  2. I thought the Zips had great offensive energy in the first half, but played minimal defense. And blew way too many bunnies. Ivey and Josh stood out in half #1. Once we were down 11, Kwan got visibly pissed off. He was a different player from there on out, as was Big Dog. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you get the incentive to fight back. I thought this might have been Kwan's best game as a Zip. He did what senior all MAC players are supposed to do...take over the game in the 2nd half. The crowd really didn't want to see the home win streak end tonight. Kudos to them for stepping up. Noah needs to pick it up on the offensive end. No excuse for scoring zero points until the final couple minutes. Too many missed bunnies and open looks. DesssssperateToledoooo...why don't you come to your senses...you been chasin' those Zipses...since Humpty broke your heart...You got heart ache...and it will continue at The Q...if indeed you make it to The Q.... make it to THE Q....I hope you make it to The Q....where we'll whip your butt... Drive home safely everyone.

  3. As UA career winds down, Kwan Cheatham continues to improve, which bodes well for March and beyond A human interest, non-pregame and/or postgame Zips story from the Akron Beacon Journal!!! “There’s guys that deserve to be successful. This guy deserves to be successful,” Dambrot said. “It just took a while for it to all come.”

  5. I remember going to the "ballet" on Main Street, that was a juice bar, anything went, after a Zips vs. Western Illinois game in the DII era (don't EVEN bring up my age!) and upon arrival, seeing my ex-High School sweetheart dancing nude....what a win, and what a night!

  6. Besides Noah's shots not falling, I felt he played decent. In the last 2 games he has combined for 11 assists to go with 1 turnover. Last night he held Toledo's leading scorer to 4/16 from the field.

  7. I thought this game was well played even when the Zips were down in the second half. I was disappointed in the way we open the game in that our first 10 shots were all 3 balls. We need to establish an inside game playing the ball through Dog. In the beginning of the 2nd half we had open looks but could not make a basket. I thought Noah and Josh played great defense. Toledo made some nice shots but they were not on dribble penetration. In the first half their center was too quick for Big Dog. I would have liked to see more of Utomi but it was not to be. I thought Kwan had a great game. When we were down by 11 he out muscled a Toledo player and then made a layup and and a 3 point play. Our starters and Josh really played well in the clutch. The team did a great job of getting the ball to Big Dog during our run and Toledo could not stop him. Somebody mentioned that when the crowd is going wild that the contest actually quiet the crowd. It happened tonight. The place was roaring and everybody shut up to watch them collect boxes and find Zippie. Finally, I thought the refs did a great job. Very few whistles tonight until the end of the game. The refs let the guys play and there was a little bumping but it went both ways. The refs called traveling very closely on both teams. Great game to watch with the crowd getting into it. Now we have to beat Kent on Friday. Go Zips!!!

  8. They are likely to be on the other side of the bracket and are as equally likely to get upset as they are to make the final.

  9. Awful first half. Dog has been exploited on the defensive end.

  10. Former Zips QB and owner of LeafFilter and Kaulig Racing was on "The Morning Drive" SiriusXM, Nascar channel 90. The introduced him as former Akron Zip's Qb. They spent a good part of the begging of the segment talking Zips football. Matt talked about being recruited by Jerry Faust. He also talked about the program being in a good place under Terry Bowden and about winning the Potato Bowl. You can listen to this on demand if you have a SiriusXM account. For those of you that don't know, LeafFilter has been a sponsor in the Nascar Nationwide series since 2015. In 2016 Matt start his own team, Kaulig Racing that fields the 11 car. They actually made it to the playoffs and advanced to the 2nd round last year. Kaulig Racing has a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing who fields the 3 car in the Cup series formally driven by the legend Dale Earnhardt sr.

  11. Each member is allowed 19.5 MB of space to drag or place files/images in their post. You can see this at the bottom of you post after hitting reply. Some members have noticed that they are near, or out of space. It is up to each member to manage their own space. Every member is able to create space by going to your name in the upper right and selecting "My Attachments." There is a garbage can icon on the righthand side of each attachment. A member is able to delete an attachment that is no longer relevant, to create more space. When you do so, anywhere the attachment was used will then contain a broken image or link. Pay attention to the size, the bigger attachment you delete, (obviously) the more room you will create. Good luck.

  13. As a Zips QB, Matt might be best known to us "veterans" as the guy who stepped in for an injured Marcel Weems in the final game of the season in 1992 to lead us to a road victory at Cincinnati. As most of you know, that win gave Gerry and the boys their 7th win of the season that year, and that 7-3-1 record still stands today as the best win/loss percentage season in our D1-A history.

  14. I am not good at Common Core, but there are 5 games remaining. If we win two, we can only have 4 losses. That locks up the NIT, #1 seed, and MAC season championship. BUT, we play Buffalo. If we beat them, they have at least 6 losses and we could only have 5, so that eliminates them. And if OU loses one game in that scenario, they are eliminated. In any case, Buffalo and OU still play each other, meaning one of them MUST have 6 losses. That means that ONE win gets us to at least a tie breaker for #1. With our only loss being to OU, that makes it interesting. But any combination of one win over Buffalo and BU over OU locks it up, or we can do it on Tuesday with two wins.

  15. Suggestion to Zips Marketing Team: When the good guys go on a huge run, have the opponent on the ropes and they call a time out, do NOT silence the crowd with silly contests during said time out. Maybe limit the contests to the scheduled media time outs?

  16. I don't know whether or not anyone had them going 12-1, but I distinctly remember several people saying this would be one of Dambrot's worst teams ever and no way we get to 21 wins. Hell we still have people that act like a 4 point halftime deficit is an insurmountable deficit. Its like have you not watched this team all season? Winning nail biters is what we do.

  17. Your are right! I just thought the path would be somewhat easier being seeded 8th rather than 14th in the NCAA tournament.

  18. Up 4 with 5 games to play. Buffalo and OU (both 4 games back) are the only teams that can mathematically catch us. Everyone else is 6 games back, or more. One more Akron win guarantees a tie. Two more Akron wins guarantees outright Regular Season Title. I don't think we need to look at any other scenarios. I think we have near insurmountable odds of winning at least 2 of our last 5 games.

  19. Zips rally behind Kwan Cheatham to drop Rockets It’s safe to say that the slump that hit Cheatham for a three-game stretch is over. He lifted the Zips high enough on his shoulders to give them an opportunity to win. At one point, the Rockets (13-13, 6-7 in MAC) were beating the Zips in every significant offensive category to take an 11-point lead midway through the second half. Then Cheatham went to work...

  20. Was worried we might have no winners tonight but thankfully the Zips came back. The trio of Big Dog, Josh and Jimond (18, 8 and 6 for 32) were edged by Kwan, Antino and Noah (21, 13 and 2 for 36). Attendance as recorded by ESPN and reported by UAZippers was 3,365 so the people who got the Zips win, the Kwan, Antino, Noah trio and the middle attendance include zippyfan34, clarkgriswold, UAZippers, bigzipguy, ZIPSMOM2, ziptrumpet87, ejcool, Jalapeno Zippy, zippy_ua_00, lilroodude and MDZip. Congrats but everyone wins when the Zips win.

  24. Keith just said in the postgame that Terry wanted to pull him before those one-and-ones, but Keith wanted him to stay in. He said something like....He's going to need to make those shots down the stretch, and he wants to show him he has confidence in him.

  34. Thanks for the explanation. That makes as much sense understanding this as anything. The luck rating reminds me of how "lucky" Sandy Koufax and Bob Gibson were because every time they pitched the other team had a bad day at the plate. Pure luck.
