I really hope the next coach sees the value in keeping a leader like Coach Rod in Ziptown. Otherwise, I wish him much fortune and will try to follow his journey. ❤4 points

A rather standard bantor response would be something like this Iowa State fan coming to an Akron fan site is the ultimate evidence that there is nothing to do in Iowa! We get this one often when we travel so well for road games and bowl games. Again, "nothing to do in Iowa," might as well travel. It's not true, but it's funny. And we can handle it.3 points

For those (like me) that can't make it, the game will be on ESPN Plus.2 points

He was upset he didn't play more and didn't believe the staff when they said this was the year he would contribute. I was bummed, he could have been a really good player in this program. He transferred down and is gonna play more and be happier, I wish him well.2 points

Well stated. I really like him. I'm not sure he is a D1 FBS head football coach but he seems like a hell of a guy and a great influence on the kids.2 points

The human in me feels for him struggling to start the season after losing his dad not too long ago. The Akron fan in me is watching Enfield(?) take his #25 ranked USC Trojans back to his roots at Florida Gulf Coast for an away game, while Duquesne has yet to show up on an Akron schedule. I repeat my post above: thank goodness we have Groce. Side note: didn't realize TVD (Dunn-Martin) ended up at FGCU. Good for him.2 points

If you don't like what he has to say, you can mute him that way what he says doesn't pop up when you scroll through. Also, it was friendly banter. If I actually cared enough about that comment to do a playful rebuttal, I'd just comment something about Iowa being nothing but cornfields and tractors2 points

Wow, what a really crappy thing to say. I did not grow up in NE Ohio, but I went to the University of Akron and now I live north of Akron about 45 minutes. I live in a beautiful town in NE Ohio with great schools and kind and generous people. I have had multiple opportunities to move and have chosen to stay where I am at. I have tried to support outside views on this forum (except OSU Suckeyes), but you have gone overboard. You are truly an @$$hole who has added nothing to this board but complete ignorance. Please, stay the f away with your ignorant comments. Personally, I am glad you moved your wife out of NE Ohio. I do not want anyone in Ohio who would be stupid enough to be with you. I will continue to love and support the University of Akron and Northeast Ohio. God Bless!!!2 points

Please don't reference Ohio State or the Buckeyes. It's a trigger for bigjim.1 point

I don't know, but this opening game seems somewhat similar to 2017 when Akron -- then ranked #3 played #22 Seattle of the WAC in what must have been round 2, as we had a first round bye. We defeated the Redhawks 3-0. This team has a much lower floor than that College Cup semi-finalist team. The MAC season showed we must be prepared for every opponent. However, I feel this team is capable of beating anyone in the tournament if they play up to their potential. First round prediction: Akron 3 SCU 1.1 point

Based on way too many years experience with college age kids, I can attest that you are over estimating the degree of sophistication possessed by them these days (unless you equate driving and texting with sophistication).1 point

Kentucky is one of a handful of teams with an excellent chance to take the cup. That are all that. But first things first. Fans should not look past Santa Clara. If coaches and players look past any opponent, especially in a single elimination tournament, well then, those fools deserve what they get.1 point

I really appreciate his pressers. Good stuff! Very insightful and zero coach-speak. GT: "Is Gibson going to be starting?" Coach: "Yes." Love his comment about the fact that Kent's D is likely going to struggle no matter who the DC is due to the way they play offense (D's gonna get tired). We witnessed that with Bowden in his first year. Liked his analogy of the Mexican boxing match. Lol. And when GT asked about the current situation... Coach: "I've had cancer twice. This is nothing." GT: "How are the players doing..." Coach: "They're young & many don't have the life experience to know how to handle this properly. That's not their fault. I'm working to show them how men handle their business." All paraphrases, of course. Great stuff, Coach Rodriguez!1 point

Kentucky is not 14-4 Kentucky has only lost one game they are 14-1...and have 4 ties....have wins over ACC powers Notre Dame and Louisville and a tie with Marshall and let's worry...about Santa Clara right now Santa Clara beat Portland 3-1....just a few days removed from Portland hammering MAC champ Northern Ilinois 4-0 I like the zips to take care of business at First Energy stadium...but this team needs to focus....on Santa Clara 110% right now1 point

Neither is happening. NCAA aims for around 20% of teams to make the tournament in each sport. 20% of 208 is 41.6, so 48 already exceeds the baseline number. (For comparison, in basketball, 20% of 350 is 70, and there is a 68 team tournament.) On the other hand, NCAA rules mandate at least as many at-large teams as conference champs. There are currently 23 confereneces in DI mens soccer, so 46 is the minimum number of teams in the tournament.1 point
