Arth is a nice guy. A good person. He has been hired to coach. He is a bad coach. He can't recruit. He doesn't work the transfer portal Like Tucker did at Michigan State. He does not improve his team over the course of a season. He hires poor assistants. He has had a thorough evaluation at Akron and it is time to end the contract, stop the bleeding and get someone in who can produce. I hope Guthrie makes the change ASAP even if that means we are rudderless against Kent.7 points

Congratulations. The previous record for the farthest anyone has made it into an Arth/Thomas post-game presser was 6:57.5 points

Big one. If they win they are in the MAC tourney no matter what else happens.3 points

Unless Guthrie has a guy he is 110% certain to turn this program around on consistent basis into the future, firing Arth this season isn’t a good move for him IMO. Giving Arth the chance to make real progress in the year he had the highest chance to all along is like having a free bet. If it doesn’t work, he fires him and hires his guy. If it does work, well he gets credit for patience. Why not give yourself two chances to have success rather than one (which is all he would get if/once he fires Arth)?2 points

That may actually have been the best game they played all season. Had a chance at the end to beat a good team. You can almost see Gibson's eyes getting bigger as that huge lane opened up and he saw the end zone. The fumble was costly. But its hard for me to fault a player for making an extra effort in that situation. Besides there were things that happened earlier in the game that were just as costly. Let Gibson play. Then hope whomever is the next coach Arth or a yet to be determined he can convince Gibson to hang around.2 points

Does our performance and near-miss -v- Ball State save Arth's job? That was the progress I've been waiting to see. We hung right in there with a top MAC school. (Though I suppose we also did that with Miami a couple years back...) This team really plays hard for these coaches. I would have figured they would have lost the locker room a while ago. But no, this team still gives them absolutely everything they've got. I respect & admire that from both sides - team and coaches.2 points

That's a shame. They have heart, and aren't mailing anything in. Which only counts for so much.. but at this point you'd worry about the staff losing the locker room which doesn't seem to be the case with that effort. Just feel bad for the kids and especially Gibson, gave em hell2 points

Especially with these games now prime time during the week it is an embarrassment to the University. There is Nothing positive about this program unfortunately even with close games. That 3-24 record is a Permanent Cancer We continue to be a national embarrassment and point spread Mecca1 point

Yeah, that was the biggest takeaway from MTSU and WKU joining MAC. The good - we can now find a way to get into the big dance in hoops without depending on winning the tournament with 14 teams now, and those two programs are solid. The bad - No men’s soccer, either of them. MAC has to start prioritizing it, as men’s soccer is probably the only shot of bringing home natty’s for the conference.1 point

Had Gibson not fumbled or Akron recovered the fumble and won, it shouldn't change how Arth is evaluated. They had one quarter of stellar football. A turnover by the QB cost Michigan their game. That stuff happens and thank god it wasn't in the MAC championship game or to become bowl eligible. I mentioned a while back that Bowden was able to pull out a few wins here and there to keep his contract alive. I think Bowden was able to win the MAC East at the end of his contract only to get pummeled by Toledo and then FIU and then get a renewal(if I remember correctly. It's all a blur). So to 94zipgrad's point, our hopes are up but last night shouldn't (who am I to say?) change the overall evaluation of Arth. It's nice that 9 games in the Zips finally have a QB and like in basketball they own the BG Falcons.1 point

Calling that a hit is a gross exageration. I agree with the annoucer if the kicker is that stupid it should be 30 yards.1 point

Kicker needs to start running stairs RIGHT now and we'll let him know when he can stop.1 point

Zips score a touchdown and 2 point conversion. They are only down by 3. This is the best they have looked on offense all year. Can they finish?1 point

No grandson plays on that team. I use the name Grandma Football because I have 9 grandchildren. Akron is near where I used to live.1 point

The same coaches who are likely the only ones to give your grandson an opportunity to play D1 ball, right?1 point

I had it once before on a free trial. Now it wants $65 to reinstate my subscription. Not paying that to watch a Zips game unless the coaches go home at halftime.1 point

I watching this on TV and even the commentators who are neutral could not understand the spot. He caught the ball at the 34 and got pushed backwards. They spotted the ball at the 34 and a half. There is no reason that the spot was not reversed on review. The Zips are just not good enough to overcome bad breaks.1 point

I think the MAC is looking at all of the movement of schools into other conferences and the gobbling up of schools by competing conferences and thinks that there's safety in numbers. Competitively, MTSU basketball has fallen off of the face of the earth and football is pretty average. MTSU was a very good mid-major in basketball for a good stretch under Kermit Davis but the program has completely fallen apart since he left for Ole Miss. Western Kentucky has had some nice basketball teams and has been pretty average in football. Western would give the MAC two teams in towns named Bowling Green.1 point
