  1. Past hour
  2. I'm as disappointed as anyone that the Zips season has come to an end. That disappointment is enhanced by the current state of college basketball and its impact on programs like the Zips. That being said, I couldn't be more proud of the Zips program for reasons beyond their on court success. Every player that's exhausted their eligibility in Groce's nine year tenure has left with at least one degree. Every scholarship player except one who finished his career with the Zips has become a professional basketball player for at least one year. Arizona, Duke, Michigan or another major conference team is likely to continue winning and add a National Championship trophy to its trophy case but I'd challenge any of them to match the above accomplishments.
  3. I really don't think Butler is that attractive of a job any more. Nice program, great history...sure, but not the type of program you can't pass up.
  4. Today
  5. The forfeit and three points are confirmed here by the league:
  6. I think that's a common use of the term, but it is important to point out that the lawlessness with the Transfer Portal is the biggest issue.
  7. No no, this is fair. I was using "NIL" as something of an overarching statement.
  8. Nate Oats joining in on ripping Miami OH. I love it. These coaches let Miami OH's carriage turn back into a pumpkin and now they're stomping on it. It's glorious.
  9. I don't think think Cody would've accepted a redshirt had he not planned to be here for the long haul. Guy was an assassin at Lipscomb his freshman year. He also looked very engaged with the team throughout the season. I think he took multiple huge steps this year. In addition to his defensive improvement, he really looked to dribble drive and be more aggressive on offense. I will forever wish they would've just given him the ball at the logo during latter part of the TTU game to fire up 3s. We needed our white 3P assassin more than ever (the key to nearly every Cinderella run haha). Bull. Akron doesn't have a permanent ceiling. Akron just hasn't had the right bounces/luck to hit that next level. Fully believe we'll get there, especially with Bud Wentz as "The Orchestrator." Fully believe there will start to be a sense of pride for mid majors players to want to break the narrative that Cinderellas are dead. Young adults are naturally rebellious. Programs like Akron that can provide long term financial opportunities will be able to break through as long as the culture is there. Gotta wait and see if he's committed to the program. If he is, the potential is endless with him. He could be nasty on offense and a real problem for opponents defensively. Really wish he would've developed more because we needed his size/versatility more and more as the season went on.
  10. Unlike the Cincinnati job, this one makes a lot of sense for a younger version of John Groce. Today, I just don’t think so. I’m picturing the bear-hug embrace between Groce and Wentz after the MAC Tourney win. Add to that Travis is in the conference and the MAC has shown growth. I think he stays put. Maybe it’s my Zippy colored glasses.
  11. Don’t forget about the streamlined use of the portal, transfer rule change and increased roster size.
  12. I do think getting two teams in helps, even if just a little.
  13. I can't consider a Big 10 team a Cinderella.
  14. Is Nebraska a top-5 paid team like Indiana football was?
  15. Nored's name has been HOT for that job. Played for Brad Stevens at Butler.
  16. Well sure, if the P4 team completely overlooks the mid-major, they can stay close for awhile. But I'll note that none of those teams mentioned are watching tape for today or tomorrow. NIL killed the dance. It is what it is.
  17. Yes it may be tougher for teams out of the horizon, big west, southland to win. But we have seen some “Cinderella-adjacent” runs in college sports this year with Indiana football and maybe we will see something similar with Nebrasketball
  18. Don't know who this account it, but did notice several coaches follow it.
  19. I still think it's possible for mid-majors to win, personally.
  20. I have no insight. I am just an alum and a fan who enjoys basketball. I will say that until a MAC team wins consistently 1 or 2 games in the tournament, I don’t believe the conference will be taken seriously. I have friends who point to the one and done MAC tournament teams and the often-lopsided losses as prove the conference is second rate. Having said that, my wife and I are season ticket holders for many years and love attending games and following the team. Coach Groce and his staff are outstanding! I hope he stays for many more years.
  21. I kind of wonder if some of the players learned from Nate and Okonkwo to not post anything until they knew for sure they were staying.
  22. We should have also learned that a 20 year old's social media commitment means very little.
  23. I actually checked this earlier. The "Back to Work" posts went up Sunday evening following their tournament loss. I imagine they'll get back from Florida, touch base with all of the players, then we start hearing things.
  24. Didn't know where to put this. Can you still buy a hot buttered hoagie on Exchange?
  25. I guess I was being too generous to TCU.
  26. Yesterday
  27. Might be worth keeping an eye on players’ social media—if I remember right, last year they started posting graphics announcing their return about a week or two after the tourney loss.
  28. There are 18 year olds playing in the NHL and MLB. They'll be fine. Also, with the TP, just replace them when they wear down.
