The reason our program attracts the best players is their opportunity to play for Akron and go pro, whether that is after a year or several years. Having players sign with Generation Adidas draws potential recruits' attention to our program and gives our coaches a great tool with which to convince them to sign up. Without that, we would not even know these players to lament their leaving early.3 points

Whatever the case, this was a wasted year. After the Cherry Bowl, LW should have canned Bowden. Embarrassed the University. LW can take what time is necessary to make right this situation.2 points

I disagree. There's a point where you're waiting too long. And I don't think there will be a bevy of talent remaining after this upcoming week's signing day. At the beginning of this year Bowden wasn't expecting to get fired. He had a lot of redshirts and gray shirts sitting out 2018 in expectation that he'd be coaching them in 2019, so it will be interesting to know how many scholarships are available. Maybe half the class is already on campus? Then we need to see how many incumbent guys bail. I look at Jabari Arthur's story, and the change from Owens to Brookhart really pissed him off. He wanted to transfer. And it ended up being the best possible thing to happen to his football career. I hope once our new coach is selected, the incumbent guys take a deep breath and interview the new staff themselves before making a their transfer decision.2 points

Let the Arth era of Akron football begin! Let's see what he can do! Any word on if he'll be bringing his JC staff with him? I believe he was putting them in place at UTC, so I would assume they'd follow him to Akron, correct?1 point

And in the year 2265, Nebulon Kehres will be coaching at the Mount Union Intergalactic Academy...1 point

Anybody know where to get the half and half jerseys? I want a Zips, Timbers, and Crew jersey all in one - #10 Porter on the back.1 point

I don't care about getting a coach that creates headlines with their hire. We had that with Bowden. A name loses its significance if it can't put a competitive team on the field. I don't know the ins and outs of all these coaches, but give me the guy whose best at recruiting and developing talent.1 point

I’m hoping there is a lot of smoke here. I’m not big on Arth & I can’t see us paying his buyout. If your going to do that pay more & get a name that motivates the community. I’m thinking Kehres probably makes the most financial sense, gets people excited & probably your best long term candidate. If your willing to spend more & reach financially a little I think Getsy would be a big hit & more of a rent a coach until a P5 comes calling1 point

I see he woke up from his nap to write an article on things reported 2 weeks ago.1 point

Only the team hosting pays and some amount of that goes towards covering the traveling teams transportation costs. There is no real media deal or much of any sponsorship tied to the tournament so charging teams to participate kind of is the only way to keep the tournaments afloat.1 point

As previously stated, it's more important to get this hire right than it is to save a recruiting class that's already going to be behind the 8 ball. Not to mention there is a second signing period in the spring, and plenty of time to pick up the scraps and find some hidden gems/diamonds in the rough.1 point

Between Haslam being a key part of the group that bought the team, Porter, and Trapp, the Crew possibly have more NEO connections than Columbus!1 point

I have to wonder why there weren't some serious hours being put in right after this first happened? Numerous other schools have lost their HC after ours and have already found a replacement.1 point

I can tell you this from talking with him as he was leaving to become Timbers coach and recently when he was at Akron for the Varsity A HoF induction ... Caleb loves Akron. He made it his program and took it (along with Jared) to the pinnacle of D-1 Men's Soccer with our 2010 National Championship. He recommended Jared Embick as his replacement and has followed and been pleased with the continued excellence of our program...which also adds to his legacy. (It's always a plus for a coach's assistant to also go on and be so successful like Jared.) Also, it is likely that former Zip Pablo Moreira will be part of Caleb's coaching staff in Columbus. Wil Trapp is Captain of the Crew. Who knows what other former Zips may join the Crew. No guarantees, but it seems the ties to our program will be strong.1 point

I wonder how he ended up on our radar. Seems to bounce around a lot, and feels like he's a "football guy". But can he recruit, and hire/manage a great coaching staff? Head coaches typically don't work directly with players. I think his resume is more suited to a coordinator position before jumping right to head coach.1 point

Based on that article, the LA deal "never got over the finish line." I really want him to be the Crew Head Coach.1 point

My hope and expectations are to be in the top third of the MAC this year and competing at the top next year.1 point

Agreed that the coaching has not been as good in football as in basketball, but Glen Mason, Pees, Martin and Hazell were pretty solid in their time there. On the topic of their coaching hires, here's hoping Mr. Pinky outlasts every coach in PCCC history!1 point
