  1. I posted about how bad the crowd was 5 or 10 minutes before the game (which started this discussion). It then filled in some. The crowd was on the lower end, but I have seen worse. Sub .500 basketball at a 2:00 tip-off isn't likely to get much of a crowd. All in all, it was an entertaining game in large part because the teams were so evenly matched. Unfortunately, that comment is not a positive for either team. On a more important topic, could someone please explain to me why the pep band has "Fat Bottomed Girls" as a part of it regular repertoire which if often plays with the dance team on the floor. It's the equivalent of playing the cavalry charge at the Indians games.

  2. Oh stop. There were worse crowds during Dambrot's cupcake OOC schedule; actually I remember some similar attendance numbers during conference play under Dambrot when some garbage MAC West teams would come in. Half the issue is the MAC isn't interesting. Of course MAC-play attendance might be down a bit this year, but we've had some solid crowds for how decimated this team. It's up to Groce & co. to win games worth a damn in future seasons to build interest back up. My "filled in decently well" comment was in reference to what the place looked like 10+ minutes before tip, which was a ghost town.

  3. When Keith took over, he had Romeo, DJ III and Jerimiah Wood... three of the best Zips in recent memory. Groce got, basically, a bucket of spit with one all-MAC calibre player. Huge, huge difference. Keith is my friend since junior high. Loved him here. Happy for him for his payday. Wish him well. But Groce is handling a situation that Keith never faced at Akron.

  5. oh just stop already. Pittsburgh is two hours away. As for the Evans Lounge, I think this year or was it last year they stopped giving free food to all the VIP ticket holders. Only the top donors (and you know what a wild and wacky crowd they are) can fill up on a meal before game and during halftime. For everyone else, it's basically good for grabbing a water or maybe some popcorn at halftime. There's no real reason to be there other than to watch everyone else eat unless you want to get there 30 minutes early to listen to an asst coach AND watch everyone else eat.

  6. What an informative article, thanks. • Alce chose Akron over eight other Division I teams, including the likes of Miami, Wisconsin, USF and Pittsburgh. • While several schools wanted Alce as a linebacker, Akron pursued him to play running back. • Abraham Alce and Shedro Louis have been known as Thunder and Lightning. Akron was the only DI school to offer Louis. • Alce pulled a fast one on the crowd, revealing a Miami hat....quickly tossed the Canes hat into the crowd and said "I’m taking my talents to the University of Akron" • Zips running backs coach Eric Hickson visited Alce last March....A native of Fort Lauderdale, Hickson recruits South Florida with vigor every year. • Louis (Wide receiver/defensive back) has impacted on offense, defense and special teams....led a deep, talented receiving corps with 614 yards and 11 touchdowns. Louis tended to bring his best in big games

  7. UTSA is really close to UTA. I'm still having PTSD from that NIT game whenever I see that.

  10. 4 Takeaways From LAFC's 1-1 Preseason Draw With NYCFC ... During the week, Bradley said he’d discussed with his staff the possibility of extending a few players up to 60 minutes in the second preseason match. Against NYCFC, four players went the full 90: Vela, Blessing, Joao Moutinho and Tyler Miller. ... ... High Praise For The Rookie Following the match, NYCFC coach Patrick Vieira made a particular point of congratulating LAFC’s No. 1 overall pick Joao Moutinho for a great match. The former Arsenal and Juventus man had just finished speaking with reporters when he a beeline for Moutinho, before putting his hand on the rookie’s shoulder and commending him for his play. After the interaction, a stunned Moutinho could only say “it’s nice to be recognized” with a huge smile on his face. 12. That team has better talent than their record. I'd think Keno is up for a lot of questions.

  13. It may have been and I can't complain too much because we won, just hated seeing them get 2nd chance points.

  14. Inexcusable, especially when they are short-handed. Kudos to Groce for sticking to his guns.

  16. Who knew Ivey needed to establish himself in the front court before receiving that pass from Smith? I have to admit, I was caught off guard on that one. It's just not something you see every day.
