  1. MAC Championship appearances last 10 seasons: Akron: 8 Ohio: 3 Buffalo: 3 Kent: 2 CMU: 1 WMU: 1 Miami: 1 UT: 1 MAC Titles last 10 seasons: Akron: 3 Ohio: 2 Buffalo: 2 Kent: 1 WMU: 1 Miami: 1 This season we're 26-8 with a top 40 RPI, go undefeated at home, regular season champs, and lose on a buzzer beater in the Final and some of you guys want to fire Dambrot and/or the coaches. This site used to be good. I'm frustrated as hell too, but this is pure stupidity. I guess we should grab a guy that, IF he's successful with bolt town with the first success he has? And replace the guy (who is likely staying until he retires) who puts us in a spot to win the championship every single year? Stop. Just stop.

  2. REBOUNDS REBOUNDS REBOUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bulls had a 39-26 advantage and even more telling 11-3 offensive rebound advantage. Constantly let Bulls get inside position - when a shot went up, they had 1-2 guys crashing down the lane to get rebounds. uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!! We win this game by double digits if rebounds are anywhere close.

  3. RPI was given as the reason for why Michigan State wasn't a 1. It matters, but only when the selection committee decides it does. For the big boys.

  4. I love that we all want more for this program. That we are frustrated with a tough loss last night. That we had another great season and its not over. That we are frustrated with the ncaa selection process. THAT we are and can be excited about next year. We have a great program and would not change a thing. If we had sweet 16 appearance a few yrs ago then suffer the lows of the other program we would be having the same angst this year. I see KD teams getting better every year.

  6. I am happy with KD but unfortunately I believe we are limited to the conference we are in. The lack of respect the MAC Conference gets on a national stage is the problem. I honestly wish we had the option to bail like VCU & George Mason did leaving the Colonial Athletic Association

  7. Get rid of Dambrot and we go back to a team that doesn't even win a MAC tournament game. You want a new coach, who? We have a good coach who wants to be here and we are near the top of the MAC every year. KD leaves, so does that.

  10. I believe KD has been on record saying that those payday games are available, he is just too stubborn to take them.

  11. Highest RPI ever this year. That makes it pretty impossible for someone to argue your claim.

  12. It hurts more, just like it hurt on the Plano shot, or the loss to Ohio U on a disputed tip shot. However, I also experienced the championship against Kent when Zeke blocked 10 shots and was named MVP, and the other 2 championships. I also experienced a great come back this year against Eastern Michigan this year when half of this board gave up on the Zips. KD has brought good basketball to Akron. With that comes highs and lows. It is better to enjoy the highs and suffer from the last point losses than not care at all.

  13. This shouldn't be a surprise to anybody. ESPN, a couple years ago, paid a huge amount of money to air the NIT. The games are based on what brings in the most money (attendance/TV audience). Akron@OSU accomplishes that from ESPN's perspective. I don't see an issue with that, either. This is a consolation tournament. If ESPN wants to make the tournament economically viable, then ESPN has the right to set it up so it's also economically viable for them.

  14. I hate to be an optimist but I hope the NCAA will give us a home game against Ohio State. Our RPI is 34 and we just lost the tournament final on a last second shot. Ohio State has a RPI of 74 and lost by 27 in the quarterfinals of their tournament. Most importantly, I think the sell out at Kent State, the small arena atmosphere, and the enthusiasm we had at the Kent State game may persuade ESPN that a game in Akron may make for better TV than a half empty arena at Ohio State. I believe Ohio State coming to Akron would be great for the program and would be a sellout. A win against the Buckeyes would be even better.

  15. Sam Amico ‏@AmicoHoops 6m6 minutes ago Sure wish one-bid leagues would end conference tourneys. Punishing teams that got it done all year in favor of one that got hot for 3 days.

  16. Interesting. What a surprise that would be!

  17. Sure, lets bring back a former assistant, who is still an assistant, never been a head coach, and has been a part of a program that's been heading downward annually for the last 4 seasons. I can't help it. I need some therapy today after the weekend's events, and typing and venting is making me feel better

  19. Okay, well, to be fair, 330 does bring up some good points. I'm not sure how much this has gotten around but I have heard that there were some things outside of the shoulder that contributed to his absence.

  20. i like kd (not crazy about his sub patterns but...) & firing him is absurd....but how many yrs have 'we' been in this spot knowing full well the ncaa will take 7 big ten teams and crap on the mac...the mac as a whole has proven itself tourney worthy/competitive & kd is dead on...replace akron with tulsa or cincy and there is no debate...they'd be in

  21. but AKRON is a destination spot!!!!!!!!!!!! per Zip Nation!

