Captain Kangaroo Posted Wednesday at 03:57 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 03:57 PM It's about that time...time to start talking about the Zips upcoming opponent. I will be traveling to Winston-Salem for the game. What the heck...it should be good weather and a great time. We'll hit Asheville for an extended weekend afterwards. Will my trip to Lourdes France bring the miracle we need to get Poffenbarger eligible, or has the Cibastian Broughton Era gotten off to an earlier-than-expected start? 1 Quote

zipdiehard Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago We will be there along with our alumni son! First time getting to see the Zips since moving to Greensboro a few years ago. Quote

Stanford has Laird Q Cagan Stadium and Ueland Field next to their football stadium, one of which may be a Quidditch Pitch - hard to tell. Quote

kreed5120 Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago I wasn't all that surprised to see PA, MI, FL, CA, and TX rank among the top 10 states for Akron alumni. I was surprised to see the heavy concentration of alumni in the VA, Carolina, GA region. Not that I wouldn't have guessed 1 or 2 of those states to make the top 10, but I wouldn't have guessed all 4. Scheduling more games against programs like Georgia Tech, Virginia, NC State, etc. would seem to make a lot of sense if we want to keep alumni outside of Ohio more engaged. Quote
ZippyDoo Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago For anyone interested I looked yesterday for shots and giggles at Fanduel and they are giving the Zips +24.5..... I learned the hard way about those gambling sites but that sure is tempting!!!! Quote

It's not much of a stadium. The indoor tennis center is nice. If you will be taking Uber, that's where Uber drops off and picks up. Quote

GP1 Posted 36 minutes ago Report Posted 36 minutes ago I hope this game serves as a good example for Zips fans who would like a better game day experience at The Big Dialer than they are getting. When you go to a game at Wake Forest, you aren't going to see what you would normally think of as P4 facilities. Far from it. What you are going to see is a school that maximizes the fan experience with limited resources. It doesn't matter if they are playing Akron or Clemson, they are going to give a 100% effort using what they have to work with to help you have a fun time. Wake's stadium is no different than Akron. In fact, The Big Dialer is better in almost every way with the exception of the scoreboard. The stadiums are almost exactly the same size. They have a giant press box, Akron has a giant press box. They have a grass hill, Akron has a grass hill. They have large parking lots, Akron has large parking lots. Akron has a bar scene around the stadium, Wake doesn't have one. Take note fans. If you just put some effort into it, you can make the game day a lot of fun even if you don't have much to work with. Quote

Translation: Wake Forest offers a Mercedes Benz experience compared to your standard P4 Lamborghini. Akron receives ~$2M +/- in revenue share from the MAC. We're delivering a 2005 Honda Civic with 300k miles experience. "Limited resources" LOL. The only notes that should be taken are how to ride the coat tails of more successful athletic programs to bigger financial gains than most of the country while in a geographically advantageous location. I'm sure Wake puts fine effort into their gameday experience, and I agree Akron's effort is poor at best, but comparing the two situations in any manner whatsoever is disingenuous to a logical discussion. kreed5120 Posted 2 minutes ago Report Posted 2 minutes ago I will say Akron's effort in the past has been poor. Under Goodrich the past 2 years the effort has seemed much improved. It just takes time. Rome wasn't built in a day. Not that Akron is Rome. Quote
