  1. If only there was an easy way to see who the better team is

  2. I saw them whining about a potential 5 loss Akron team making the MAC Championship game. Let's compare out of conference schedules shall we? They played Hampton we played Arkansas pine-bluff I'll call that a wash. Their Big Ten opponent was Purdue we got Penn State. Their Big 12 opponent was the worst P5 team in all of college football we drew a team that barely missed their championship game. Our last out-of-conference opponent was Troy who beat LSU is 8-2 and is probably going to win the Sun Belt. Ohio's last out-of-conference opponent was 3 and 7 U Mass. Let's swap out of conference schedules and see exactly how good the Bobcats would be because our MAC records are exactly the same. #FUOU #Tenyears

  5. Based on what I've seen so far this half, I think Woodson is done and Nelson is your starter for the season (and beyond).

  6. This game scares me. Our rival with a MAC-C bid, and even possibly a bowl bid on the line, as I'm not ready to say we are guaranteed for anything with the current numbers presented in the bowl watch thread. Numerous cases of let downs after big wins this season in College Football. OSU vs Iowa, Toledo vs Ohio, and heck maybe even Ohio vs us come to mind right away. Last night was the time to celebrate but now its time to concentrate on Kent. They would love nothing more than to potentially ruin our season and take the Wagon Wheel back. We better be ready to bring it. Get focused and kick ass! It's 12:40..........

  7. There are four of us with the right guesses on Ball and Chapman - @zzx, @Lee Adams, @Aaron, and @blueandgold. Surprisingly, between the four of us, we cover all possibilities on wins and sack totals. There WILL be a winner as long as Chapman stays leading receiver: zzx - 7+ wins, 20+ sacks Lee Adams - 6- wins, 19- sacks Aaron - 6- wins, 20+ sacks blueandgold - 7+ wins, 19- sacks Good luck and Go Zips!

  8. This shouldn't even be a decision. I take it soemwhere you saw or heard it was over? There is no way in hell I'd let TW start, and even if it is Senior Night, if he comes and participates with his family - fine. But Kato should start, and the players I think would back that. I know nothing about how any of the players feel about this, or how they feel about Kato, but boy, that would take a lot of air out pof my sails to see TW as the starter vs. KSU.

  9. Not a whole helluva lot I can add to all the other great commentary here and on the Three for Thursday thread.....but just a few items. I am the KING of the board on complaining about penalties, so I had a field day last night....even if half of them weren't "really" penalties. 175 yards in penalties! Yet we won. I did post on 3For that I thought we'd win, and the reason I picked was because we'd have a week to get the game plan in place for Kato. But the way we won was unexpected to me. Come from behind? The Zips? Don't give it away in the end? The Zips? But we won. The Defense was stellar, against the run. But the Interference calls were mostly legit, and I, like many, was holding my breath on that final OU pass that it wasn't going to be called yet again. When I got to the stadium and saw that Woodson wasn't even listed as the #2 QB I felt good, but after OU's first two plays I felt horrible. And Stolich pulled out all the trick plays rather than Bowden, and most all of them worked. But we won. The OU fans that were there last night, especially on the roads leading to the stadium and in the parking lots were total Buttheads. I almost had a little road rage incident with one who was following their team buses and felt he should be part of the police escorted caravan! But the fine Campus Police force set the gentleman straight. Talking to some of the athletes from other sports at The U on my way in and most all of them know what Tommy did to get suspended, and I won't post it because it's second hand knowledge. But it's all over campus, and I can't see anyway Williams will let this one go. He's not going to get the Josh Gordon umpteen chances. Suffice it to say it wasn't his first go around on this one. I also, despite lucking out and picking this one right, also have a little crow to eat with my friends on the board - because of Kato. I was very low on Kato, and said so from the Spring game on. Good for you young man, you really proved me wrong last night, and I don't think it was a fluke. And the offensive line, or the play calling, or the defense they played against...I don't know...but we ran the ball and there seemed to be some decent holes open for them. Don't agree that we stopped running in the second half. Didn't see that. And as far as our illustrious supposed-journalists from Akron and Cleveland, I was walking in behind them last night and they were both grousing already about how late it was going to be , how UA was gonna get steamrolled, laughing about the size of the crowd and what would be announced as the attendance....all kinds of crap like that, so it wouldn't surprise me if they did write their reports from a couch, except they were actually there. I normally am in a hurry to get to the car after a weeknight game and get the heck home, but last night I surprised myself as to wanting to kinda hang around. I stayed and stood in the gauntlet with family and friends as the team and coached crossed from the stadium to the fieldhouse, enjoyed the looks on the kids faces and the parents too! Pride. Then got caught in the band marching out of the stadium, but instead of being impatient and annoyed, I actually stopped and enjoyed it. Heck, what's the difference between 11:30 and 11:45 getting home. Can't remember feeling that way since...well in a long time. Fun. We won. But we won. Still sinking in. I guess I had more than a few things to add! Sorry!

