  1. My search committee would consist of Hunter Yurachek. Former UA associate AD. He gets credit for outside the box thinking that has taken Costal Carolina to a Top 20 ranking. Not North Carolina…not South Carolina…not NC State…Costal Carolina. We need someone with a creative approach. Rehashing Paul Winters for the 28th time won’t work. Hiring a high school school coach won’t work. The right answer is out there, and Hunter probably has the experience and acumen to figure it out. Massive whiff by UA letting him get away when he wanted to be our AD.

  2. Travelling to NE Ohio today. From what I'm being told, the Buffalo family/fans will be at Panini's in Kent, starting at 3pm on Saturday before their game at 7pm. It would be great to see some of you if you can stop by. I know some of you personally and have come to appreciate many other in your support for the Zips and analysis of things related to college football. It was on this site that I learned to say "Can't State!" May try to go to the Brecksville game tonight. In Ames, Iowa, we absolutely love Mike Rose! P.S. I've been making trips to see in-laws in Akron/Stow for more than 30 years, but this will only be the second time that I've done it alone. The other was for the Iowa State tailgate.

  4. I thought I would give us a diversion from Zips football.

  5. Not a bad thing. It shows that at least one commit is being recruited by another big time school and this shows that for this person, Arth has finally recruited some talent.

  6. Being young is one thing. Being young, and bereft of talent is another. We went 0-12...1-5...and are staring 1-11 in the face this season. I can't see adding a year of experience to what we have have on the field today making any difference in 2022. If we are only young, and somehow these larvae are going to turn into butterflies next year, I don't see it. Our lines, and LB's are completely overmatched by the worst of the MAC this season. Why in the era of transfers would anyone even try the "build with Freshman" approach? I think we are young, plus woefully bare in talent. We need more Irons-like talent...like 10 more of him...before we're competitive in the MAC, let alone OOC.

  7. Kalle is very much the wild card for this team. We'll discover if the UCLA and Rutgers offers were real or make believe. I notice his weight is now listed as 225, while a year ago it was 180. 👀

  8. Steal Terry Bowden's Offensive Coordinator?? RichRod!

  9. Everybody is young on both sides of the Ball. I watched the OL and I would not talk down about walk-ons at any position. Robarge is the real deal in my mind. He is a beast out there knocking guys around like like rag dolls including his play at OSU. Did he and the other OL guys make mistakes? Of course, but everyone of them are a redshirt freshman or true freshman and are playing against upperclassmen for the most part. If we can keep this core group together, they will get better and more consistent and the same goes for the rest of the young players. We have to remember that most of Bowden's players left when he did, leaving a very young team.

  10. Bowling Green continues to provide free live streaming of the men's soccer matches. WE use to do the same thing. Too bad.

  11. Bring the fans and $500k, and we'll provide you with the prestigious honors of not only having Akron on your schedule, but the opportunity to play at The Info.

  12. I run into this all the time, even within my family. Akron is a place to get your education, which isn't always highly regarded. When I attended there the number of students wearing OSU gear was incredible. Even the staff would talk about Bucknuts football. Putting the stadium on campus didn't cause a blip. They may be lifelong fans of their alma mater high school, but not the college they chose.

  13. Good post. NE Ohio is a culture of apathy. It's a great place to live and all people do is complain about it. I don't understand why. The State of Ohio does not do a good job of framing the MAC schools as valuable parts of the communities they are located. Athletics could be an important part of it. As a whole, the citizens of Ohio are not viewing these schools as the tremendous value they are because they are not made aware of the great things these schools do for their communities. It's a real shame and opportunity. The State should promote these schools better.

  15. The number I believe Larry Williams stated previously was $10 million. 4.5 million of which was the cost of the stadium. That means the football program costs ~5.5 million on an operational standpoint. In addition to the 3.6 million we received in guarantees, we receive another 800k as part of our TV deal. We receive another million or so from the CFP distribution. Add in ticket, parking, sponsorship, etc. and football makes enough to cover itself on the operations side. It bleeds money on the stadium, but we are stuck paying that regardless.

  16. I mean...it D-1 Sports is about "Exposure" and all that other bullshit that people blabber on about, isn't the schools on your "do not schedule" list actually the ones you'd want to play? We should schedule OSU as often as they'll allow us TBH. At the very least it gives more eyeballs within the state to Akron, and give the poor current students at Akron something to take pride in that OSU is playing their team?

  17. When the season started I said to myself "Okay, we can probably beat BG, they are worse than us". Now, after their win against Minnesota and all of their losses being extremely close games, along with the fact Akron can't keep a lead to save their life......yeah, not feeling too good, fellas.

  18. I haven't been on this board for 5 years with an old account, but I think it is time for the Zips to get the right man at the helm and get our program back and going. I won't get into what I do much, but I am a media member and I pride myself in knowing names of individuals that are likely to move in the coaching carousel. Besides that, I am an Akron fan first. One name that I am intrigued by is Matt Brock, special teams coordinator at Mississippi State and outside linebackers coach. I was once a special teams coach, and the fact that he coaches a position in addition to special teams is an absurd time commitment. He is one of the most respected names of coaches that I have heard of under 35 years old. He was the teams coordinator at Bowling Green a few years back and is familiar with the MAC and Akron from what I am told. He is also noted in many articles that sort of discuss what I am saying. Here is just one example. https://www.newsbreak.com/news/2355473370904/names-to-know-the-ultimate-cheat-sheet-for-the-2021-coaching-carousel

  19. (Akron football) should re-enter the OAC.It would make for a good fit the conference headquarters are in summit county. The opposing schools are close and Tom Arthritis and his DC wouldn’t be so overwhelmed. It could save a cash strapped institution a lot of money you know.

  20. An All-MAC player who decided to transfer here to not be a starter would be quite the surprise.........I'd bet a lot against it.

  22. Just an update. Kostelac vs. U of A in the Ohio Court of Claims concluded in July with the University being awarded summary judgment on Kostelac's claims. Essentially, the Court found that the University did not breach its duty of reasonable care to protect Kostelac from an unreasonable risk of physical harm of which it knew or had reason to know, because Gueye's criminal act of assaulting Kostelac was unforeseeable.

  23. This doesn’t make sense.. Iowa state is a solid FBS Program. And in the same year we beat Northwestern

  24. Because losing to FBS Iowa State was so much fun?

  25. Isn't there a market dimension to this? Don't the blue bloods tend to pay more for their buy-games? So, the question may be, how much money are you willing to leave on the table to avoid playing someone. And is that fiscally responsible?

  26. This might be Arth's biggest failure, yet. Has he ever addressed this? Akron may be the only place where a coach won't get fired with three straight years of losing, badly.

  27. ESPN 3. Why I don't know. But you have to have a TV package with ESPN to stream. Apparently your ESPN + money isn't good enough.
