  4. Game Day Notes: DeQuan Finn has struggled at times this season, but is at his best when plays break down. The former MAC Player of the Year gives Miami a weapon on offense that few teams can offer. For Akron to have a shot in this one, the Zips will need to contain Finn and slow down Miami’s ground game. Miami has several very capable running backs, but injuries in recent weeks have taken their toll. It remains to be seen who ends up shouldering the bulk of the workload. Kam Perry has been the go-to target in the passing game, already racking up 428 yards on the season. However, Miami isn’t short on talent — several other receivers are more than capable of making plays at any time. Miami has battled injuries along the offensive line and won’t enter this game at full strength. Akron’s defensive front will need to take advantage of that and look to create some disruption. The RedHawks have plenty of talent on the defensive side of the ball and are led by defensive end Adam Trick, linebacker Jackson Kuwatch, and defensive back Eli Blakely. If I’m not mistaken, Miami’s special teams have scored touchdowns in each of the past three weeks. I believe Miami is the best team left on the schedule. Akron will likely need to play close to mistake-free football to have a chance, as points and yards will probably be hard to come by. I’m still picking Miami to win, but hopefully I’m wrong and the Zips can build off last week’s momentum and find a way to get it done. Zips yearly individual stats and how they currently stack up against the rest of the MAC: Finley is 3rd in passing yards and tied for 3rd in passing touchdowns. Gant is tied for 3rd in total rushing yards. Mason is 6th in receiving yards while Polk is 13th. Cooper is 12th in total tackles. Dall is 7th in sacks. Durham and Laventure are tied for 13th. DeWalt is 2nd in passes defended with Dall tied for 3rd. Reed is tied for 7th in interceptions.
  5. Those four are a good class. The best 4-year class in a while. They did not always play well, but they always stuck together. They were good soldiers. And they looked after each other. These men will succeed.
  6. Friday October 10th Number 20 Indiana gets a 4-2 home win over Ohio State Number 4 West Virginia with a 2-1 win over the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina

  8. I believe in miracles.
  9. Do we really think that people who make such a poor decision have the ability to self-reflect?
  10. Congrats to Beto Ydrach on his call up to Perto Rico National Team … https://pittsburghsoccernow.com/2025/10/10/riverhounds-beto-ydrach-called-up-to-puerto-rico-national-team-for-tuesdays-friendly-vs-argentina/
  11. Regardless, bummer for the player(s). I hope they take this time during recovery and rehab to also reflect on their poor life decision to commit to Kent State.
  12. Or possibly just had their eligibility expire.
  13. yeah, I'll update this when I get a chance. Quick trivia: Where did Huggins coach for one season after Walsh and before Akron and in what role?
  14. God hath not wrought a finer human than Darlington Nagbe.
  15. Personally, have no clue. But since the recruit is a PG perhaps Medley is the guy. Have to look at their roster to see who really is a PG now.. Sullinger and Bekelp (?) both graduated. Maybe it's the freshman G. from St. Ignatius. Again, don't really know.
  16. Last week
  17. No. They were more the astroturf shoes worn on what used to be called astroturf. The shoes with tons of those little black dots on the soles. They left black streaks on the court. Spring practice was very physical back then. We had full speed blocking and tackling in the court when it was too snowy to practice at the Rubber Bowl.
  18. Do we know if it's Safford (again) and/or Medley?
  19. Like most recruits, I would take that 6-3 with a grain of salt. As for need, there are rumblings on their board they have had some backcourt injuries that could be season-ending. They may just need bodies. As for eligibility, ask Ali Ali.
  20. Any tidbits worth sharing for those of us unlikely to ever read it?
  21. I believe New Albany is ranked in the top 20 nationally by USCA. Cleveland St Ignatius is top 5.
  22. 2 of the Zips 2026 recruits are mentioned in this article from the Columbus Dispatch. https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/high-school/soccer/2025/10/08/ohio-high-school-boys-soccer-player-of-year-vote-columbus-ohsaa/86358155007/ Cal DeWalt, Dublin Jerome A senior center back and leader of the Celtics’ stout defense, the Akron commit has contributed to eight shutouts and assisted one goal. Jerome is 6-0-2 in its eight shutouts. Londen Sears, New Albany A senior forward and midfielder who has committed to Akron, Sears has 11 goals and 12 assists for an Eagles team that is ranked first statewide in Division II, second regardless of division and is top-seeded in the district in pursuit of its second consecutive state championship.
  23. The Zips football team seems to be only program in college athletics that has any sort of academic standard held against them in the year of 2025.
  24. I found and bought Huggins' book "Pressed for Success" at a Goodwill the other day. It's an interesting read for Zips fans.
  25. I'm not subscribed to the Ohio State Golden Flashes Beacon Journal, but this quote is certainly something from PCCC's press release. "When we came back to campus this fall, we saw a real need for help in the backcourt and were fortunate that through our contacts to find that [heck of a job on the grammar and proof reading, PCCC] Omer was available and wanted to come to the United States for college," said coach Senderoff. What a vote of confidence that is for the pre-existing backcourt. 22 year old freshman with very limited pro experience. He played in the Israel-Winner League last year: Games - 14 Minutes Per Game - 3.4 Points Per Game - 0.6 Total Points Scored - 6 2P - 1/6 (16.7%) 3P - 1/6 (16.7%) 6'3" is decent size, but if these stats are supposed to be a big improvement to what they think they already have, ooooooof.
