Any online fan site is going to have irrational fans. It's easy to act that way when you're hidden behind a keyboard. Frankly this is the best place for Zips news. I know I personally wouldn't be the fan that I am now if not for this site. Thanks Captain and all the admins for the work you do.4 points

Looks like we are adding a much needed big guy just in time for the season?! Looks like a stretch 4 with 3 years of immediate eligibility. http://verbalcommits.com/players/taylor-currie3 points

I'm quite excited about this pick up. Finally, a big man with decent footwork and a shot (from all levels too). I think our offense will expand greatly with X being used at times as a stretch 4 and now with Currie coming in we will be able to maintain it. My only concern is that he has changed teams a couple times already (He had committed to Michigan before deciding on Wisconsin). Hopefully he has all of that out of his system and is ready to commit to finishing his career at Akron. A single season at the junior college level is probably a good decision for someone who has to sit out of D1 competition anyway per transfer rules and who has already been off the court for a redshirt season. I imagine the Akron coaches and trainer will have a conversation with the staff over at Mott CC to discuss a potential developmental program for skill work and conditioning. To finish off the 2020 class, I would like to see us land a rim protecting center and for Mikal Dawson to qualify. Let's go Zips!! Correction: We still have too many recruits on the board for this year, which means we have at least 3 slots left to fill in 2020. So I will add a speedy PG to my wish list to replace the outgoing LCJ.2 points

I heard they wanted to let him go after 2017 season but he backed into the MAC Championship game & they felt like they couldn’t fire after that but I understand the coaches lost the team & the players weren’t respecting coaches & talking back I’ve said before the South Carolina game was done to make up the other half of Nebraska game so no lost of income & the other half covered Arth’s & Bowden’s buyouts, was a great pick up, just had to be hard to coach for Bowden as he had to know2 points

Joe is protecting his wallet. Never heard of this Beltz guy, but he must read posts on Zipsnation as this is where you get good Zips news. Sure you have to sift through some whining, trolls and other crap, but this is the place that's entertaining and informative if you're a Zips fan.2 points

It's interesting that John Groce lost Mikal Dawson, but coach Melissa Jackson picked up his sister Jordyn, a transfer from Wabash (IN) CC, who played her freshman year at Xavier. She was the two-time WVa Gatorade Player of the Year.2 points

Mikal Dawson removed for this year and future unknown. Zips pick up Taylor Currie.2 points

I do not believe that ANY of our Zips should be planning a professional career right now. Adidas is not going to sponsor any player from a winless team that doesn’t score goals, surrenders double-digit Corner Kicks per match, commits double-digit fouls per match, and cannot string together five productive passes to save somebody's life. Pittsburgh shot the ball 18 times last night!!!! 18!!!2 points

I recall a number of years ago watching one of the first Zips Men's Soccer practices of that season from outside the fence at Shrank Field when Caleb Porter was head coach. Caleb became very frustrated that the players were not being serious and couldn't put together even a few good passes. He said something to the effect...You may have played shite soccer all summer, but THIS IS AKRON! That quote comes to mind because what I've seen in these 5 losses, I wouldn't even call shite soccer. Much of it is just shite. I'm calling out all of our players. Get it together and take responsibility. Don't blame this on your fellow teammate. If he isn't doing what you think he should be, let him know. Don't just throw up your hands. Call him out. But, look hard at yourself, too. Every player should be asking himself what can I do better to fix this? It begins with bringing the right attitude to the game from start to finish.2 points

+100x!!! ...and the guy who had national name recognition, gave us a MACC appearance, and won the most ever games in a season for an Akron D1 team. Don't forget, we ate a year of a contract for this. Even if the cupboard is currently bare, discipline issues and poor play calling are purely on the coach. While we suffered through some of that with Bowden, his teams were usually competitive and won some notable games and had a small handful of good seasons, particularly after bringing us back from the iCoach abyss. Why do I feel we have returned to that dark time?1 point

This season is depressing. I need some good news, whether it be on the field or recruiting front soon.1 point

Looks like this guy is coming for a visit this weekend. A couple of the Zips coaches Liked the above tweet. Trey Coleman, RB, 5-11, 213, Hutchinson CC, West Monroe HS, West Monroe, LA The Hutchison CC Football website states his previous college as Tennessee. 24/7 lists him with offers from us, UMass & Toledo. Rivals.com lists him coming out of high school as a 3-star prospect with offers from Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana Tech & Iowa State1 point

