  1. So after 7 seasons Bowden still has an O-line that can't run block OR pass block against a good MAC team.!!!!??? Where are we going?

  2. Lose by 21 and you 'hang tough'?! This would have been nice in 2012. Not in 2018!!!

  3. 1. Kato has improved and after Northern Illinois, which I consider his true breakout game, he mentioned that the difference was that he watched a lot more film. Judgement had been Kato's issue and it seems that he has figured out that the more he prepares, the better he will play. He is more than good enough to lead the team at QB when he does the prep work. I think it took him a while to get into a groove yesterday, but I think an injury in cold weather always takes little more time to warm up. 2. Dre Williams, Nate Stewart, Boogie Knight, and Maverick Woolfley. Our upper classmen on offense have largely been underwhelming. These kids all have talent, probably more talent than any other group of Zips WR group in the Bowden era. Timothy Scippio worked his way into the rotation, yesterday. I will be interested to see what he can do, too. 3. We are really losing only Ritz on the OL. Corne, Council, Treveor Brown and Peterson will return as solid starters and we also have some nice sized Freshmen ready to step up. The OL had some nice halftime adjustments, yesterday, that gave Kato time to throw. These young guys will get stronger and we return some decent experience on the OL. 4. The D returns some solid players: Alvin Davis, Jest, Lako, Glover, DeAandre Brimage, Arslanian, Zaire Jacobs, Butler, and Meeks, to name a few. I think there are some guys who have talent but who have been sitting behind some talented guys, too, like Jeffrey Lubin. The 2 largest off season question marks for me are the run game and who will kick and punt for the Zips next year. Glasser has been, arguably, the most consistent performer of the year. He does not put up huge numbers but he is pretty consistent. Kick-offs were much better, mostly out of the end zone. For the run game to improve, something needs to happen with the OL. Not sure if that means a new OL coach is needed or if it has been all strength and size.

  4. Getting pumped about the trip down to Wake Forest tomorrow. Supposed to be sunny and mid 50’s. Should be some great soccer. Got my $5 over 55 tix in hand. Go Zips! Hopefully I’m not the only Zip fan there!

  5. Frank is 70-42 in the MAC. Terry is 23-33. We have 8(7?) Senior starters on defense. Next year will be another rebuild. I feel the winds of change blowing strong. Something has to happen to salvage what is left of the fan base and more importantly the booster base. The empty suites on the 6th floor and loges and club seats on the 5th floor are sending a message that can't be ignored.

  6. The one thing I would like to see change about the NCAA sub rule is that once a player has been on the field and taken out, that player should not be allowed to return. Allow all the subs you want up to the number available on the bench, but not allow them to exit and re-enter. College baseball does this just like pro baseball. Why can’t collegiate soccer at least do that. More players can be allowed to play, but like in the pros, the teams/players with better fitness have the advantage that they should.

  7. I think the win over Northwestern set up unrealistic expectations. I never thought we would be that competitive this year. We were picked to finish fourth in the MAC. Most other people are not really surprised by the results. The offense has gone through a rebuilding season and the QB was injured as things started coming together. That happens. Why are people so shocked and dismayed. You could probably put together a one and done championship team with a coach without scruples and he would be gone the next year. Is that what you want? Ir would you rather build a perennial contender? We are pretty close to being that perennial co te der. Frank Solich has never won a MAC championship. Would you fire him, too?

  8. It's been a pretty common theme for the past 7 seasons. Whenever Akron plays a good MAC team we lose by double figures. I'm not sure how there are some people out there who think no changes are needed. It's literally insane to expect to bring this entire staff back and expect things will somehow fix itself. At the absolutely very least we need a new OC and O-line coach.

  10. The 2-3 Alabama State Hornets come to the JAR Wednesday night. They've beaten LaGrange and Birmingham Southern and lost to Iowa State, South Dakota State and Iowa. 6-3 junior guard Reginald Lee leads the Hornets at 16.4 ppg. 6-8 sophomore center Brandon Johnson (from Garfield Heights) leads all rebounders at 8 rpg. They average 75 ppg. The Zips handled the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville. Here's hoping they handle their cousins, the Hornets.

  11. A change must be made. Anything that keeps the status quo is denying reality. The fan base has deserted this program and rightly so. I have always felt Summit county fans know good football. They don't settle for less. The attendance and sponsorship support speak volumes about what this knowledgeable community sees in our future under this leadership. Invoke the buyout and end the bleeding.

  12. https://gozips.com/news/2018/11/24/mens-soccer-zips-square-off-against-top-seeded-wake-forest.aspx 4 minute and 40 second interview with Jared. Chad Welker does a nice job with these interviews. Jared is very nice to give a lot of credit to Brett Draper and Tim Campbell

  13. Looking at some of the young talent that has worked it's way in on D, we are more ready for that transition. Honestly, our D line has not been stellar. Jamal Davis has had a good year, but we have not had a lot going on up front on D. Ohio and any other team committed to run against us, manhandled the D line If we are honest, apart from Northwestern, we lacked physicality on both sides of the ball. Maybe Gildersleeve is the one who needs to go.

  14. Not knocking defense, we do make it very difficult with our game plan, we put all the pressure on the D, we die with the run game we don’t have every week, open it up, let your athletes make plays, use Van Edwards with screens & in the flats & checkdowns, wide receiver screens, slants. Quick hitting pass plays as the O-Line can’t hold blocks real long either

  15. Truly! Jared Embick has never been MAC Coach Of The Year. Wow. That is quite disrespectful, everything considered. Excellent point!

  16. 32 yards rushing total compared to Ohio's 381 and yall claim the offense showed up? Kato was 24/41 Passing. Like I said earlier with this type of offense thats quick to go 3 and out when does the Defense have a chance to rest? Call me a idiot and every other name in the book but in my opinion this season the Defense is NOT the Problem. At 3.1 yards a carry Akron has 1029 yards on 329 carries and out of the 329 Kato has 112 (carries) of them. In comparison at 5.9 yards a carry Ohio U has 2765 yards. But yall go right ahead and keep believing the Defense is the one who didn't show up today

  19. Offense with 388 yards, so far today. They have adjusted nicely but the D has not been able to stop the Ohio run. Boogie Knight has been a significant addition to special teams and offense. Between he, William, and Stewart, Kato should have a good year, next year.

  21. fknbuflobo, I certainly appreciate your point of view, which comes from a big-picture vantage point of the role of college soccer in US soccer, and of US soccer in world soccer. My perspective is different; I'm more of a general fan of second-tier (in terms of overall popularity) college sports, including hockey and lacrosse as well as soccer. So when soccer does something different than these other sports, that's what stands out to me. One thing I really appreciate about college soccer is the more liberal substitution rules, which give more players time on the field. I'd hate to see that change. (Other things, like different treatment of the clock, does not make a lot of sense to me.) Anyway, rankings are all moot now! And TDS is now treating the Indiana-Wisconsin game as a draw when quoting the two teams' records, so all of this appears to have been based on a mistake at TDS, now corrected ...
