  1. Looks like an interior OL from Penn State. Hell yes! Edit: Looks like he played on interior at PSU, but was maybe recruited as a tackle. At the very least seems versatile. Was also a 4 star recruit to Penn St.

  2. Add OL Anthony Whigan to the committed list. Edit - He entered in January, but his commitment bumped his activity to today. Either way, great pickup!

  3. I agree that offense in college basketball seems to be about guards and athleticism first and foremost.... but you can’t tell me that having a rim protector like a Zeke Marshall doesn’t alter as many shots as anything else in the game. I want an athletic true 5. I was excited about the development of Aziz and bummed that he is gone. The sport was still rather new to him and his development curve was likely to be faster than others plus I thought he already was showing signs of being pretty good down the road.

  4. In years past they've (sometimes?) had a Spring Game radio broadcast. I think they dropped that since Arth never had an actual scrimmage Spring Game. I don't exactly remember; that's been a while ago now. You'd think it'd be awfully simple to just stick a student in the press box & stream it on YouTube.

  5. Some brutally honest quotes from DL coach Winston DeLattibourdere about how deficiently coached he thought our DL was last season.

  6. https://www.mlsnextpro.com/news/mnufc2-knocks-off-undefeated-city2-in-stunning-4-0-road-victory Cameron Knowles ... Anyone remember him? How about Diogo Pacheco? ...MNUFC2 head coach Cameron Knowles praised his attacking core for their performance on the night, while adding that it was a full team effort from the back to the front. ... Diogo Pacheco Midfielder · MNUFC2 Pacheco’s performance caught the eye of viewers both on screen and in-stadium, with Knowles praising the winger for his “determination” and “fight” to win his battles on the pitch tonight. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Pacheco is a collegiate product out of Akron University where over three seasons he scored 10 goals and notched 4 assists in 34 appearances. 2022 is his first year with the Minnesota United organization, where he was signed to an MLS NEXT Pro contract on March 23rd. In his first start of the season, Pacheco took advantage of the opportunity presented to him and put on a passing clinic. His first of three assists to Justin McMaster may have been the cleanest. 10. What a massive pickup! He’s an athlete playing on the OL and can play anywhere on the OL. He’ll have 1 year of eligibility left. It all starts up front and the Zips are going to surprise a lot of people this year.

  11. Hell of a pickup, rated the #1 player in MD in 2018. Projected second round pick comparable to mitchell swartz per 247

  12. The former Nittany Lion appeared in 21 games over his career. After playing in every game of the 2020 season, Whigan was relegated to a smaller role and saw the field in 10 out of 13 possible games. Most of Whigan’s snaps came in a special teams capacity. Whigan committed to Penn State in August 2018 as a four-star recruit. He joined the team as a junior college transfer from Lackawanna College, which has been a hotbed of recruiting for the Nittany Lions in recent years. At the time of his recruitment, Whigan was the seventh-ranked junior college prospect in the country. The departure of another offensive linemen comes at a fragile time for Penn State football. Depth issues for the offensive line have been well documented this offseason, even prompting a format change for the 2022 Blue-White Game.

  13. I think Groce has proven to us that he will adjust to what he has on the roster. He doesn't have a position based system; he adjusts the system to the talent he has. The reality is that mid-majors do not generally get top notch big men. As a result, Groce's teams and the MAC in general have been guard driven. In the end, Groce is going to bring in the best talent he can, whether it's a 5'7" transfer guard or a 7 foot African post player and adapt the system to the roster.

  14. Aziz never would have been able to share the court with Freeman. That means at best he would have been playing ~10min/game until he was a senior. Him transferring was likely the best for both parties. He can transfer somewhere that he has a chance of earning minutes to develop. Akron was able to use his scholarship to bring in someone like Hunter who on paper is a better fit and provides some lineup diversitility.

  15. There have been multiple comments from this staff implying that the previous coaching staff did a poor job or had the players inefficiently conditioned. Can’t really argue that if solely going off the team stats or overall record, but not everything done by the previous staff was poor. I hope this staff - and I think they will - backs up this talk with excellent play in the field. I was going to adjust my thoughts accordingly on a 4 man front scheme, but this is the second article I’ve seen mention a “multiple” front, so I guess I’ll wait and see. Sounds like they still don’t know for sure and are letting what the players do best dictate what will be ran.

  16. Agreed. It seems like every video clip that’s been produced has Wiley in there somewhere. From all the reactions on twitter and the types of recruits that are visiting, it’s clear that Moorhead has something brewing. I’m trying to find a way to make it to the SG, but I don’t know if it’ll happen. I sent a message to the official twitter account if the game would be televised or streamed by the school, but haven’t received a response. I’m going to email someone in the athletics department the same question. If smaller DII schools can stream games, it would seem like Akron would as well.

  17. I've heard/read Cam Wiley's name a handful of times now (articles, videos). There seems to be a little buzz about him. Saturday it'll be interesting to see if he lines up as our #1 RB.

  19. Wonder why you think this is a real possibility? I know his father passed & his little brother plays at Hoban but I don’t know. Those things can change a person but I always got the feeling the family always thought they was better than Akron. Maybe he wants to be closer for his mom. We have a big TE room but he would be a good addition

  21. It was not unusual in the more distant past that the player had to at least pretend that he was doing something to receive money. Back in the 70s an Akron area player who I knew got a basketball scholarship from Kentucky. A booster there gave him a summer job paying $20 (that's 1970 (not 2022 dollars) per hour to watch horses. Seemed like a pretty sweet deal at the time, but adjusted for inflation I believe it falls a little short of the equivalent of a car and $400,000 per year.

  22. Kylon Wilson was on campus. I’m not sure if we’ve offered, but I suspect we will. HS highlights are below. He’s a smaller player, but he’s a playmaker.. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12905534/61adce44ab920a0830969d0d Jean Louis III was also on campus. No offered listed yet, but one is probably coming. HS highlights are below. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/14439802/6151a9e9479826088cc6e276 Darius Whiteside II was on campus last week and has an Akron offer. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12842167/618fee97b3c87201448e9ac9 Michael Kilbane was also on campus last week and has an offer, but we have some serious competition. He already has 11 Power 5 offers and 22 total according to Rivals. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13111868/61744021386df7012c82faab Jake Cook was also in, who we’ve offered, but he’s a rising sophomore. If I were a betting man I’d bet he will see some Power 5 offers soon. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/16071032/617d9518041e480cacf231c2 Marcus Moore Jr was on campus with some teammates. He has an Akron offer. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/15582505/61375f08e97ac2057491415e Andrew Marshall was also on campus. He has an Akron offer. Listed as WR and OLB, but he’ll be a linebacker. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/12911769/61a54636f5600308e4ba437b

  23. I think we will see Hunter some on the court with Freeman, but I expect Hunter will see a good chunk of his minutes as Freeman's backup. IMO that role is filled. A stretch 4 is often just an oversized wing so I don't think there is much of a difference between the two. That's what Ali was. That's what Xeyrius was.

  24. What we need is a 6'10" guy that is a slasher with a great shot that can play in the post or outside that handles the ball like a guard. 😁 Any other questions?

  25. When they do, you can bank on him having either - A.) Knocked off a liquor store B.) Scored a 4 on his SAT C.) Possessed a 450 lb bench press, and the bone density of Betty White D.) Been grossly over-starred Note - Multiple correct answers are possible.

  26. Maybe this has been going on forever.. although 800k seems like a lot. I wonder how teammates feel when he drives up to practice in a Mercedes and wearing a Rolex while they don't have those same deals? Or would all the players make that much?
