So they can squeeze a few more .500 P5 teams in? Unlike college football where half the teams are eliminated from competing for a national title before the season even begins, every team in college basketball actually has a path to a national title. Besides it was only 1 1/2 years ago that a 16 seed knocked off a 1.4 points

True, but I believe you pointed this out, Kreed, that our cumulative total is 8th in the MAC, but our average recruit ranking puts us 2nd in the MAC, presently, just behind Toledo (IIRC). So that’s a drastic improvement over a typical Bowden recruiting class.3 points

The best chance the Zips football team has of spolilng anything this year is to have them break into the stadium concession stands prior to their games and unplug the food refrigeration units.3 points

85 total scholarships per team in any given year and up to 25 per recruiting class. As far as do Juco or transfers count toward the 25, depends, after 2 years of playing, they would not count toward the 25 per year limit but would count toward the 85 total. That is why you often see walkons that get a scholarship not get one until they are starting their 3rd year on the team.2 points

Facilities that host OHSAA playoff games get a rental fee and are allowed to keep all parking and concessions sales. The rental fee is the same for any game regardless of division or size of the stadium. OHSAA even sets the price you can charge for parking. For UA, the costs to staff these games are significantly higher than the average high school hosting site. It is a real crapshoot for UA to host. It is not a sure bet that they make a profit.2 points

For kicks, I did a quick run through Iowa State's roster: 2 from NEO (Mike Rose from Brecksville and Jataris Grant from Akron Garfield), 4 from Cincinnati/Dayton area, 1 from Newark, Ohio, 4 from the Detroit area.2 points

Daniel Strachan deserves to be on MAC First Team. If you think otherwise, you are not watching the matches.1 point

Congratulations to MAC coach of the year Jared Embick Colin Biros, David Egbo and Carlo Ritaccio were selected to the first team Daniel Strachan, Chris Lue and Will were chosen as 2nd team From my perspective, Daniel Strachan was the MVP this year for zips mens soccer. I feel that Daniel should have been MAC first team. https://getsomemaction.com/news/2019/11/14/mac-announces-2019-mens-soccer-postseason-awards.aspx1 point

Not yet. And I'm with you. I could think of a couple reasons the Zips Men's Basketball staff may have for holding off on announcing any signings just yet. (Jared Embick did something similar in announcing the men's soccer recruits last year almost a week after NLOI Day.) So what really makes me nervous is that neither Taylor Currie nor Garvin Clarke have announced that they have signed on their respective twitter pages.1 point

Hey, just another note - IUPFW has a freshman from Aurora HS, Shayla Sellers. She's the daughter of Brad Sellers, former NBA star and Buckeye as well. And Michigan will have Izabel Varejao, niece of Anderson Varejao former Cavs player!1 point

If NC Central continues to turn it over at the pace that they have demonstrated so far the Zips could flirt with the century mark. Let 'em run John. Zips 94 - NC Central 781 point

Are you guys looking at our commit list? We have a few weeks to go, but if we keep what we have, and add a few more, this could be the best class we have ever had! Remember, it took Jimmies & Joes to row the boat.1 point

I just know they've made the tournament in 3 of the last 4 years. They did it through the MEAC though, so who knows.1 point

Let's be real here, did anyone really think that anyone was going to show up for a Tuesday 6pm game in a blizzard featuring two teams with losing records when it was going to be on television? No. Sure, the attendance number was inflated by 10,000 - no big surprise there. These midweek MAC games are terrible ideas. They kill the premise of what college football should be about - which is tailgating, a campus coming together with students & alumni cheering on a team in unity. No one watches these games on ESPNX and in this day and age of 700 channels you'd probably get more viewership over a YouTube Stream. That's where the younger generation is consuming video, not on expanded tier premium cable. That idea is so 1999. Kudos of gargantuan proportion to the Zips Marching Band as they were out in force and making noise. Great job! It's gotta be hard to be so cheerful when the product on the field is what it is.1 point

If you actually go look at @ZipsVoice old post and follow the thread, you will see that I agree with a lot of what you're saying. I particularly pointed out all the guys on the Toledo roster who could be key contributors for us. Bowden's staff actually had a fairly good amount of success in recruiting Florida and Arth's staff, while still early, seems to have a nice inroads to Georgia as I'm counting 4 3* players from that state committed to the 2020 class. It's not realistic to have 100 players on the roster all from Ohio so it's important to still have some pipelines elsewhere. The ~35 players IMO is a pretty good overall number to shoot for. The focus just needs to be on making those a quality 35 instead of a quantity 35.1 point

Nice to get some actual info. It is so easy for rumors to take off on things like this. Hope the truth spreads as far and fast as the rumors.1 point

Unfortunately, not a big surprise here. From Uplift HS in Chicago to Victory Rock Prep to Southern Illinois to Panola JC to Akron to... Recruiting like this is one of the reasons I'm having trouble warming up to Groce's program. Hope the kid finds a place he is content.1 point

Folks! I have had season tix since way back in the Rubber Bowl days. I did not attend last night not because I thought U of A was going to get blown out, which they did. BUT, because the game was meaningless, the Akron Athletic Dept. treats fans as if this is the Big 10. They think they can nickel an dime revenue out of attendance. NEVER HAPPENED! NEVER WILL! I did not attend last night. First time since 2009 I have not. See above! Whether Arth is the answer or not. Who cares?! Bleeding cash. Not winning consistently. Where do we go!!!???0 points
