Akron should have never fired Bowden is what a good majority of Akron alumni believe, and the way Bowden was fired with years left on his contract for an unproven coach was a reckless decision and we’re lucky the program is still D1 at this point. I’m expecting Arth to be a failure but I would love to be proven wrong. This program is in a sad state and I’d rather drive to Kent to watch Kent State play than go to a Zips game if I was looking to watch local D1 football program. There’s no excitement about the Zips, Arth doesn’t bring excitement. He’s no Caleb Porter.

I can't think of a responsible decision the board has made in YEARS. From choosing Presidents, hiring and firing coaches (with $$ left on contracts) to things as simple as changing the uniforms for the football team. I remember hearing on National TV that our white helmets with the Z were the best looking unis in college football. What do we do....change them to a high school looking script logo.

Irons was 13-of-13 for 129 yards and 1 TD. He was inserted into the game at 4:58 in the 3rd. From that point on we outscored Auburn 10-7. That's our silver lining. And it's a big one.

Bowden was let go on December 2, 2018. 2 years, 9 months and 4 days ago. 1009 days ago. It may just be time to let it go.

Hey fellas, thanks for stopping by. DJ Irons looked fantastic. I haven't been this excited about a Zips QB in a long time. He was JUCO last season and this was the first that any of us on here were able to see him. He looks like the kind of QB who could save Arth's job & be a true program changer. He was in control of the huddle, cool, calm & collected; the game certainly wasn't moving too fast for him, which I find difficult to believe it being his first D-1 experience. Simply unbelievable debut. I want a "0" jersey! Go Zips!

Hey everybody, Just got on your boards to hear what you thought about DJ Irons. I work at Iowa Central Community College and loved watching him play. He has a little Michael Vick in him the way he can scramble out of situations. I remember a play where our OL apparently forgot that their job was to block, but he dodged about 4 would be tacklers and ran for a first down. That type of play does give you opportunities for injury as he had a couple of minor injuries while at IC. Hopefully he will be named the starter and can bring a little excitement to Zips nation. Also, on top of being a talented QB, he is a sensational person with great character! Look forward to following him and you guys from Iowa.

can you please post a link to an article that shows that the game will be on regular big ten network? https://btn.com/shows/ when I go to their site and key in September 15, their site tells me that they will show volley ball at 7 and campus eats at 8. unrelated, I sure hope that the University is lining up buses to take a lot of AK Rowdies down to Columbus. Akron needs to have a lot of fans in Columbus for this game. Soccer in Ohio......belongs to the zips. Fan support needed to help the hard working players get a big win over the Buckeyes

Hey guys! I got a little curious after the game about what you guys were thinking about that No.2 QB. He looked pretty good to me. I read through this thread and what I found was a bunch of fans who have a ton of pride and love for their school. It was very humbling, tbh. So often us fans at bigger programs get caught up in the wins and loses and forget to love our school. Your Zips looked to be all class on the field last night, and your coach never quit doing his job. I wish the Zips nothing but success this season and I’ll be rooting for you to win every other game. Including the upset of the century at OSU! War Eagle and Go Zips from the Auburn family!

I think most D3 schools actually have logos. We look like a low budget high school. Even Bishop Sycamore had a logo.

You can root for the Zips, and still be realistic. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. Go Zips.

If that is how you feel, go to Walmart and buy an OSU hat and a Suckeyes shirt. Then, get in your crap colored car and make the drive down I-71 toward Columbus on Saturdays. Just stay the hell away from the Info on the corner of Union and Exchange. I want to enjoy the games with the true Zips fans, even though the numbers of attendees may be few. Akron may have one more low win season, but the young talent is on the verge of a major breakthrough in the not so distant future. And when that happens, I want to enjoy the transformation with those who stuck out the bad times. Fair weathered wussies will jump back on board, but I hope you are firmly implanted at the shoe. It pains me to say it and I hope to hell I am wrong but this is feeling like the leadup week to the UMass game 2 or 3 years back where we were looking at an weak opponent as an opportunity to start to turn things around and we know how that one turned out.
