  1. Past hour
  2. The secret to Calhoun's success for sure!
  3. Shammah Scott needs 8 points to reach 1,000 for his career.
  4. Akron was definitely feeling the pressure of being the team that had something to lose this past weekend once Miami lost. The script flips on Friday. As we are the team with nothing to lose. we were playing with Purdue and even ahead the first eight minutes of the game before their size overwhelmed us. I don’t think T tech can over power us. with that being said, I don’t think our guards can stop their guards. So it’s gonna be a track meet whoever shoots better wins… I thought the same thing last year against Arizona as they were not a bunch of trees and then they dominated us defensively an shut us down completely.
  5. I will be looking to see which team scores more points. That should determine the outcome.
  6. I was devastated that night when the news broke. There have only been two Zips teams I felt could legitimately make a run in the tournament. The 2012-2013 and 2019-2020. Abreu weed shipment and Covid ended those dreams.
  7. I went over to YSU for the preseason scrimmage. It is a very nice cozy facility and the sight lines are good. The bleacher seating on the ends is a little goofy but I'd be happy with a similar reno for the JAR.
  8. Summer of 2024 i believe YSU spent @2 million to replace ALL the seats at Beegly center with new chairbacks floor to ceiling on the sides. The Zildjen family paid a big chunk of the cost. Beegly and Rhodes arenas are very similar. That reduced seating from 6300 to 4633. Central Michigan's Rose arena was also very similar. Retractable bleachers upstairs, chairs down. They did a sizable renovation ,(20 million in 2010) that increased seating from 5200 to 5300 utilizing angled seating in corners. It was a nice facility with cushioned theater seats everywhere but endzones, though it did not have a centerhung scoreboard
  9. I think they play in bandboxes, high school level gyms and barns all season then they hit a big time arena that doesn't give them the opportunity to practice in the facility or have a meaningful shoot around, and it takes time to adjust. I think that's a factor in the MAC tourney shooting.
  10. It won't be MAC refs in Dayton!
  11. That's quite a hot take. Aiming instead of shooting?
  12. I was thinking the same thing. 👍
  13. They keep saying it'll be a home game for Miami OH. I won't believe it until I see a +20 Free Throw Attempt advantage for the Redhawks.
  14. We haven't won a tourney game before - I'm all for mixing it up.
  15. I didn't start one thinking the tournament thread covered it as it did not the past, but have at it!
  16. Today
  17. Miami OH losing put all the pressure on the Zips in Cleveland. They took their foot off the gas to seemingly conserve energy vs. Buffalo. Then they couldn't re-engage how they wanted and the offense struggled the rest of the tournament. Watching their shooting motions, they looked to be aiming. They weren't confident in their shots and were trying to be precise, hence why the majority of the shots were short. I do not expect the same type of performance in Tampa. Not saying they'll shoot lights out, but I expect a better flow and more confidence offensively.
  18. I definitely think whoever wins the three-point shooting battle wins the game. We shot 32% this weekend (26/82), so that will have to improve a bit. It should go without saying, but we need to do much better at the FT line too- shooting 57% (31/54) like we did this weekend won't cut it.
  19. 88% of the money is on Akron ML.
  20. Definitely points to that he will be unlikely to leave for a lateral move or one at somewhere like an A10 school that might be perceived as half a step up.
  21. ~40% from 3P and we win this game. Maintain an up-tempo pace - run these guys out of the gym. They're not deep, they're not tall, and Akron is due. Play with confidence.
  22. Just bought the FTR Collective hoodie this morning, excited to get it!
  23. Coach Groce got choked up yesterday at the Watch Party talking about Bud Wentz and how he believed in his vision for the program when he first came in. He genuinely seems to love Akron and being here. I'm not saying programs won't reach out - they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't - but I would be surprised if he left.
  24. I'd be hammering SMU. UMass shot 3-15 (20%) from 3P and beat Miami OH because of 6'9" Bettiol. SMU has a 7'2" C and 4 guards/forwards that shoot 37% or better from 3P.
  25. I've bought from here before but haven't looked in a while. I need the Zippy mug. 🫠
  26. Miami RedSquawks are +6.5 vs. SMU; has potential to be a good game..
  27. Because creating new threads is fun (and it might be nice to have a specific game thread) 😁 Fri. 3/20 at 12:40 ET at Tampa NHL arena on TruTV Zips +7.5 on DraftKings The game is getting some media buzz as one of the most likely upsets due to TT injuries and good team size matchup.
