The biggest difference was having other players who could create their own shot, namely Tyler Cheese. Hopefully with a real off-season this year somebody will emerge for next year. Right now though only Jackson can consistently create. Our opponents know this and are quite content to just double LCJ and dare anybody else to beat them.2 points

It is but it's also not his job to babysit and pass up decent looks just to be charitable2 points

Watching the game the word that came to mind was "rudderless". I think this team is maxed out. We need a full off-season of development, individually and collectively. Covid please go away.2 points

They're just completely out of sync on offense and defense. This team has just not meshed like last year's squad.2 points

I still think Dawson should start. He's a dog who can shoot and drive to the basket. He's 6'5" & built like a bull. I agree with Groce bringing Dailey off the bench. But I just don't think Tribble should be starting over Dawson. Tribble starting gives us a starting PG who is 5'8", and two wings, Trimble at 6'2", and Tribble at 6'1". 5'8", 6'1" and 6'2" is pretty small. Especially considering the only offense Tribble brings to the table is driving to the basket. Whoever is guarding Tribble knows he can sag way off him. Anyway, the point of my post is not to bash on Tribble. I love his hustle, athleticism, and defense. I'm glad he's a Zip. But I think Dawson should be the starter. Now, if only the coaching staff would get wise & listen to me. Lol.1 point

I remember last year, Groce had that team at Orange Theory, yoga, maybe paint ball and had some serious bonding going on. Ironically, LCJ is learning how important that bonding is with a new born. Groce has a new team and all that bonding and development time was ripped away by covid. I also think their COVID shutdown occurred at the worst time for them. Last year and the year before Groce would talk a lot about the personalities on the team...who sucked energy and who created energy. All that is missing this year.1 point

Yuck. Yuck yuck yuck. 4 straight sh*t halves. First time that's happened in a couple years. There's really not much more to say than this team is not fun to watch right now. At all. A month ago it was poetry in motion, go figure. And no LCJ is not being too selfish. This was actually one of his better games as far as shot selection, he just didn't hit the 3s he normally does. He had a ton of good looks that didn't fall. As for the two high major transfers, that's their collective worst performance since St. Bonaventure. Maishe made a hell of a Euro step finish early and Trimble made his only 3s very early. Then? Maishe is Maishe of course, but then Trimble was taking awful shots and missing badly. And then he bricked his most wide open shot of his life. Then once the team collectively felt it was out of reach (it wasn't yet), effort went straight down the toilet. BG isn't overtly talented, but they play like Akron did at one point. Use hard defense to create offense. They shut down Akron and in turn played loose and played smart basketball, props to them. I'm jealous. The sky is a lot closer to the ground than it was last week, but I still have faith. BG has rattled off 4 great road wins in a row after dropping I believe 6 in a row, teams can be up and down, Lord knows we have. At the end of the day, I will officially retire my hopes of this team developing the toughness and swagger of last year's team, my hope for a slasher/finisher died a while back too. If this team is to do anything special, it comes largely down to execution. The pieces are there, the effort is usually there, just execute. It'll be a long 3 days off before Buffalo, that's for sure.1 point

I agree. LCJ's got to get more of an LBJ mindset. During the first quarter of games LeBron often passes up open looks to get his teammates the ball, purposefully trying to get his teammates going & into the flow of the game. It's a team game.1 point

This is true. I've been vocal about my disappointment in Dailey, but during the preseason I had Currie penciled into my starting lineup prediction. I've also got to say, I still would like to see Dawson in the starting lineup. I know Tribble's a very athletic defender, but I just don't see the reason for him getting PT in front of Dawson.1 point

The second best player on the team is a walk-on.I think the Zips have definitely overachieved. Also the Zips are about to be in third place.1 point

Such are the perils of being a chuck and duck team. When the shots are falling it's fun to watch and it will win you a lot of MAC games. When they don't fall you can be beaten by anybody. At some point, before I die, I'd like to see some big boy basketball played in the paint.1 point

We have zero half court offense. Need stops to score in transition and when we aren't getting stops.. it looks ugly. So we either need to turn things around on the defensive end or figure something out in the half court offense1 point

You don’t get the extra effort from your teammates when they know it’s a slim chance they’ll get touches on offense. He’ll finish with 30 but win or lose this hasn’t been fun to watch.1 point

The Zips were the better team, no doubt. The first half was pure vintage Akron soccer. Lots of possession, pressure and penetration. In the second half we lost the rhythm and let a less talented team back in the game. To me the midfield seemed to fall apart and the backs did not overlap and widen the field. In the first half Pol was a monster at that. He and Diago created so many problems for UK's back four. It bothered me that in the second half we stopped settling the ball and passing on the ground with our short pass game. Instead we got caught up in the momentum going to UK and we started going for more long ball and thru passes. UK was effective in cutting off any thru balls and winning their share of the long balls. The Zips are back. We took on the #12 ranked team and showed we are better. At this stage of the game the only thing I saw lacking was a burner who could stretch the D and get behind the back four. We need a mid to emerge as a dominant distributor also. Regardless, Jared will find a way to win and this team will improve. At tournament time we will be a beast.1 point
