MangoZip Posted Saturday at 09:34 PM Report Posted Saturday at 09:34 PM Well on a positive note, on that drive we did complete our 5th pass and go over 50yds passing halfway through the 3rd quarter Quote
exit322 Posted Saturday at 09:39 PM Report Posted Saturday at 09:39 PM In Year 5, we're losing by three scores to a CMU team that can't throw the ball. In Year 2, Kent State's tied 10-10 with Ohio in the third quarter. Quote

Zips1991 Posted Saturday at 09:45 PM Report Posted Saturday at 09:45 PM It's beginning to feel like there's no way for us to compete at the FBS level in today's college athletics environment. Quote

There's definitely a real question here. You can't then magnify your limitations by hiring the wrong coach and then extending him. Edited Saturday at 09:53 PM by exit322 Quote

I don't see why we can't compete at the MAC level. I don't see a lack of talent or lack of available talent. There will always be players transferring down to schools like Akron. The problem on the field is lack of execution, not lack of talent. And in addition, there seems to be a pretty serious coaching problem, both developmentally and in-game. I am convinced that if we found a hungry young coach who wanted to prove himself in FBS, the Zips could be successful. In terms of NIL and other resources, It's not as if many other programs are not in the same boat. 5 Quote

This is embarrassing You can't really compare professional sports to collegiate sports. There are mechanisms in place that at least give smaller market teams a fighting chance. Players can't even hit free agency until they're nearly pushing 30. In college sports everyone is on a 1 year deal with no draft or other forms of evenly distributing talent. EMU actually has a billionaire alumni who gifts athletics money. They're better funded than you would think. Kent is fairly comparable, but it's not like they're anything special. They're on par with Akron most years. 1 Quote

phil Posted Saturday at 10:05 PM Report Posted Saturday at 10:05 PM Another unwatchable Akron Zips football game. I think in the last 10 years, about 75% of our games have been games where Akron was not competitive like today. Just hard to watch through the years. 1 Quote

I don't know. There must be a ton of FBS schools out there in similar straits to UA. If we were the best of those schools, we would have something to be proud of. Again, win or lose, I think most of us want to see us COMPETE! That means execute: wrapping your arms on a tackle, controlling turnovers, not committing stupid penalties, angle of pursuit, etc. 1 Quote
ZipForNow Posted Saturday at 10:12 PM Report Posted Saturday at 10:12 PM Also, we need a balanced attack whether we are ahead or behind. As soon as we fall behind, we throw too much. We have good backs. A single well-designed run play can move the chains just as well as two incomplete passes followed by a long completion, and definitely even better than a 3-and-out passing attack. Quote

To be fair to the offensive genius, we have 29 run plays and 26 passes. We're not passing "too much" except for to note that Roggow just doesn't have it today. 1 Quote
ZippyDoo Posted Saturday at 10:20 PM Report Posted Saturday at 10:20 PM time and time again it's the same thing same players big gain unsportsmanlike like penalty number 71. stupid undisciplined penalty. there are coaches on this staff refuse to play players because they "don't like" a player. personally not because the player isn't good but because they don't like them. top 100 tight end in the country transfer from michigan state can't get on the field? top ranked fcs transfer defensive senior tackle can't get a SINGLE snap cause the coach doesn't like him? we play two edge rushers an entire game with junior transfers ? why even bring them? we have a 6'7 320 lb freak that can't get on the field at ANY POSITION? i misspoke players do care, but they see the bullshit. FOUR defensive tackles play. FOUR. and two of them play nearly every snap. and nothing has changed and they are getting shredded still in the fourth. i'm not a coach but im in the bleachers and i can tell what the game plan is and i can assure every team moving forward is going to know what to do also. it is obvious the qb is audibling to run to a specific side ever time. and there goes another one Quote

Our defense is horrendous so our only hope to win is to win high scoring games. If CB returns soon perhaps that can salvage the season as the offense looked much better with him running it. Roggow clearly isn't the guy. Edited Saturday at 10:34 PM by kreed5120 Quote
