05 PM I got a notice today about the Wake Forest, Zips tailgate. I have to tip my hat, the location is pretty good. It's close to the stadium, in a paved lot, there are usually bands playing around there before games and if the ACC Network is there, it will be close to their set up. Be prepared. It's going to be hotter than most Ohioans are used to. 1 Quote

Assuming they signed an FBS deal it would have to be G5. They look like a social media sports company so the fact Akron's promotion went viral I think it makes them a real possibility as it gives them marketable content. I would have preferred Goodyear or something like that, which is still a possibility, but if the check clears so be it. Edited 21 hours ago by kreed5120 Quote

Can’t imagine the check would be big, but I guess there’s value in the advertising that would come along with the partnership. Quote

I don't know if I'd equate reported attendance numbers (which we know are inflated) to buzz being generated. Also keep in mind that people only have six chances to see the football team play at home, versus fifteen home basketball games (plus another three in nearby Cleveland). Just not the same. Quote

I wasn't really equating physical people showing up. Just average tickets sold per game. If anything basketball having 15 games makes basketball have even greater value for season tickets as you get 15 games for $100 vs football where you get 5-6 games for $75. Edit: I think in basketball you only have to show up to about half the games to get your money's worth. There are all kinds of other metrics that show college football is more widely watched compared to basketball (TV ratings, NIL spend, coaching salaries, etc.) Edited 20 hours ago by kreed5120 Quote
