  1. Past hour
  2. Creighton head coach Greg McDermott announced he's retiring after season. I'm much more concerned about the Big East / A10 schools trying to poach Groce and not so much the big boys from the ACC and BigTen again.
  3. It's not really a P4. It's a Big 2 with SEC and BIG. Big 12 has still managed to remain competitive. It doesn't seem like the ACC schools have the money to compete in both football and basketball. Probably on even footing with Big East.
  4. Admittedly, the tough part of the branding here is determining if it's really a P4, or if it's more of a P2.5, because the ACC is so far behind the SEC/B1G/even B12.
  5. Providence just hired Hodgson from USF, who turned down Cuse due to a lack of funding. Providence is rumored to be in the $10M range next year for their roster. P4 doesn't mean the resources are better; Iowa is exhibit A. McCollum is just that good of a coach. Florida has ample resources but Golden sucks both as a coach and as a human being. It's possible to compete outside the P4, but it requires the right coach/staff.
  6. But without football, there's a lot less excess revenue to spread around to buy players for other sports. It is no coincidence that the Sweet 16 contains only one non-P4 school, and St. Johns is a traditional basketball powerhouse with an exceptional coach. Even traditional P4 powerhouse basketball schools such as UNC, Kentucky, and Kansas have had a steep dropoff in recent years while Michigan and Iowa, where football is relatively strong, have risen in basketball.
  7. Definitely a premier mid-major job, I agree. UConn should be part of that grouping, too.
  8. Today
  9. Creighton should be one of the premier jobs in the country. Outside of UCONN, the entire Big East should be. Without football, the revenue share can all go towards basketball; don't need to rely on donors as much.
  10. It's tough being a non-P4 coach, especially when you used to be in a major basketball league.
  11. Then we didn't adjust like they did. This is loser talk
  12. Inflate-gate. LOL.
  13. 100%. It magnifies less-than-perfect shooting IMO. TTU was pure on Friday - nothing but nylon. The NCAA is so so so so so bad. I question more and more if the NCAA governing body isn't more of a money laundering operation than anything.
  14. I’m not saying the ball was the reason we lost, but it’s apparently an issue. And something that fundamental to the sport shouldn’t be.
  15. I questioned this early in the game thread. Tavari had one layup bounce HARD off the backboard and he seemed to shy away from using the backboard the rest of the game. His floaters and reverse layups went straight for the cylinder which requires more precision, especially with over-inflated balls. Our bounce passes seemed to catch the recipient off guard as well. One team made their 3s - the other didn't and tried doing their damage in the paint. To completely dismiss this is silly.
  16. both teams play with the same ball, this is nothing imo
  17. But it could have affected Tavari especially with his layups. I can’t believe this is another thing we have to think about. Good grief!!
  18. They didn't used to. You have to understand, the people working in college athletics don't care about the average fan. They are catering to drunks and degenerate gamblers. Those two groups tend to get their days started later than most. Since they also tend to be life's failures, they don't have much to do on Monday morning.
  19. Groce is a member of the Summit Circle. It's completely legal, whether by design or not.
  20. It's probably a loophole since they aren't paying any specific player directly.
  21. I think Akron was the only Over because of TTU's hot 3P shooting.
  22. In this country, how to spend one’s own money has come to be seen as an inalienable right. I wonder how this would play out in court. It seems like a bad idea for coaches to be able to do this.
  23. It’s a really good question.
  24. For some reason I thought coaches weren’t permitted to contribute. Then again, it’s not like rules are being enforced anymore
  25. Alabama must have saw my earlier comments. They're putting on a shooting clinic in the 2nd half.
