  1. I'm not saying that everything is perfect, I just get frustrated when people call out the ROWDIES leadership, for all of the attendance woes, here and anywhere else. Those students are the ones that are trying. They should be applauded. It is easy to forget that the ROWDIES is not run by athletics and their leaders are not university employees. Everything they do is entirely volunteer work done because they love UA.

  2. Just wait until they add a 4th hippity hop ball to the dot race. I hear they're contemplating real ducklings for the duck toss too. Those will bring the people in.

  3. Thanks for sharing your input. Not sure I agree with everything you've said was or is done, but it takes some dedication to try and lead that group.

  4. If that's the case, I'm truly saddened. Really pathetic. Thanks for sharing this information. EDIT: Then I have another idea. Give those wrist bands out to ANYONE who wants a damn floor seat. I bet there are some of us in our 50's and 60's who would really have fun hanging out with the Rowdies for a game. And we aren't going to care if they are part of the "cool crowd" or the "uncool crowd"

  5. If I were a student, this word would drive me away from that section. I would hand out black bandannas as the only Roo Zoo "gear," and tell the students - "Here's your front row seat. Now show me how to be obnoxious, have fun and give the Zips a home court advantage!" Nothing choreographed...just get a bunch of kids going bonkers and being obnoxious.

  6. Uh, oh, Balsy. The Cavs called your bluff Goodyear reaches agreement with Cavs to place patch on jerseys (Wonder if the contract stipulates "We get out of the contract when LeBron retires,"? ) The Cavs are believed to be the fifth NBA team to reach agreement on a sponsorship patch, joining the Philadelphia 76ers, Sacramento Kings, Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets. The NBA is beginning a three-year trial program next season that includes sponsorship patches on jerseys, an initiative Adam Silver has supported since taking over as the NBA’s commissioner. (BOLD mine.) I hadn't considered this... The deal is a victory for Goodyear, particularly with Akron native LeBron James back in Cleveland. The defending champions are on national television nearly 30 times a season. James and Kyrie Irving consistently rank as two of the league’s top jerseys in sales annually. ...the patch will, naturally, be included on all replica jersey sales.

  9. I believe they left the CAA in 2013/14. That conference is by no means better then the MAC. You are right that the run made a huge difference at the school. It is cool now to go to VCU. Prior to that, VCU was identical to where Akron is now. Commuter school, where you went when Tech or UVA didn't take you. Point is...it can happen! I still like watching the Zips play more than VCU though. Hate that havoc style.

  10. VCU plays in a vastly more high profile conference, has made the NCAA tournament 9x in the past 13 years, and has made a Final 4 appearance. Akron meanwhile is waiting for their 1st NCAAT win. Once Akron basketball reaches the level of VCU basketball we'll have a vibrant student section too.

  11. I would have voted loss on this game 2 weeks ago, but EMU wheels have fallen off and the Zips have been playing much better defense since the start of the 2nd half of NIU.

  12. I can't wait to see him run this year. Glad to hear the NCAA got it right.

  14. Instead of a patch, they should put wings on the players shoes.

  15. You are right. I was wrong to criticize. I should light a candle instead of cursing the darkness. Who should I send one of these to?

  17. Interested to see what happens when a big time player has a sponsorship conflict and doesn't want to wear the uniform with the conflicting company logo on it.

  18. Stumbled upon this podcast of Dambrot. It was done after the NIU game but before Ohio. Really doesn't provide anything new. He just states what many of us already believe. This team only plays defense when it has to and the key for it to succeed come Cleveland and potentially the NCAAT is if the Zips buy into playing the full 40 minutes at both ends of the court. http://www.collegeinsider.com/mp3/Dambrot_02022017082207.mp3

  19. Didn't you just post that new students tried to get theme nights going and the older Rowdies folks shut them down? Let it happen

  20. Eastern plays the match up zone where once we get the ball into Big Dog it was one on one with their center. Their guards stay out on the perimeter and the forwards stay in the corner. I look for Big Dog to have a Big night tonight. I am hoping to see more Dunn Martin as he has been playing well. If KD theory is that playing time is earned and not given, Dunn Martin should be playing close to 20 minutes. I watched KD's show and he thinks that Josh is going to have a great last part of the season. I hope he is right. It was great that Josh had a couple of drives to the basket last game but mainly he is a 3 point shooter. If he could start shooting the 3 ball above 40% it would really help the team especially against the zone tonight.

  24. ...You don’t have to follow college soccer at all to know the impact the University of Akron has had in Major League Soccer in recent years. Just rattling off a short list of names you’d recognize will tell you everything you need to know. Names like DeAndre Yedlin, Darlington Nagbe, Wil Trapp, Scott Caldwell, Darren Mattocks, Zarek Valentin and Kofi Sarkodie, who have all found success since entering the league dating back to 2010....
