ZippyDoo Posted Thursday at 04:27 PM Report Posted Thursday at 04:27 PM (edited) in all honesty, only coming to there for game days, how much of a problem is the marathon going to be on Saturday if I were to arrive around 10:30? I usually park in the general parking at Spicer and E. Exchange St, close to the Score Draft Bar and Taco Bell entrance... Edited Thursday at 04:34 PM by ZippyDoo Quote

It's been a number of years since I've been in Akron on marathon day so things might have changed, but there is a lot of family, volunteers, and friends in that general vicinity so the lot you might normally want to park in might be full. Given that the stadium is directly off the highway I can't imagine traffic will necessarily be terrible if you're coming from 77, but you may be forced to park in one of the lots surrounding the stadium or the parking garage. ZippyDoo Posted Thursday at 04:57 PM Report Posted Thursday at 04:57 PM ok thanks. That's the way i come in. it's easy and right off the highway. i just parked in that general parking and walked across that other lot across from scores in the main gate. it was nice and convenient. i was looking at that chart of the routes and it doesn't look like any of the routes are around that area so I was hoping it would be ok. Captain Kangaroo Posted Thursday at 05:10 PM Report Posted Thursday at 05:10 PM The Zips have had numerous noon home games over the years on Marathon Day, and there's never been a stadium parking issue. I typically arrive at 10 am. Quote

I just looked at the map and you're probably good. Back 10-15 years ago when I volunteered for the event one of the courses involved Spicer, which is why I said the lot you wanted might be full. That doesn't appear to be the case now. Quote
infofan Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM Report Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM Just confirming The marathon route loops through campus by EJ Thomas, Buchtel Ave Fir Hill at the 8 mile marker which puts the first runners there about 745 and the last around 945 so theyll be clear of UA by 10 or so. And if coming from Rt 8 theres no effect. Its about 18000 runners and 100000 family/spectators so very different effect in other parts of town Quote

clarkwgriswold Posted Saturday at 06:15 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:15 PM Three decent drives that resulted in no points combined with two UNLV TDs where the Zips didn't have a DB in the same zip code. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted Saturday at 06:29 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:29 PM What to write…? So horrible on 3rd and long… Got a redshirt sophomore QB who’s playing well enough for us to win, and we’re getting smoked. One bungling, crippling mistake after another… 1 1 1 Quote

kreed5120 Posted Saturday at 06:42 PM Report Posted Saturday at 06:42 PM Too many large chunk plays given up. This team has more talent than previous years, but there is little to no talent in the secondary. Quote

exit322 Posted Saturday at 07:15 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:15 PM I'm not angry about it. It's only Year 5. Joe can't be expected to compete with a 10-4 Mountain West team after only 51 games coached here. Seriously though, Akron isn't good enough to beat teams like this when making mental mistakes, but I think they can win games in the MAC. 1 Quote
kreed5120 Posted Saturday at 07:34 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:34 PM We were on our 3rd string QB and competing against the preseason MWC favorite. Offense seemed to play well in the first half, which helped mask the poor defensive performance. In the second half it seemed like UNLV figured something out defensively as Akron was no longer able to sustain long drives. Without Akron's offense able to eat the clock with long drives it left the defense very exposed. Against an opponent like UNLV Akron needed to minimize possessions and hope for a few bounces to go their way. In the first half that's what they were able to do minus forcing a turnover or two. The second half everything unraveled. Luckily for Akron the MAC is very bad. 4-5 wins is realistic. Quote
clarkwgriswold Posted Saturday at 07:38 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:38 PM They were up 7-0 and then got outscored 38-3. In the end, they were beaten by a more talented team but they blew their chance to be in the game with turnovers and mental errors on defense. Receivers getting that open aren't getting that open because a talent deficiencies of the DBs. They're getting that open because of inexcusable mental errors in coverage. 1 Quote

But it's OK, Joe needs more time to build his program. Quote
Reslife4Life Posted Saturday at 07:47 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:47 PM Even if UNLV is supposed to be that good, it’s just crazy to have a showing like that. This isn’t Minnesota, Tennessee, UCLA, this was a team at our same “level”. I’m sure we will win some MAC games, but are we ever going to get to a point where we can be competitive with teams like this? Maybe we are due for our random road win of the season against CMU, but going in to homecoming at 1-4 isn’t going to help the confidence of the team or fans Quote

The looking like complete crap because of clownish mistakes is another. Getting handled easily by Minnesota is one thing. Getting handled at home by a team that had to travel across country, with a game time that equals a 9 AM start for their bodies and is at our level is something that should be unacceptable for MAC schools. The game I have met on is the WMU game. Can a top level MAC school keep it close against a high level G5 program, or maybe even pick off a home win. If not, what is this conference doing other than sell it's soul for weeknight games and a tagline (MACtion). 1 Quote

Otherwise it's long since time to try something else. This isn't working, and he's not the guy to rise above the program's limitations. But he sure will talk about them every chance he gets. Quote