  10. Whew......Finally posting my thoughts as I got home near midnight last night. Burning this first hour of work to read over this thread is worth it. I'll have to make some time at lunch to read the mental breakdown over on bobcatattack Where to start: Kato obviously played great. He was cerebral running the O. Night and day compared to last week. What a huge and gutsy run to seal the game with that final first down. I am excited for him for the future. The offensive line played great as well. I hardly noticed any pressure at all on Kato during his drop backs and I don't believe he was sacked at all. I've always been a fan of Woody, but I am done with him, and it has nothing to do with Kato's performance last night. If you are a senior QB and F up during the last 3 weeks of the season when your team is fighting for its best overall record in history/MAC Championship/Bowl bid, and your F up is SO bad that you are not suspended 1 week, but multiple weeks, I just have no respect for you and cannot defend you. I would have to imagine the AD/Coaching staff is done with him as well, as if it wasn't a 1 week suspension I would imagine it will be for the rest of the season. It's a shame he threw it all away. Defense scared the hell out of me in the first quarter. Couldn't stop OU at all. But we tightened up some in the 2nd and then really seemed to shut OU down in the 2nd half, even down to starters. Speaking of being down 2 starters... Featherstone AND George played phenomenal games. PHENOMENAL. Both of these guys are back up safeties remember. I said early in the season that we had 2 starting caliber players ready to take over at they've shown that. I didn't think the Davis and Camara targeting penalties were legit, but they don't show replays at the stadium. Seems they were rightfully called based on this thread. Davis wasn't playing great anyways, and he really needs to get that under control. Special teams was horrid. I feel like OU could have blocked our punt every time if they wanted. It was always close. Our kickoff coverage left a lot to be desired and the botched extra point almost cost us. I don't hold it against Featherstone much as he is the back up punt returner, but dang he made me nervous. Coney is much more sure handed and smooth, but it looked like he had a collarbone issue to me and is probably out the rest of the season, maybe he can make it back for the bowl game. I thought the offense looked a little different with Kato back there this week. Spiced up in a good way with some motions and what not. I saw some complaint about the 3 and out drive with just under 6 minutes to go deep in their territory. You absolutely have to run your normal O there up 3 with 6 mins left when they have 3 timeouts. It just didn't work out there. Dailey struggled.....I'm not sure if all 3 of his DPI's should have really been called. The refs seemed to be calling it really tight against us. Something to note though is that he was left on an island. Featherstone seemed up close to the line (presumably to help with the run game) more often than not, leaving George as the only deep safety. I'm not one to complain about refs much........but geez oh weez was that horrible. Just awful management of the flow of the game and we got ZERO calls, and every ticky-tack call went against us. Trying to discredit these wins to "luck" really pisses me off. We've had plenty of crap go against us these past 2 seasons and I know you all wouldn't be giving Bowden the benefit of the doubt if we were losing close games. You know...like against Troy. Our team has been winning these games on the field. Give them credit. Go Zips! Kent State still sucks! No let down.... Win the MAC!! Oh one last thing....the @Zipmeister is alive!

  11. Careful what you wish for, given the chance, the Zips December team will be different from the team the Rockets played in October. Good luck. Like last night, we'll be bringing the turnover chain to Detroit.

  12. I'll give honorable mention to @feetg10 and @g-mann17 for voting that Ouellette would have under 75 yards rushing, and the Zips would win. While I thought the Zips would win, I thought there was little chance the Zips could contain Ouellette the way they did. Just a fantastic effort upfront even after they lost Camara.

  18. I dunno nuthin' 'bout no BigSoccer stuff....but since this is already "a thing" somewhere else.....how about we go 1 for round one, 2 for round two. 3 for round three, 4 for the QFs. 6 for the SFs and 8 for the Champeeeenchip!

  23. We did some stupid things. But when Penalty Yards are 167 to 19....something is wrong. The officials could have ensured that we lost that game. They seemed like they were trying. Before this game was played, how many people here would have said that we had any better than a 1% chance of winning this game if you were told what the penalty yardage was going to be?

