  1. Some posters should find a different school to follow rather than make themselves miserable here.

  2. Agree with all of that. My point is that the program is probably not entirely out of the woods, especially if we see an ugly season. Announced as a sell out.

  3. Financially, this is a good idea. In practice, let's look at the law of unintended consequences. When I was in school, travel squad was 47, not sure how the "building process" got it above 70, but the mysteries behind the "building process"...well, you know. In practice, herding the animals the night before a game is important. In reality, fans of home teams are going to have to accept that some players are going to be as hung over as Micky Mantle during a Sunday double header. Some are going to be suspended for the game because they were caught out drinking. In reality, the traveling team numbers need to be lowered to below 60. This will create some really lopsided scores when facing a poor home team, but too bad. If NFL teams can put on a game with 47 players, so can the NCAA.

  4. I'm not trying to be anti-soccer, but basketball averages double that attendance and football has 1-2 games per year where they pull more than 13k fans, which is how many fans soccer got for their entire season.

  5. If he's half of what Jimond was the Zips would be blessed to have him. I don't know that there's been any other Zip I enjoyed watch grow up more in a program than Jimond.

  6. I think this whole situation says a lot about the leadership of the athletics department, specifically in terms of external things. Marketing is a disaster as we all can see, and it has been since the current "rock star" of a director was hired. And fundraising is a joke too. How do I know? Matt Kaulig is a BILLIONAIRE, yes, with a B, and the only time I ever see him is in commercials during the local news. Name the damn athletic department after the guy, do whatever you have to do to get a piece of his fortune. Hell, he's a former athlete!!!! He seems passionate about UA athletics and the University as a whole, take advantage of it! Sorry to all the athletes and people that will be affected by these cuts. At the end of the day, someone had to make a very hard decision and deliver some difficult news, nobody wins in these situations. Go Zips everybody! Hope your MAC Champs shirts show up in the mail soon!

  7. The Iowa State game was the last Akron game I attended too! ? This was posted in the CycloneFanatic.com discussion about the Akron cuts. All red on the visiting team side and lots of red on the home team side. Yes, we travel well.

  8. Browns' fans are the only fans in the world who will regularly support sh!++y football. Would crowds automatically reverse and start showing up with a good team? Probably not, but build like they did with basketball and they will eventually come. If they could focus on keeping a decent portion of the non P5 top players in NEO, that would be a start to not only building talent but gaining some local recognition.

  9. Why is football the "problem" but not other sports? None of them profit. Why stop at football..why don't we cut them all? Two-thousand something average attendance for a MAC Championship basketball program sucks as well.

  10. He became less frustrating as he evolved as a player. He went from being the out of control crazy athletic layup missing brick laying freshman to a solid team leader. I went up to his dad on senior night and told him how much I had enjoyed watching Jimond grow up in the program and how much I appreciated how he stuck it out through the Dambrot/Groce transition. I also remember how proud Groce was with how he followed though with his plan to graduate.

  11. Not that anyone wants to revisit the Bowden argument, but one could argue they prematurely extended Bowden.

  13. I keep hearing how the payday games sustain football, if not the whole athletic Dept. How it draws network money, sells a heel of a lot more tickets, corporate sponsorships, we played payday games to PAY the left over salary, blah blah blah. And I keep hearing the football haters complain that it is such a financial drain on the athletic Dept. How exactly is it possible a program can break even, and yet take millions of dollars out of university coffers. Sounds like jealousy to me...

  15. Jimond was frustrating at times, but damn did he pour Blue & Gold blood, sweat, and tears on the court for the University.

  16. I think it was that t-shirt cannon blow to the head. I've been a problem ever since. BTW...I was/am pro-Groce and thought KD was mired in mediocrity. And as I recall you raised holy hell about Williams, etc, when all that went down.

  17. This is exactly the PROBLEM. For 34 years people have said let it go, but it doesn't go because stupid leaders continue to make stupid decisions with no repercussions. Why do the Athletic Director and his associate cohort still have their jobs after wasting so much money?

  18. When your biggest cash burner is Football with all the custom jerseys, gold helmets and we do this BS And the end result is Akron Football deserves all the smoke they are getting especially from those and supporters of the cut programs. The Leadership has been an utter disgrace. Our interim president back then look like he was in his own Pandemic in 2018

  20. Not to mention reduced payouts from P5 schools, no FBS playoff pool money, and no tv money. The TV deal alone pays 833k per year. At 35k per scholarship that alone is enough to fund 23.8 scholarships, which makes up the difference between FCS and FBS.