I'm sure he'll sign his LOI on the 2nd Wednesday of November - the NCAA early signing day. So we'll know whether or not he'll be a Zip next year prior to the start of this season.1 point

Wisconsin has consistently been a top 3 or 4 team in the B1G for 2 decades. They aren't going to want to spend 3 years developing a guy when they can get someone who can help them win now.1 point

I think it's pretty obvious that the players/coaches knew by that point that Bowden wasn't coming back. It was pretty obvious by the epic melt-down of the end of the year...lack of motivation/coaching was a direct result of communication that they were not coming back. Bowden should have been extended after beating Northwestern (the first Big-10 win in history, and starting 2-0); instead the administration decided to bide it's time. It was complete disrespect.1 point

Week 4 presser. He gets a little fired up at the 16:10 mark when GT questions the O-line.1 point

Lol, so easy to throw out subjective, impossible to measure, defend, or prove crap comments. Seriously.1 point

Its the same as a high schooler who commits to college before his senior year. You commit early to "lock in" your spot. He just stated his intent for the future.1 point

I think so. I think we get him next year. It'll be fun to watch how he performs at Mott JC this season.1 point

I'm confused more by this than a Clark Griswold post. Today, he said he is playing for the Zips. In May he said he was playing for Mott. Would they say he is a Zip if he is playing a year at a junior college?1 point

Interesting. Literally one poster has said they are done with Nelson. No mention of the Oline woes and putrid running game.1 point

Nicolas Alt has not been seen since the 2nd exhibition match, but I think it may be time to give him a try. I've seen every one of these losses in person and do not ever remember watching such uninspired Zips Men's Soccer. Will no one step up to right this ship? The coaches can only do so much. The players have to take the responsibility for fixing this.1 point

Don’t love Arth yet and I may never, but I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt for now. I backed Terry as hard as I could for as long as I could, but man he lost me fast and I don’t see myself ever missing what he and the program eventually turned into. (Not referring to the division championship, ya buzzards, nor do I have to) The biggest difference that gives me hope right now is that this staff was able to sign a higher-rated class than the previous staff pretty much ever did, and that’s without signing a single player before February. That is pretty amazing whether you are a person who is not cutting the new group any slack because you don’t think Bowden should’ve been fired or not. If you can’t agree with that, I’m sorry, but you might as well go be a Kent State fan. Another difference I see is the lack of FBS coaching experience. The pressure is on like never before, and it helped to have guys like Stroud and Amato here when that group first came in. Their contributions were incredible. That’s the most frustrating thing about this group to me. Off the top of my head, and it’s the last one I’ll list because I can’t think of anymore, I see a team that’s got some fire to it that I haven’t seen in a while. I’m not talking about 3 defensive touchdown fire or wagon wheel fire, I’m talking about desire to play football for 60 minutes. Those early Bowden teams did it, but the last couple of years those teams rarely played hard for 60 minutes. Small thing, but could end up being a big difference maker. Also, rather irrelevant but could help with recruiting, the way this staff uses social media is really cool. It’s like a D1 program. Between the two of them I know of one constant, my love for Akron football. It’s a love I know a lot of people on this board (seemingly not all unfortunately) share with me.1 point

Once again going for a no win season. But somehow he is better than Bowden. Did Bowden take a bunch of players with him like KD? Color me confused. At this point mediocrity is better1 point
-
Bowden inherited the worst team in D1. At Chattanooga, Arth inherited a team who had a 9-4 record for two years prior to his arrival. You cannot honestly tell me that what we are seeing is better offensive play calling, either. As @Zipmeister indicated, this might not 9nly be a winless season, but the worst team in D1. Probably a good thing we didnt play a decent FCS team, this year.1 point

At the P5 level, it's about contributing now. The seasoned senior is the exception to the rule.0 points

I was disappointed that Joe took the bait when the interviewer called ZipsNation a "Cesspool." It would have been nice if he said "It seems like there're a lot of nice people on that site. Great game photography, some nice player stories and passionate fans. You spent a lot of time complaining about guys that sit in bars all day and watch the games. ZipsNation guys attend all the games." Oh well. As far as Beltz goes - I'll let his interview and content speak for itself.0 points

Darn. Looks like I'm off base. Still should be a nice add next year.0 points
