  1. I think the ESPN3 broadcasts may also hurt attendance. Video is better than ever and casual fans sit at home where they can eat/drink and not have to come in person. Also, I’m not sure anyone currently connects with the students the way Caleb Porter did. Opponents may have found him arrogant, brash, cocky, but I think our fans loved his attitude and confidence. I admit besides winning the national championship, one of the greatest moments in Zips Mens Soccer history was when the 4th official rolled up his flag and went home in the elite 8 match vs Cal due to Caleb. You just can’t get that kind of excitement watching at home.

  4. Poke will be on the top 10 in the country in: blocked shots per minute played; percentage of points from dunks; and fouls per minute.

  8. Pac-12 does not have a conf tournament. Stanford's final game is a regular-season game against Cal on Nov.9. Stanford's schedule is weak, only one game against the RPI top-25 (a win over SMU). That's why their RPI is only #13. So I don't see them as a top-4 seed.

  9. I don't know about Stanford's schedule the rest of the way....but I think they will be a top 4 seed if they win out. Indiana will be a top 4 seed if they win the B1G. I do not see Akron being a top 4 seed..the loss to Utah Valley is an absolute killer I hope I am wrong

  12. This says, "We don't think Akron is good enough to challenge for the East title". Looks like we still need a couple more good wins to convince them otherwise. I hope we can get it done.

  13. Can you elaborate? Even player-by-player? What'd you see? We have ZERO media coverage.

  15. That is one of the sweetest goals I have seen. The cross, the touch on the header and volley out of the air. Goal of the year!!! Absolutely beautiful!!

  16. Wow, You just brought back a 35 year old U of A memory for me. Thanks. Now I can run and tell my wife that I really don't have Early Onset Alzheimer's .

  17. I chose Pitt. I'll admit, once the questions became too mundane and monotonous I just started picking "no difference" as if I was filling out C's with a number 2 pencil on a Western Cult test

  18. Should Zips win the MAC Tournament (like we all hope they do), they will be right on the cusp of top 8 seed, depending on what other teams do. I am just re-phrasing your words. God, I am nervous about this weekend!

  19. Something that I've noticed is a decreased presence on the Men's Soccer social media accounts. Hardly ever anything on Facebook and not nearly as much as past seasons on Twitter. I don't know how much that would help but it couldn't hurt.

  20. I hear that. That WAS our offense in that Buffalo game. Period. Without it, we aren't talking about sitting on the doorstep of a MAC East title right now. Just look back. Maybe to the breakout offensive performance 2 years ago at Louisiana Lafayette. We've had our greatest successes going for big plays with Woodson at QB. There have been times where we died offensively also. I guess it's like being a team that relies on a lot of 3-point shots in basketball. And Terry has always had that "throw the ball downfield" tendency. Three weeks from now, I hope I can say that it helped us this year, instead of failing us. Because it ain't goin away, Dadgummit !!

  21. I would guess Olojakpoke and Kostelac. They are the two others that have experience playing at a level above high school (only slightly above in Kostelac's case). I believe Utomi will start at the 3, but play the majority of the game at the 4 as the Zips are super short on front court players.

  22. I stand corrected. Kudos for being open-minded enough to attend in spite of not being soccer fans.

  23. I'm surprised that it's 5 points. I thought it might be a field goal, or less.

  24. It's great to see WMU doing well. It gives us two more solid RPI games per season and adds credibility to MAC soccer. The most fans ever was under 6k, not between 6 and 7k. I think fans not showing up for UA games like they have in the past is due to a handful of things: 1) The program has already succeeded to the pinnacle...a National Championship. Unless another one of those is imminently obvious to the casual fan, it's just another season. 2) Embick does not have the bulldog-instigator personality that Porter does. Charisma matters. How awesome was it to see Porter essentially pick fights with the B1G teams (especially OSU, Michigan, and PSU) and then take them to the woodshed on the field? Coming from Akron, we all have a chip on our shoulder and whether intentional or not, Porter played right into this. "We will play anyone, anytime, anywhere." 3) The local media and social media have not created a buzz throughout the local community. 4) The viewing opportunities are now so good via ESPN3. I've watched every game from my living room in MD. I miss the atmosphere of FE Stadium - CC Field, but living in another state, ESPN3 is an unprecedented option. 5) The early losses to apparently no-named programs on the road to start the season were a buzz kill. Utah Valley and Denver have had much success in recent seasons, and Embick is fully justified in scheduling them for RPI purposes, but the casual fan does not have this advanced knowledge and the corresponding appreciation. The US not participating in the World Cup does not have anything to do with college soccer. If anything, the strengthening of MLS enhances the college game because of serving as feeder programs much like college basketball and football. MLS has also given better opportunities to players from throughout CONCACAF, and the success of other CONCACAF countries is a reflection of MLS. This is overlooked by those who think the USMNT sucks and under-performed. They definitely under-performed, but the quality of their competition was as good as it has ever been.

  26. I hope you are all well. I certainly have much to be thankful for these days. After seeing just a bit of practice, I'm now also thankful that my friends and fellow Zips hoops fans won't be disappointed by the upcoming season. It's been some time since I could say that about ZN.O. Go Zips!

  27. The season is now officially over for WSOC, but it ended brightly, as the team battled a very good Buffalo team to a 2-2 double overtime draw. Rachel Bachman scored about half way through the match and Buffalo equalized just before half. Bachman hit again just past 50 minutes gone but Buffalo equalized 30 seconds later. Rylie Howman and Kiki got assists and Jiu was very active in goal and had several great saves. In fact she's the first Zipper GK to record 100 or more saves in a season, and she's just a freshman. So, a win over Miami, followed by double OT draws with the top team from the West Ball State and the third best team in the East Buffalo to finish the season with a 3 match unbeaten streak. Not too shabby. Not great, but they didn't roll over and play dead after the long losing streak. And only 1 senior leaving. These women are not afraid to take the ball to the net and are beginning to learn how to give it as good as they take it physically. 2018 is a long way off, but I think this will be a MAC Tournament team in 2018. Z.I.P and I were both wrong on our predictions for the record....
