These refs have been atrocious. That phantom late call on the missed Toledo layup/bunny was pathetic.
-
As a coach he has to be. But it's also his fault for not recruiting a viable big to clog the lane. A couple Toledo possessions ago, we doubled the balls at the top of the key with Lyles and Evan M. Toledo passed out of it and left Scott and another guard as the lone defenders in the post. Defensive game plan was clearly executed, but Toledo played out of it and the obvious flaw was found. Toledo is playing extremely well offensively and I just don't see how we're supposed to stop them with the personnel we have. It's up to our offense to produce and Toledo to cool off.
-
And he was fouled on it with no call.
-
Doing a better job getting them off the three point line
-
Dunk of the year by Eric.
-
Well, Groce was as mad as I have ever seen him at the team over the defense. Agree on the turnovers.
-
Very unimpressed by him. Couple nice hustle plays today at least
-
He has also had the hot hand offensively. Hardman-lite tonight.
-
Sharron needs to knock one down here
-
Halligan getting a lot of playing time. Guess John trying to impress on them that defense matters.
-
I disagree with the bad defense. The turnovers were way worse than the defense. Not saying the defense was perfect or even good, but I didn't see bad defense. We had 7 takeaways and the majority of their scoring came from hot shooting, not defensive breakdowns. Most of the time we can't physically play better defense without risking fouling. I also don't understand our defensive scheme. We actively look to double then people get pissed when there is a man left open. Our personnel just doesn't lend itself to shutdown defense and we compound that deficiency with the doubling scheme. Unless there are rotations not being executed, we're gonna have to live with a few open shots here and there.

Zach halligan junkyard dog

The problem is the longer they hang around the more dangerous they get. If a player sees a few easy ones go in it makes the challenging shots later in the game easier to hit as they're in rhythm and not second guessing themselves. Its best to jump on these teams early to assert dominance.
-
Amani 0 3PA in the first half, he could be the key to getting back in this
-
Toledo comes out hot and we have a red hot chat😂
-
Even with bad defense, there is no way Toledo stays this hot for the entire second half. When they cool off (and maybe when we start playing good defense), they will panic and get desperate.
-
It’s not even like Yale where we have a clear target on the doubles, most of them aren’t in good positions on the court for a double
-
Hot shooting + bad defense = 49 first half points
-
I didn't like our last few offensive possessions. We forced up several tough shots with time left on the shot clock. We need to eliminate these open court turnovers. Also, perhaps send less double teams. It's leaving a lot of open looks from 3.
-
11 points off turnovers for Toledo
-
Worst half all season. Just awful on offense and defense.
-
What an ugly half for the Zips.
-
Ding ding ding! Our issues right now are our turnovers and our turnovers.
-
Still need to defend them though
-
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict they won't shoot 82% on threes all night.
