  1. A few takeaways: - Joe mentions how well Jones has played. - He also spoke about Lewis and how well he’s played at the Nickel spot. Includes that’s the way they want to build with homegrown talent. - Said Boateng had a much better game than in Week 1. - Joe again brought up McCoy and how he thinks he will be a star here. - Said Whigan again graded out as the top OL and that Banes had a solid game. Joe thinks Williams may be the most physical lineman. - Joe said that Tennessee has a bigger OL than MSU. A few things I noticed from the highlights: - Cam Threatt looked good again the second time around against MSU’s backups. - Thomas was firing off the ball quickly against MSU’s backup OL. - Robinson is a big dude, but was often slow firing off the ball. - Regarding Boateng - what I like about him is the way he hits and tackles. Now if he can improve on reading his keys, getting off blocks, and the other minutiae of the LB position, we’ll really have something. Until then, I imagine he will continue to back up Terry.

  2. The only newcomers who will see any significant minutes are Hunter and Hankerson. The 2 bigs are both pretty raw but will be usefull on the practice court. Between Johnson and Mitchell I would wager Johnson has the best chance of seeing the court. Our freshman PG will need to hit the weights hard this season to get stronger. Prather is the only freshman who could see some PT. Strictly my opinion of course.

  3. 74 caps. Our Zip alum DeAndre Yedlin is the veteran of this squad. 👏👏👏 Acosta and Pulisic are next with 52 and 51, respectively.

  4. Great gesture by the staff and I'm glad someone still appreciates hand-written notes nowadays, unlike Brian Kelly.

  6. Edited as I found the tweet. Once these things pick up speed they can move in a hurry.

  7. MSU would've been on upset alert until the middle of the 3Q in my opinion. We would've found the endzone eventually, and the Irons injury sapped all the energy from the team. With Irons only a Junior and the kid from Oklahoma coming in, I would love to see what Jennings can offer. Not sure Tennessee is the game to do it in, but ce la vie.

  8. On a side note, the SEC reportedly told UGA and Tennessee to cancel their home and home series with Texas and Oklahoma. I take that to mean Texas and Oklahoma will most likely be SEC members by the 2023 season.

  9. The year the Zips beat Pitt, we were 5-7. The year we beat Northwestern, we were 4-8. The year we beat NC State we were 5-6. The year we battled Michigan to the final gun we were 5-7. The year we lost to Virginia Tech 21-18, we were 4-7. I recall a terrible Greg Gromek-led Zips team went into the locker room knotted 7-7 at Illinois once. So why can't the 2022 Zips play Tennessee tight this weekend? I hope we can string together some first downs, and Undercuffler channels his "inner Dalton Williams". And, the defense continues to improve. Then, maybe we have a shot to keep it close. The Zips seem to show up and play a great marquee game when it seems completely improbable. Here's hoping some Zips players catch lightning in a bottle this Saturday and, if not shock the world, at least give it a respect-worthy kick in the nuts.

  10. From Jon Rothstein's article on the 10 Mid-Majors to Watch Akron: John Groce lost his top scorer — Ali Ali (Butler) — from last season’s team that nearly beat UCLA in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but there’s still more than enough left over for the Zips to make a return trip in 2023. Akron’s two best players against the Bruins — Xavier Castaneda (13.6 points) and Enrique Freeman (13.2 points, 10.8 rebounds) — are back and so are juniors Greg Tribble and Mikal Dawson, who both started against UCLA. Northern Illinois transfer Trendon Hankerson (11.4 points) and Ole Miss transfer Sammy Hunter should both play key roles as newcomers. The MAC is as competitive of a mid-major league as there is in the country, but Groce has enough to get back to the NCAA Tournament next March.

  12. @Sergeant Zip you've kept ZipsNation updated on the comings and goings of Zips in the NFL for many many years. I just wanted to extend my thanks for doing it. It is much appreciated!

  13. According to the University of Akron's Facebook page: In the TV series "The College Tour" - each episode focuses on a different college and presents its narrative through the eyes of its students. This episode shines a nice light on UA and the city of Akron. The College Tour episode about The University of Akron is available here...
