He broke a rule that is against the rules in junior high, freshman, JV, high school, college and the NFL. It's football, not pro wrestling.

He was playing through the whistle. The refs should have blown the whistle. That’s not a rule at any of those levels unless the whistle is blown. Rewind it and see if you hear a whistle blown. He threw the RB to the ground. He didn’t land on him and it wasn’t a QB.

As encouraged as I was in the first half, despite the drops and penalties, I’ve been equally discouraged this half.

It's punishable as unnecessary roughness under Rule 12, Section 2, Article 15 of the NFL rule book.

Yet they called it verbatim “personal foul, after the play was over” when a whistle hadn’t been blown.

White’s knee looked like it stay locked in the wrong direction after being hit on that replay. He probably won’t be back for a while. Unfortunate for him.

#87 is a backup, but he’s stuck out to me in garbage time in every game so far.

whistles hadn't blown. that was a cheap 15 yard penalty.

It's a penalty no matter what. The whistle angle is nonsense. It was a dumb play by 97.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on this then. His other option would be to let him go and with no whistle who knows what that play turns into. In all my years of coaching I’ve always taught to play through the whistle, no matter the level. I’m frustrated for the player for blowing up the play, making sure he finished it, and then getting penalized for the refs not doing their job.

Encouraged or discouraged, wasn't this the type of game the Zips were supposed to be competitive in by now?  Not winning necessarily, but not embarrassed by a .500 Big 10 team.

Maybe in the old days or if we had a reasonable NIL budget. Minnesota is paying their roster $20 million. We’re paying next to nothing.

We didn't get beat that badly by better talent. Big mistakes were the difference between this game being competitive versus not. That's coaching.

Coaches bring in the talent too. Do you think the coaches are coaching players to fumble, not catch a contested ball, field a punt like an idiot, rip a player off a pile, etc?

Accountability and discipline. You don't see these things happen with excellent coaches, regardless of the talent level. It is accepted as normal at Akron because we've only ever had bad to mediocre coaches for the past 20+ years.

He's only had 4 1/4 seasons.  He has 14 wins already.  What more do you want?

 

Seriously though, things aren't good enough and Moorhead isn't the type to do more with less, but I'm glad their attitude was good today and they didn't give up from the jump.

Or, he could have found another way to get another adult to the ground. Players should play through the whistle. Whether or not a whistle blows doesn't absolve players from following the rules.