  22. "KD has gotten you to the MAC final, repeatedly!! Why are you not happy with that?????" bc..in my OPINION...it hasn't translated into a ncaa tourney run...so many mac teams have had that taste of fame/glory...from ball st back in early 90s thru ksu to ou in 2012.....we have not..and in my OPINION a ncaa tourney run garners MORE respect...21+ wins over 11 straight yrs is great but again...what has it gotten akron? nothing

  23. If our name was Memphis or VCU and we had the exact same resume with the exact same schedule we'd have a good chance of an at-large. That is not the fault of any coaches, that falls more on the media and the marketing of the team by both the university and the conference. I respect viewpoints opposed to mine and understand that maybe my perception is different than some since the Zips won something like 35 games total in my four years at the school but I still think that we are better off now than we would be with just about anyone else at the helm. I don't want some coach that views Akron as a stepping stone. I want one that sees it as a destination. Who is the better than KD that would fall into that category?

  25. Congrats to Coach Oats and the Bulls. What he did as a first year head coach AND losing two of his best players (and some recruits too, IIRC) is outstanding. He also seems to be classy as well. I caught him stop celebrating and go out of his way to tell Coach Dambrot good game. Regarding the game, we played good in spurts, but not good consistently enough to win. We looked straight bad at times. I would have liked to see Big Dog get some calls to go to the line a few times, but that's just how they were calling the game last night. They let both teams play. The Buffalo guards played well and hit the big shot at the end.

  27. Has anyone ever seen what some of the "big schools" draw from NIT games? When they don't want to be there? If we play OSWho, and attendance and money are the goal of the NCAA, they'd be better served to put the game at the JAR. We'd pack the place !! And we should get the home game anyway, based on the rankings of the two teams, which isn't even close.

  28. When I first starting reading this, it seemed like Sarcasm. By the end, I think you're really serious. Ok, lets look at the facts. I guess someone can have whatever opinion they want, but to say that his postseason record is "terrible" is factually incorrect. Without trying to look it up, I know that he's won a lot more postseason games than he's lost at Akron. They even made a point to talk about it on the broadcast of our game on Thursday.

  31. From the first game of the year to the last the problems were the same.... Live by the 3, die by the 3 Can't stop dribble penetration Get crushed on the boards It's a shame for Jake and Reggie. Too bad for them that Pat couldn't focus on basketball and didn't put the team first. Pats selfishness off the court cost the team in a big way.

  32. I agree. Kwan had a bad last game. But this was there 3rd game in 3 days. Last year we may some dumb plays in our game with Buffalo and KD indicated that playing multiple games can make you tired not only physically, but also mentally. One of Kwan's worst games this year was at Green Bay at the end of a long road swing. He wanted to have a good game tonight and just lost it mentally on offense. Hopefully, he will grow from the experience. We will need him if we are going to made a run in the NIt.

  33. We had every chance there to extend and keep our lead. Buffalo went cold but instead of building a lead we left the door wide open for them which we paid for. Looking back i can think of so many things that would've changed the outcome had they gone differently yet none of them did. This one really, really stings. Some losses just leave you sad and others leave you angry. This was definitely the latter.

  34. This loss was a team effort. Give Kwan a break. Let's not forget that his defensive resurgence is the reason why we had such a successful season

  35. Kwan should be able to drive the lane and pick up fouls rather than taking bad outside shots.

  36. We could still have our best post-season tourney performance ever with a run in the NIT, but I don't have much confidence in that happening. And Buffalo will get smoked in the NCAA.

  37. Nothing to wait for. That was a done deal before the season ever started.

  38. What a joke. You lose the most important game, the only game of the season that really matters...to a team you beat twice in the regular season.

  39. What a huge mistake to foul there with 10 seconds difference on the shot clock. If you are going to waste a foul you don't do it like that and it just cost Akron a shot to get the last shot. Horrible end to a great season.

  40. ROFLMAO Its all about putting butts in the tournament seats. No one, and I mean no one on the selection committee gives a damn about who you beat. Follow the money. Power Five schools dominate because that is where the money is. That is why you could see a P5 team that got waxed in OOC play and finish 8-10 in conference get a bid over a 26-8 MAC team that lost the MAC championship game. Change the rules so that P5 conferences are limited to FIVE bids and watch the shenanigans disappear. No more schlock <gag> Michigan RPI 179 beating an Indiana RPI 5 in a Pig Ten post season tournament. Once P5 schools have to compete instead of a wink and a hand shake, you will see REAL post season basketball. Groce would be updating his resume instead of basking in a victory <choke> over Iowa. P5 schools learned the hard way to not let the Butler's, VCU's and others get deep in the tourney. Simply do not schedule the Akron's and Iona's, Keep the two tier system and keep the money in the P5 world. p.s. Heard from a reliable source that if the Zips lose the MAC championship game their next game is a loss in Columbus. Book it, Danno. (from the hit TV series Hawai'i 5-0 of past generations) p.s.s I do not give a damn about what Michigan or Indiana's RPI are. I made those numbers up. Sorry, wonks, pee down your other leg.
