  1. Ohio is one of the team’s I’ve watched the least of this year in the MAC. With that said, they are certainly better and more dangerous than the record suggests. Dwight Wilson is back and he’s like Big Dog if he had more muscle. He’s a load. And he’s a hell of a player. They beat WMU at home on Tuesday, and he was electric against an opponent that Freeman struggled with. The Zips will need to show much more effort on the defensive end and on the boards. The effort they put up against Miami will not win many MAC games. The Bobcats have nice pieces all over the floor. And they’re pretty long and athletic. I’d like to see the Zips control the pace and get back to their game on defense. The open looks have been plentiful, they just will not fall with consistency. Keep the defense at the level it needs to be, and you’ll always have a chance. Go Zips!

  3. Same here. I guess we are awaiting Cleveland, and with NIU's win the other night and Carry taking an early victory lap maybe all the fan bases in the top half are wondering what will happen in March.

  4. And with no fanfare it seems Nyeem Wartman is officially the DL coach.

  5. Agreed, and if you consider who the Liberty, Miss State, & Jackson State offers were initially from (RIP Coach Leach), there's an obvious talent with this kid. Side note - what an absolutely 💩 situation for Paul. 3 of your best offers have coaching changes because 2 were hired elsewhere and a third passed away. No idea what happened with Duke.

  6. I feel really bad when the women are the second game, especially if the men’s game is a wild and loud game. Then as the women are warming up, the atmosphere leaves as the people leave. It’s too bad, it’s Akron athletics and if you’ve got time to kill it’s a fun time.

  8. I've done the doubleheader thing numerous times and it is a long day, especially when there is more than a half hour between games as is likely Saturday with 2pm and 5pm scheduled tips. I think there is a better chance of exposure/attendance for the women's game if it is first. That way fans may get there a little early before the men's game to see the excitement of the women's second half.

  9. You should have heard them at breakfast on roadgames.

  10. I like this snapshot in time. I think this is after X made a 3 to go up 5 with 53 secs left. Everyone looks happy but Groce. I was still nervous as well.

  11. Nobody in our fan base knows what to expect game to game. Our one consistency has been inconsistency, basically. Wilson has been solid in the post but the surrounding cast has been wildly hit or miss. Boals is playing a lot of guys minutes, going deeper in the bench than the team has gone the past few years. Road play has not been great, so for me, I'm hoping for a competitive game but know it could go in literally any direction possible and it wouldn't be all that surprising.

  12. Some of my favorite memories of UA basketball were simply driving home and listening to him on the post game with Frenchy and Joe Dunn, preferably after wins of course. I could listen to an archive of those all day long. They had some real chemistry.

  13. I actually think most people are pretty fair on Charles In Charge. He's done a lot of good at UA and has also made a few questionable decisions. His intentions can seem kind of questionable as well sometimes. And he's quite arrogant, which can rub people the wrong way, but isn't always a bad thing in this industry. There was a mini meltdown on ZN when he was hired. He had never made a football hire, or even really worked where a school had big time football. And whether his own doing or not, Joe Moorhead is the head coach of Akron football. And John Groce was just extended in a very school-friendly contract. The JAR is starting to look a little better, though that will always be an uphill battle. There is now a clear brand, which is actually quite important. And basketball, who has been a top program in the league for 20 years, is finally getting a practice facility. He's a little out there, no doubt. But he's got quite the vision for UA and it's great to see an AD so out in front on things. People were pretty shocked at his personality when he started--and many still are--but I would take this guy over Williams & Wistercill 10/10 times. Is he the perfect AD for Akron? I don't know. Who is a perfect AD for Akron? What could he have done differently so far to be considered better? Be careful what you wish for.

  14. Give us a little more credit than that. Charles can have a checkered past success wise while still having great success at and being good for Akron. He's been the AD for ~2 years correct? Soccer is now in the Big East, JoeMo is the football HC, and he extended Groce. He is also adding sports to the athletic department, and focused on building a competitive baseball program as collegiate baseball becomes more prominent. Overall, IMO, there is more excitement and optimism for Zips athletics now than when he started. Bill Belichick needed a sub par Browns tenure to obtain the growth necessary to reach the levels of success that he has.

  15. Unfortunately I will be cruising around the Caribbean Saturday so I won't be able to make it to the game. I have four seats(lower level row 2 accross from the bench), 4 Tommy Evans lounge passes(includes a free buffet) and a lot 2 parking pass. If somebody wants them send me a PM. All I ask is you don't emabarrass me and with your presence make the Zips lose.

  16. I laughed a little when I saw this sentence. I wonder how many times over the years an Akron fan has said/posted this or something similar after an Akron vs Miami game.

  17. Something definitely happened. He appointed Milwe as OC & just sort of seemed to mail it in from there on out. He's currently the HC at FBS UL-M (University of Louisiana - Monroe).