  24. The point and weather forecasts show typical November weather right now but meteorologists are talking about a major cold snap and lake effect snow outbreak next week. Timing and exact locations will probably start to come into the picture Friday. Keep your eyes open. I like CBS Sports better, but fewer get that channel and virtually no coverage after a game, so I hope ESPN 2 picks it up. I am expecting to be at Info for the game and anticipating a pretty epic night....which hopefully will get me amped for the long, late night drive home. Like everyone else, we know this game stands on its own. Throw out the records and go to battle, men.

  26. I think we probably need to separate this between what WE think should happen....and what the COACHES will do. Bowden has made it pretty clear for the last 2 years that Woodson is our best option. Maybe he's right. As far as Kato is concerned, he now has had a bad game and a good game. So, I wonder if Terry is now satisfied that he has a game-ready backup, and goes back to his proven starter? But for ME, I think I'd be happy if Kato goes against Kent. If that falls apart, switch back to Woodson for the remainder of game, and the MAC title game and/or Bowl.

  27. Woodson has been Wally Pipped as far as I see it. He sits until Kato proves he can't handle it. Kato had the best game from a Zips QB in some time - in his second ever start in the biggest game of the season.

  30. How 'bout coming to the game??????????????

  31. There are currently 77 teams that are .500 or better or already bowl eligible. There are 40 bowl games, so 80 teams are needed. We are going bowling no matter what. There are MAC affiliate bowls that are guaranteed to MAC Champ and Runner-up and next two best teams. We will likely end up in 1 of the 4 MAC Primary bowls, (Bahamas, Potato, Raycom, Dollar General) if we beat Kent. If we end up in the Dollar General Bowl I know GP1 will be out there smiling somewhere.

  32. We have to stay focused and move onto next week. Akron's going to come in confident, perhaps a little too much, against a Kent team that doesn't have much left to play for but would love to spoil our season. We have to make sure we don't look past them.

  33. Welcome back. And add, "The second play from scrimmage for Ohio would be a 68 yard quarterback run for a touchdown."

  34. If someone told me before the game that Akron would miss an extra point, have a punt attempt blocked, allow 34 points, have two players ejected early, and suffer a gazillion yards in penalties, and still win I would have been incredulous. Nice to see the Zips actually look good on national TV. Go Zips

  37. As much as I was pleading with everyone on this board to have "hope" over the last few days, I have to admit the following: 1) When I saw that Kato was our starting QB, my hope faded. 2) When OU scored on their first drive in 2 plays, my hope faded even more. 3) When OU took at early 21-10 lead, I think I lost all hope. 4) When the officials tagged us with about a 10 to 1 margin in penalty yardage, and kicked out 2 of our players, it was official that everything that could go against us was surely going against us. And somehow.......We overcame all of that, and won the game. Wow.

  39. Without what Dambrot accomplished here we probably never land a guy like Groce. He turned a below average to bad MAC program into the class of the MAC and regarded by many a respectable mid-major. Hopefully Groce is the man for us to take that next step.

  40. I'm just so worried about going 5-7 for the umpteenth time under TB. I counted my chickens last year before they hatched and we lost 4 straight and went from 5-3 to 5-7. Only bright side is if it happens is that I won't have any issue with him being fired. 6-6 is sort of a toss up to me. Would prob be fine with whatever direction Larry W. wants to go. 7-5, and MAC champ birth and he keeps his job/few year extension, no more than 3.

  42. How about Mentor HS QB Tadas Tatarunas? A 6'4, 220 lb 2018 QB , on the Mr Ohio Watch list , his team playing St Ignatious next week in the Region 1 D1 final. They upset St Edwards this week. Tatarunas for his 3 year career has approx 8,500 yards passing , 80 TDs, a 3.9 GPA. Has led his team to some dramatic comebacks in the past several weeks, for the season has approx 28 passing TDs and 6 running TDs, w approx 2,800 yards passing. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/3830161/59c6b2d44ba86a0a40d102ef

  43. players today have no idea how to tackle...in my opinion the smaller shoulder pads lead to players using their heads...they launch like missles rather than break down & wrap...i recently watched the 1994 MNF game between denver ( elway) & kc (montana)...steve atwater should be teaching players how to tackle....eddie johnson of the browns too...one of my all time favs...massive pads that he used to tackle...now they all have what were qb pads when i played
