Your posting is pointed and succinct. I like your sentence structure. I love your fervor. You have a distinct voice and it is certainly welcome here. Return often. But you need not ever doubt the devotion of Zip_ME87 to Zips Soccer. He does not need me vouching for him, but I will anyway. Perhaps he did not articulate precisely (this once), but you can always assume he is pulling for the Zips Soccer. No bout a doubt it!3 points

You may not recall some of my previous posts about this over the years. But back in our Akron student days, several of us came up with the name CONDOME3 points

Scoring a lot is a risky strategy since we tend to give up a lot of yardage on the ensuing kickoffs.2 points

Generally, if a team's specialty is shutting down one dimensional offenses, the defense is not very good. I gave up on Brad Detwiler's analysis when he tried to explain to me during the Penn State game that the real difference between the top teams like PSU and teams like Akron was in depth, not in the quality of the starters. At the time, the Zips starters were down 42-0 to the PSU starters.2 points

Hi guys. I'm an FAU fan that's watched all of our games and seen the progression of our team through the season. This is correct in that our running game is substantially better than our passing game. Some teams have tried to shutdown our run by adding an extra safety but it hasn't really worked yet. I think lane understands this so we've been emphazing our passing game all season. And I would agree that we do still lean on our running game, but every week our passing game continues to make huge strides. I think that article is from early November? But since then our passing game has improved dramatically. We don't make many passing plays, maybe 20 the whole game, but our completion rate in November has been 80% or higher. We also rarely throw interceptions - Just four the entire season. Our tempo is killer. We move way faster than the chain crew (they usually run to catch up). This one time we ran 4-5 plays and scored in less than 30 seconds, just imagine how fast we are. And I think what makes it so hard is our offense has a lot of moving parts and trick plays. I think a good way to watch that offense is to look at our conference championship game last week.2 points

Yep. Z.I.P. said he contacted the bowl, and I did the same. In fact, I just got back a message from someone saying that it should have been approved by licensing, and they are going to tell them to take down that image. EDIT: Ok, I see that they've already changed it.2 points

Welcome aboard newbie! We are glad to have your passion for our Zips team and followers. However, you are out of place to ever question the loyalty and confidence board members like Zip-ME87 place in our team. His post was an effort to motivate the team to perform beyond their highest effort of this season -- and I might well believe it succeeded!2 points

Not sure if this will help anyone but being a Philadelphia resident originally from Akron and a big Zips fan I felt the need to pass along some general Philly info for anyone making the trip. I am also a Philadelphia Union season ticket holder so I spend a lot of time at Talen Energy Stadium. I hope we have lots of Zips fans in the building Friday as I will be there and the Browns Backers of Philly is pushing to get some local Zips fans to attend. It's only a 6.5 hour drive from Akron so that's the closest College Cup they have been in. Talen Energy Stadium Info: Beautiful stadium even better than the Crew stadium which some of you are probably familiar with. Great views of the Delaware river, good food options, plenty of free parking close, and good tailgating usually. All that said, the neighborhood stinks. It's actually Chester PA which is 15 minutes south of Philly towards Wilmington Delaware. Very poor and run down neighborhood with no bars or restaurants near by. However the stadium and parking lots are very safe with tons of police all around the area for gameday's. Just make sure you park at the Talen Energy lots and not the neighborhood ones off the ramp. The stadium ones are free all weekend so don't pay any lot! I wanted to warn everyone about the neighborhood but please don't let this stop you from attending. The stadium is one of the best facilities in the MLS. Tickets. Not a bad seat in the entire stadium. . They are also offering a $15 extra ticket to get into the Tru Mark Financial Club. If you want to be inside at times this is a solid option. Still a great view of the stadium and you'll get access to outdoor seats still along with better restrooms, better food options and a nice bar. Philly info: Center City (downtown) is awesome, safe, tons to do and 20 minutes from the stadium. Hotels will be more expensive but you could walk around all weekend outside going to the game. There would also be a ton of great AirBNB options in Center City. If you don't want to go downtown the airport area is the closest to the stadium with reasonably priced hotels. Downside less choices of restaurants near by. You could go Wilmington DE area as prices would be cheaper and you'd have a real easy drive to the stadium up 95. Last hotel area is King of Prussia. Wealthy suburb with the 2nd biggest mall in america and tons of great food options. Also 25 minute drive to the stadium. When we beat Stanford Friday hopefully a lot of fans can stay till Sunday. Some ideas for that Saturday. First Army vs Navy game is in town even if you don't have $200 to go to that game it's a pretty fun day, great tailgating and then just hit a bar. The bar scene is best in center city, on south street, and Fishtown/Northern Liberties. As far as sight seeing, go check out Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell tons of free history stuff to do. Go grab a cheesesteak and see the rocky statue. I know all the generic stuff but it's fun to be a tourist. Lots of good museums also, revolutionary war museum, multiple art musueums, Franklin Institute, and a local favorite the mutter museum. Hope this helped someone, hope you come enjoy this awesome city of Philly and hope to see you at the stadium Friday night. Go Zips!1 point

Yeah were hoping Chester comes around but unfortunately the original plan for a few bars, a grocery store, and some development near the stadium was slated for 2008 when things went south. Union fans love Chester and we do a lot for the community but unfortunately it's been a slow go. It was between not having a MLS team or building in Chester so of course we are glad to have a team and embraced Chester. Check out the Sons of Ben documentary on Netflix if you want to see how our fan group actually is the reason MLS gave us a team. As far as entertainment in chester unfortunately there is seriously none within walking distance of the stadium. Absolutely nothing. However there is a Harrah's casino about 8 minutes down the road that I have pregame'd at for Union games if I don't feel like tailgating. There's some solid food and bar options in there. Other that you need to go back to Philly or Media/Swathmore/Ridley area's are the closest to the stadium with some solid entertainment options.1 point

Maybe I am a little cynical, but I suspect they would not be making such a statement if they were travelling to Boise for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.1 point

I'd think that it would be foolish to think that they might take us more seriously by asking them to only watch what happened in the 4th quarter, and ignoring the events that put Toledo up 38-0 in the first 2-1/2 quarters of the game. And It's probably also foolish for us to try to make a big deal out of what we accomplished in that game long after it was decided, and Toledo had taken their foot off the gas.1 point

I have also heard the radio comments claiming that we've stopped one-dimensional offenses. But if OU is the example, they rushed for 282 yards, at 6.6 per carry, and put 34 points on the board. We were fortunate to score 37 that night, which was very unexpected. So, right now I'm thinking a lot more about what we can do to score near 40 points, rather than resting my hopes on containing an FAU offense that's been scoring a lot of points consistently.1 point

I think the odds makers may have focused more on the fact that the Zips have made a habit of playing only half of many of their games.1 point

I heard Detweiler say that the Zips have been very successful in shutting down one dimension offenses. If the above is the case, we have a much better chance against FAU than we did Toledo. Might be more like playing Western or even Ohio, where we got in Rourke's head, early. We do not have to shut down the run, just stop it enough to force 3rd downs. Back to bend but don't break.1 point

Our freshmen Center Backs are the backbone of this team, to the surprise of everyone except maybe our coaches. These two are very different type players who compliment each other uncannily well. Moutinho is unorthodox and daring. Strachan is fundamental and rock steady. They are ying and yang. There is currently no better tandem in NCAA.1 point
